One dude … ONCE put a bomb in his shoe. And we’re pretending like it’s a regular thing and we need to check everyone for it.

    Yeah, I thought so.

The normal MMwave scanner at the airport would actually check the underwear, it just can't get the bottom of your foot (which this would). But really it's still security theater. It would prevent someone who absolutely did not research and decided to walk into an airport with a gun. But not someone who did some research on the weaknesses of these devices.

I assume this is prototype tech? It's obviously relatively pointless to put it in a module like that, if it has a one second scan time. You can easily have people walk down a narrow corridor and get auto scanned in a way where the only thing that makes it obvious to most people is a sign telling people their shoes are being scanned. There appears (so far) to be no reason for people to stand on a box like that unless they aren't planning on scanning everyone.

I do the same. Trusting a government who tell me a new technology that hasn’t been tested at length is safe, seems mental to me.

It isn't radiation. It's simple millimeter wave detection. Sheesh.

The TSA is a waste of money and entirely theater.
Not only did they fail over 80% tests done BY THE GOVERNMENT with inside knowledge, but the sheer amount of money currently spent on the TSA could actually prevent more possible terrorist attacks, while also making planes generally safer spaces, and costing LESS, by instead paying for air marshals to be stationed on planes instead of any screening equipment whatsoever, and it would have a higher effectiveness rate.
