Sounds more musical overall, with firmer and more controlled bass, and above all with a pleasant neutrality in the mids/highs region. This is probably thanks to the 2 full range drivers, they are not classic tweeters. The Doss is more hifi, it has a flat response over the entire frequency spectrum (see Oluv's Gadget review), so it adds no coloration to your songs. The Anker wins under particular circumstances thanks to its 2 silk tweeters, for example with acoustic guitars (9:20 Anker vs. 10:17 Doss) and some female voices (5:36 Anker vs 6:28 Doss), it seems that the guitar and the singer are there, in your room, BUT when you listen to a full mix, when you add bass, drum, cymbals, piano, synth, the Anker becomes tiny and less natural overall. Try to listen to the first two songs: Doss winds hands down!! Can you hear how the female voice on the Anker (4:41) sounds a little bit strange, boxy and with a strange resonance? As if the singer is singing into a cardboard box... On the Doss (3:46) is way more natural. The Anker is not a bad speaker at all, but often sounds boxy compared to the Doss XL. Moreover, I see (13:07) you did a big EQing work on the Anker, you added a lot of bass. I wonder how it sounds without any EQ...◔̯◔ Advice: next time, instead of using maximum volume on both speakers, try to match the volumes. You can aid yourself with a phonometer smartphone app.
These are two of the best sub 100 dollar speakers to come out in the last couple years, and this is the only video in UA-cam comparing them. Thanks for making this video! It was super helpful. I prefer the Anker personally, it’s crisper and clearer sounding.
Thanks for a great review ! I've been searching for a comparison review of both speakers since I have the Doss XL right now and looking at buying the motion + as well, but unsure if it exceeds the Doss XL since it's pricier. Actually, your spot on with your observation between the two. It seems the motion + has wider soundstage and more detailed because of the dedicated tweeter but the Doss XL still has that incredible deep bass that only much higher priced speakers can achieve. Feature wise the motion + is a no brainer specially the true wireless stereo feature ( which I wish the Doss XL has) and the waterproofing. This features justified it's higher price. I guess, it boils down to taste but I think I'll be saving up for 1 pair of the motion + because I want to hear true stereo separation. If only Doss XL has this feature then I'll just buy another XL because I'm also very satisfied with it's sound and that deep bass (below 40 hz) is truly worth keeping it. More power.
Hello from Russia. No war! I want to thank you for your work. Your content is very original and informative. If you did this systematically, then you would certainly be successful. I wish you prosperity. Thanks
I remember watching this a while back, so I revisited and definitely still appreciate this comparison a lot , so thank you. Also, go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get rubber, non scratch, stick on feet pads for the Doss. Not only do they keep the speaker from moving, but they'll help w what's called "acoustic coupling". They're cheap and hold up great. For bass heavy BT speakers, I've find its a good thing to prevent resonating/rattling/exterior bass frequencies.
Doss sounds more natural/organic. The soundcore sounds to have more separation, treble emphasis and soundstage but the Doss sounds more accurate in vocals and instrumentation
I have the Doss and it's fantastic. Frankly there's not much to choose from here. The Anker Soundcore Motion + is as good I've heard. (Oluv) Based on other reviews, Oluv mainly, I got the Doss Soundbox XL today and it sounds amazing! I can't stop smiling! 😊 First, the 'bad' news, it's made of plastic but doesn't look plastic... matte finish. The volume control doesn't sync, it is not rugged or waterproof, more of a home portable and it doesn't take calls but it does go silent when you get a call or when you have any other audio coming from your phone, like UA-cam or any other site and of course, don't drop it on the ground! The rest is ALL beyond good! The grille is metal and the button console is brushed steel with black round glossy buttons that click easy. Even better than I expected! No hum or rattle! This speaker handles ALL recordings really well! I dunno how! My stereo, which is really excellent, can't do that! Even the highs are good. The bass is great!! And wired to my old iPod Classic, it really sounds deadly! And MUCH louder too! Maybe 50% volume roughly, on the speaker, is enough. On my phone, I keep the volume loud and control it on the speaker. I can use phone volume buttons too. I have my entire cd collection on that iPod (mp3) so it's great, plus I'm yet to buy and try a micro SD card. That may be softer than the iPod as then there would be no preamp so to speak but the speaker is more than loud enough, so... JUST BUY IT! Either one...
