- Despite last year’s intense focus, violence is still on the rise and few locals expect anything to change. CCTV does little to deter the gangs in search of cars to steal - including The Australian's Liam Mendes.
The Australian has reported before on children as young as 10 driving stolen cars through town. But these aren’t kids and there’s an air of menace about them.
Little more than a year ago, a national spotlight was placed on the town amid fly-in visits from Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton, but the intense focus was vanishingly brief and the town is again awash in grog.
No one is surprised to hear that Mr Albanese, Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney and Opposition Leader Mr Dutton, are all visiting again - and few expect anything to change.
Locals will continue to live in a state of constant hyper-vigilance.

The indigenous youth has watched tv and seen the riots and looting in the USA and South Africa ,no prospect of employment for them no example from their parents inadequate police force and disinterested persons in authority.
Bound to happen as no fear of weak punishment as well ,decades of handouts have done no good at all.

Local plumbers in AS, how do they continue to make a living and keep the doors open when their tools are gone and their ute is trashed. Albenese & ALP reportedly paid Indigenous 34 billion + last year with little to show for it with few checks or balances. Things need to change in Australia, whether the accused criminals being indigenous, white ,migrant young or old they needed to be treated with accountability firmness with court handling down an appropriate sentence that reflects community expectations handed down. Pigs might fly too I fear.
