    Thanks for these, been so helpful w work on my ‘81. About the only thing you didn’t have issues with that I did was my flasher relay no longer blinked- simple repair- opened the relay and the metal contact had warped over the years so it no longer touched the contact when juiced up. Bent the contact a bit w pliers and good to go!

    hi just a little tip for you you can take off the seat and then after taking off the seat you'll see the gas tank and once you take the gas tank off it's just a couple of screws and then you see the negative Slide the battery through there and it's a lot easier to connect the wires for me. but I am working on the same bike you are

    no problem I'm working on the same bike you are but the bike is for me and I am taking all the Chrome in pieces off so I can repaint it its original color so we're doing a full restauration on it it's been lots of fun I've also been wet sanding the bike.

      +Adam Smith Wow, that sounds like a much more comprehensive job than I'm doing. This and another bike belong to a neighbor who asked if I would try to get the bikes running again. I'm happy to help out and have learned a lot.. especially that Honda electrics are significantly better than Lucas, which is what I'm used to ;) It's just a great bike. No wonder they have made millions!

    I’m helping a friend rebuild one of these and his battery wires were corroded but I’m not very bright when it comes to electrics. What gauge should be used for this?

    Mi Ty what kind of "battery tender" did you use? I have a 12 volt charger that can be used at 2 amps as a trickle charge. Would I be risking burning out bulbs being that the 1982 is a 6 volt? Thanks

    • @TheMightyGarage
      @TheMightyGarage  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Rallen, I wouldn't recommend using a 12v charger on a 6v system. I use the Deltran trickle chargers but my friends use very inexpensive chargers and they seem to work just fine. Good luck!

    Hi, can you tell me if theres a difference in legshields between a c70 and a plaggy as ive never heard the word "Plaggy" before but it seems to be related to the c90, theres a legshield for sale on Ebay described as a plaggy and im unsure if it will fit my c70 passport, my rewire starts today ;)

    • @TheMightyGarage
      @TheMightyGarage  6 років тому

      Hi Jeff, sorry but I don't know what the Plaggy reference is. It sounds like perhaps a particular model? I googled it and there were several references, so it may have been a model with some special features. Good luck with the rewiring! Cheers, Mike

    Hi. Thanks for posting these videos. They help al or as I have an 81 red c70 too. What was the secret to extracting the turn signal wires from the signal itself? I'm holding the signal and cable in hand but don't see how to remove the plate and spring.

    Is this one 6 volt? Your battery looks to be twice the size of mine! (1977 C90)

    Mi Ty I have a question about my turn signals -please. Rear right works 90% of the time but occasionally will not but then it "fixes" itself. I've looked at the socket and it seems to be a bit tweaked as the bulb is not totally secured. If I want to change the entire turn signal assembly do I have to remove the brake light bracket etc to be able to change the turn signal out completely or can I splice it near the stem end. Thanks! After re watching I think I have my answer but I still hope to hear from you. Cheers

    My ‘81 c70 passport’s horn and signal lights , tail lights and headlight aren’t working. Any idea? Fuse ??!! 🤔

    • @TheMightyGarage
      @TheMightyGarage  6 років тому

      Hi Angelo. Yes possibly a blown fuse, or maybe blown bulb(s) or a wiring problem. I assume that they were working before and other electrical components are working okay (i.e. the battery is good).

    Thanks for the video. Helpful! Non bike question: What kind of video camera are you using? Great quality video.

    • @TheMightyGarage
      @TheMightyGarage  8 років тому

      +popptj Hi there. I'm actually just using my iPhone! It's a basic 5S model. I have a little inexpensive tripod with a phone clamp attachment to hold everything nice & steady. For some of the longer videos and ride videos, I use a GoPro Hero with a GoPro "Chesty" harness. Again, it's just the basic model with the simple push button on the front. It will capture about 4-hours of video. Cheers.

    quick question if you still respond to this video, my 81 seems to have all the necessary lights working when the ignition switch is on, neutral light and twilight, but i was told headlight and signals work off the engine strator and you have to have the engine running to have them on, this doesn't seem to be the case with yours... i don't get any power to the wires that control the headlight but it shares the same ground system as the tail light and that works. is something wrong in my wiring?

    • @TheMightyGarage
      @TheMightyGarage  6 років тому

      Dominic Cannistra Hi Dominic, here is a response from one of my friends who is terrific with electrical issues.. I am not very familiar with the C70. It seems to me that about 1981/1982 they switched from 6 volt to 12 volt electrics. This probably means that they also switched from an alternator powered headlight (only lit while engine runs) to a battery powered headlight that can be lit without the engine running. Perhaps he just has the earlier version.... Hope this helps, cheers Mike

      This also has me puzzled. I don't believe it is typical for the 6v bike headlight to come on under battery power alone.
