Yes according to the Jain history account though according to the Buddhist history Bimbisar committed suicide. Actually killing of close relations including patricide and fratricide for seen very differently in the pre Buddhist era. Arjuna was involved in a war where he was called upon to kill his grandfather, Parashuram killed his mother and Sri Krishna his maternal uncle. The act of killing by a kshatriya, be it even his father for purposes of expanding kingdom or for righteous reasons was an acceptable thing. The standards of morality are very different now than in the heroic ages when conquests and battles and empire building were considered as normal. Ajatshatru had his defects stimulating creative plots for drama and film notably Amrapali which portrays his love for a courtesan which led him to conquer Vaishali and his eventual conversion to embrace Buddhism and become a monk. What is important however is that during his empire expansion he successfully kept away early attempts at invasion by the forces of Alexander.