Doss is a beast for it's price. Have them both, and still cant decide what is better. Doss sounds more stereo-like, while anker is more focused. The only thing that i dislike in doss except it's charger is a battery. Anker battery life is way better. Yeah and the anker app is a very big pro. If you compare only the sound then the speakers are of the same level IMO, and them both are killers!
@@ДормидонтЕвлампиевич-с7ц Absolutely. Here in India however, Motion + was $220 and Doss $160 on Amazon, so I bought the Doss. Very happy with it except for the battery. Mine is defective. I'm sure Doss will send me a replacement when normalcy is somewhat restored.
During the last Amazon Prime Day sale, the Doss went down to $45.00 free shipping. Black Friday is only a few days away, and it's about a year later since the Prime Sale. I wonder if the price is going to be even lower than $45.00. Cannot go wrong.
Your microphone is superb comparing to other reviewers. You know, without any comments or review, even if we only hear the sound we can make our own decision if the recording is so clear. Is it Binaural Mic?
Curious what EQ curve, if any was your Motion Plus using during this comparison? Their app is amazing at getting the most performance outta this AMAZING BT speaker. Install that app if you haven't yet, it will blow your mind how it takes everything up more than a few notches lol. I so wish the Doss had a tweeter, (or 2) & maybe a more rugged housing (water resistance) it may take the Motion Plus out!
Only if you want waterproof. I've owned both. Doss has great sound. Anker is basically as good but waterproof and better form factor (smaller, much smaller). Depends what you want. I ditched the doss because I wanted something waterproof for the pool and the beach, it's just about as good as the doss in terms of sound quality, which is pretty remarkable. If you don't mind dropping some extra bucks, get the Harmon onyx 6. Blows em both out of the the water. And also waterproof.
I appreciate your effort, but would suggest not arbitrarily testing/comparing speakers both at 100% volume if they have different outputs. First of all, most users won't listen to them at 100% the majority of time. Second, people will only turn a speaker up as loud as it still sound good without getting too harsh. The Anker has an advantage both in terms of output and lack of harshness (due to having less transparent treble to start with). Better to set both speakers at a more-or-less comparable (!) volume; otherwise, it's usually a case of "louder = better", as long as it's not breaking up. The Doss has finer details, for sure. The Anker overemphasizes some upper mids and has less treble. But I can see how a lot of people might prefer the Anker.
Both speakers were playing at maximum volume to see if there was any audible distortion. Max volume on both is too loud for indoor use, but outdoors it is about right. I think most people will have these cranked up if they're having some kind of get together outside. Both speakers are about the same output wattage as well. The anker claims 30w and the doss is 32w. The anker was playing with my custom eq which isn't setup very well for loud listening. The mids and treble is boosted a bit too much for louder listening.
Is there any noticeable sound lag (latency?) watching movies on UA-cam and Netflix with the Anker? My Soundcore Flare had a lot of lag bit my Flip 4 didn't and was great. I'm scared to buy the Motion + if I can't watch movies with it. Please help!
Matt Balomenos Thank you so much!!! I guess Anker improved the lag which is great. I wasn't ever going to buy another Anker because of this. Plus the Flare sounds muddy. Idk why people liked is so much. The Flip 4's sound quality was way clear and better bass.
Good review comparison .....I have the two as well and both sound great .....if you play around with the placement close to walls they perform even better in terms of bass....the tweeters on the soundcore make a difference in the highs but the Doss tuning works great
