(fun fact) Greenland Ranch, California, with 134°F on July 10, 1913, holds the record for the highest temperature ever officially recorded in the United States, and THE WORLD.
With the Post-it notes you should do the same overlapping technique but instead of overlapping the paper sides overlap the glue side and glue each Post-It note together with its own stickiness and then see how much force it takes to pull that apart
Mythbusters was using a posterboard "cowl" for their phone books which helped the pages keep their shape. One potential suggestion is, rather than clamping the individual pads of post-it notes, drill a pair of holes a half inch to an inch from the glued edge and loop a couple of binder rings through those, then attach your string to that assembly. It's also acceptable to tape the top and bottom two sheets to each other to help the pads stay in compression.
Going into this video, I was curious yet dubious, but you guys actually did it! Y'all actually *pulled a car* with flipping *Post-It notes*! Color me impressed.
The side that held was facing the sun 🌞 Cold tape won't hold but if its allowed to warm up a bit it will hold up to 20%-75% stronger. The truck was painted black where the post-its were stuck on. Black absorbs heat .
In my mind's eye I'm seeing the neighbors peering out through the blinds in their windows... "Honey, they're at it again... Should I call the cops?" LOL
The reason the sticky notes pulled apart when that used the tape and rope is because the pressure that you apply when squeeze the sticky notes is what causes the sticky note stack to stay together while that same pressure is not applied when using the rope and tape
Try to start in neutral next time when towning. Starting in neutral will give you a gentle steady pull to get the car moving. Before you shift to drive while the wheels are moving
Guinness records is a scam. They ask people to pay to break records, then often ignore them or refuse to verify them unless they cough up enough bucks. And if you cough up emore, you just get to make a record of your own.
I feel like in the phone book example, on top of the obvious frictional forces, there are vacuum forces at work between the pages as well. For some reason I think that if the phone book were slowly pulled apart, rather than in a sudden burst, this would give the air enough time to slip into the cracks. I think the fine, thin paper helps a lot in the test as well. As you turn pages in a phone book, they almost seem like they are statically attracted to each other, and as one page falls from spine to edge onto another, I think this and the nature of the paper (such as surface texture) effectively eliminates air on it's own. I just never see Post-it Notes behave that way. In fact, they usually end of fraying out if you toss them into a bookbag, and seem to return to form in the same way a spring does. And if I'm correct, the "vacuums" between the pages would degrade over time as air creeped in. Though I think if you had a decent vice, clamp, or press it would be able to "touch-up" the vacuums, perhaps even stronger than before. And this would also explain the drill breaking the "friction" nicely.
I love how hott Grace is and how little she seems to care about embarrassing shots like when the put the black light on her and showed her crazy make up splotches. She definitely seems like an all around fun person to hang around with especially since she can likely still tumble which is always awesome and I bet she can do top gun which I usta compete in and miss having a friend to do top gun with.
I love the whole TKOR team (both og and newer) but this video made me really feel like grace has always just been a part of the team. She brings a lot of fun energy to each video and does lots of cool little things to illustrate the "busy work" part of the experiment process. TKOR has been a big influence for having Science themed Fun but I think the new team members are also helping me remember why I got into the Fun of Science too. And of course, as someone about the same age I approve of the spongebob reference 😂
To even out the tension on them all you could use springs. Have a double ended post it string with a single string going from one side of the vehicle to the other, with a spring in the middle attaching it to the towing car, so that the string can slide to equal out any sideways unevenness, and the spring can take out any unevenness between the different strings. This would also ensure that the uptake of slack is a gradual rather than snatchy when starting to tow. Does that make sense?
the different of phone book and post-it note are the paper size, material and thickness. phone book paper is thin and soft but post-it note paper is thick and hard. thick and hard paper tend to not stick to each other much. so you'll need hvs paper.
The reason the phone books worked and the Post-Its didn't is surface to mass ratio. If the Post-Its were much larger (say 25cm x 25cm instead of 7.5 x 7.5) and/or much thinner (like 0.01 mm rather than the appx. 0.15 mm they are), then you'd have something.

You should be able to redo the MythBusters trick. If you can find a way to basically C-Clamp the post it notes instead of drilling a hole through them, but also without compromising the experiment by adding "support" to the notes. I'd suggest a design similar to the clips you'd put on bag of chips, but I have yet to fully think it through. Hope you revisit this and try again!
