    I had to put on subtitles because my air pump is so loud!

  • @owen7036

    Tried this with an old whisper 10-30 that was loud enough to be heard from the room next door. I was slightly more conservative that the author and avoided packing around the metal bar next to the electrical coil, as I noticed it was already pretty warm to the touch when I opened it up prior to the poly fill treatment.
    The noise difference was incredible. Can only hear it at all when standing right in front of the tank and it's only a very soft hum. It is not noticeably warmer either (it is about as warm as the skin on my forehead). I have been running it for about three days now with no issues. I will probably open it up in a week or so to look for any signs of damage but don't really anticipate there will be any.
    Thanks, Trafish!

    Do you have a suggestion for an air pump that will provide six, 10 gallon tanks with very good filtration? Each tank has 1 CoOp med. Sponge filter and 1 CoOp small sponge filter. In addition, have addiquite power for possible 3 tank expansion. Thanks for any advice.

    • @TrafishAquatics
      @TrafishAquatics  4 роки тому

      I currently have a whisper 100 running six small sponge filters on my betta rack, but since you have twice as many plus you have the potential of expanding I would look into the Alita 6 or Alita 15. I usually like to run 1-1.5 liters per minute to my sponge filters so I would probably lean more towards the alita 15.

    I think its to dangerous because of fire hazard. Try the super silent piezo electric air pomps from hygger, nicrew etc. Another design, no membrane, but a kind of plate that shrinks and expands under current. The capacity is comparable to a 2 watt one way traditional noisy airpump. It costs about 15 euro.

    Sometimes the noise is simply coming from the pump's feet vibrating on a table or shelf. I made my pump very quiet, by hanging it in mid air using some yarn (hung from a self near my tank). My pump had a small hole/tab molded onto the end of the base to make it easy to hang it.

    • @adorjanc3076
      @adorjanc3076 2 роки тому +4

    I don’t think anybody would recommend this. The number one thing that you can do to lower the sound level is be careful what you set the pump on it transmits vibrations which increases the sound. Quite literally you can set it on top of a towel and that will cut a lot of noise

    • @adorjanc3076
      @adorjanc3076 2 роки тому +2

      True, if you have more expensive pumps. But with cheap pumps the whole pump is vibrating not just the feet. So hanging them in the air still makes them vibrate and noisy. Mostly because the arm inside is hitting the casing and causing the vibration. So, this solution that is in the video is good but .... heat generated by coil won't be able to dissipate.

    Just go up to you attic and get some of those insulations material and use them instead. They are free, fire retardant and you will save a trip to the store.

      I'm not sure If insulation is a good choice, some types of insulation may contain toxic chemical flame retardants, formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. Since the outside air would have to pass through the insulation before it can enter the pumps valve body and then get injected into the tank, there's a possibility it could carry some of the chemicals along with it.

    The noise is reduced by limiting the flickering of the mental plate which means less airflow. You can completely silence the air pump by stopping the flickering with more filler with no airflow at all.😂😂😂

  • @TheBlackBeltPanda

    Absolutely stupid thing to do. This is a great way to start a house fire. While polyester is naturally fire retardant, it can and will ignite and melt given enough heat/energy (which the electromagnet will be more than happy to supply if anything goes wrong), creating a path to conduct heat to the (presumably ABS) housing and the A/C wires. Once the wires lose integrity, they can begin to either short out or their resistance can increase and cause a fire.

    • @TrafishAquatics
      @TrafishAquatics  4 роки тому

      no it does not I've been running multiple pumps this way for over 3 years and have not had a single issue with overheating, Generally speaking air pumps are a sealed unit and have no ability for cooling because there should not be a need for it to be cooled. If your pump is overheating with or without polyester then you should replace it.

      Is it really that hard to listen to the video??? He says that he is using 100% polyester which is not flammable unless a flame is added. This means that if your air pump spontaneously combusted, it would not matter whether or not you have polyester in there. Air pumps would not be sold if they were able to spontaneously combust. Before leaving a comment check to make sure that you are correct. Just listening to the whole video or even reading the description would have told you that this is not cotton and that it is not a fire hazard.

It generates heat, and the material doesnt matter cotton o else, will insulate the heat, and will make the air pump breaks down sooner...or in a bad situation can couse electric fire, if the plastic melts...but the main thing with an air pump is the long term usage 24h and 7 days of week, and a year later, it wont operate with the same efficency, if you insulate it, pu tit in a box, ect...
