I am an audio engineer (an actual one, not some dude off of fiverr these rappers be hiring). I worked on radio around 20 years back and it was very easy even back then to set up the mixer to take telephone signal and return them the hosts microphone from the studio. Thats how we were able to have guests call in every morning. If it took them THIS LONG to to figure out that basic setup, there is no way they are making it sound anywhere NEAR studio quality. The telephone diaphragm simply DOES NOT produce anything lower than 800ish Hz and higher than 2500Hz like a real microphone can. Sure, you can somewhat remove the noise even though it will still be audible, but you cannot CREATE vocal frequencies that do not exist in the first place. You can recreate a voice with AI, but that is also audible.
800ish hz? That's quite tinny. Is that with a 6db filter? Imho 250hz-300hz sounds like the lowest most phone calls go. Other than that I agree with how it'll be difficult to restore missing frequency

I love instrumental music from Knxwledge, and sometimes he gets audio files from people over the phone and it sounds amazing. It’s a level of authenticity that the rap game on a superstar level hasn’t really entertained and I think this also would be interesting if it opens the door for silent artist and musicians in these penitentiaries to shine.
