    I like to grow my own shrimp food. I basically neglect the growth of my duckweed. I harvest it every few months. I get as much as I can Into a blender along with one egg white and egg shell. A tablespoon of spirulina powder and I blend all that into a thick smoothy. Then I just pour it all on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and dry it all out in the oven on the lowest setting. The shrimp all go crazy for it. Sure it floats for a day or so but my tanks are shrimp only with the exception of ramshorn snails. Not much competition for food.

    Very true and agree with all your points in the video. Shrimp do not eat algae but act as a way to prevent it. Like eating away the root cause 😅. Also they help the ecosystem by cleaning up the fish eggs as well so they are fungus and bacteria free had them in an Ember Tetra tank and now n then Ember babies would pop up😄

    I had a tank go nuts with algae because it got too much direct sunlight. I bought 4 adult size cherry shrimp and with 3 days every single leaf, stem, wood, rock, everything was clear of algae. So yeah, if it is that short green hair algae they love to eat that.

    How can I feed the shrimp when my guppies and gourami compete for the food? They always manage to sniff it out! I've tried turning a small aqua plant basket upside down to create a sort of cage, but the guppies can still get into the food.

    • @FishKeepingAnswers

      If targeting feeding the RCS is proving difficult, I would try feeding the shrimp after the lights go out. I don’t mean the moment the light switches off, but when the room becomes dark at the end of the day. I have one tank that I have to feed once the fish room goes into totally darkness. 🦐

    I have 6 Cherry Shrimp in a planted 10gl tank for about 2 weeks. So far they ignore any type of shrimp food that I have dropped into a feeding dish. Is that because there is enough biofilm for them to consume?

    • @FishKeepingAnswers
      @FishKeepingAnswers  Рік тому +2

      Whether or not there is sufficient biofilm will very much depend how long the tank has been running before adding the shrimp. If you have fish in the tank, there is a good chance the shrimp are dining on uneaten fish food, fish poop and biofilm. Personally, I would scrap the feeding bowl and just let the food land where ever it ends up. The shrimp may not want to get into the feeding bowl to eat. I hope that helps. 🦐👍🏻

    • @FishKeepingAnswers
      @FishKeepingAnswers  Рік тому +2

      Hi, thanks for taking the time to watch the video. Personally, I would not worry too much about feeding the baby shrimps directly unless you have removed them from the main tank and added them to their own tank (which isn’t something I ever bother to do). Providing the tank they are in has been running for at least a few weeks, and you are feeding any other occupants of the tank, the shrimplets will find plenty to eat!
      I will check out your channel too. All the best. Richard.
