Most all fish in the hobby are imported or commercially farmed. But some you cant get from them, for instance lots of types of Rare Rainbows and Killifish, same goes with other types as well cats, tetras, and so forth. So, I hope to inspire more hobbyist to breed fish and grow their own fish rooms and/or feed the enjoyment of keeping aquariums and their inhabitants. I believe hobbyist bring alot to the table when it comes to keeping the conservation of aquatic species. The way some corporations treat the planet, its hard to know when a biotope can get wiped out.
I'm down to 3 Rainbows, so I guess I'd better get after it or I'll have to buy some! The hardest part last time was finding food for them. I finally got some 'lil bites'. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks, Lucas. :)
I just crush up the Tetra Tropical granules to feed the babies. I have snails and sometimes shrimp in my tank to help clean up excess the babies dont eat.
Well said! I've been in the industry for years, but never got into the breeding aspect of fish keeping mostly due to time/space not being available. Hoping to change that in the coming months and push forward with my fish room. Have gotten the bug to start breeding and am excited to see where it takes me. Great videos and info man, keep em coming!
Rare authentic information. This is great. Better than any book or article. And it's fantastic that you can honestly say that high pH and hard warer pose no problems. Greetings from Israel.
Awesome info Lucas , thanks! I just got my first two dwarf neon rainbows. They were the last two, they are hard to come by here. I hope to find a few more or at least one male soon! 😁
Got 8 dwarf neon rainbows two weeks ago only an inch or two in size. Noticed 3 tiny babies, seperated them. Fed on granule dust. Picked a trio for another tank as well.
Great video, I have rainbows in a community tank, and love them. I didn't really know how to breed them, I see them in the act all the time. Thanks for the knowledge brother, have a great evening
Another great video brother. Very informative as always. Look forward to hearing from you about the tiger endlers for my daughter when you get a chance.
Lucas - for the 20tall racks, which rack are you using? I've begun a project breeding my own rainbows and I've been looking into something similar - the greatest compliment is to copy right? Keep being awesome!
Look at my latest uploads. I have a recent video, I went live building the 20 H racks. I also have the design of a 20x 20Long rack I design and will be coming out with the rest of the build here in the near future.
I would prefer setting a colony of daphnia in the tank instead and run your aquarium filterless for all types of microorganisms. Brine eggs could help supplement.
I have alot of my fuses pretty much maxed. Im almost to the point of needing more circuits. This is mostly from the dehumidifiers. Which we want to get a full house dehumidifier which should help. Since its just mostly lights running its not that bad.
Have you ever tried using rain water? Would that encourage breeding behavior with increased acidity and water softness? What is the yield of fry from a 2-3 week breeding period? Thanks a lot!
How long does it take to get a kutubu fry to a size that it starts looking like a turquoise rainbowfish? I have fry but I'm not seeing any growth!!! I'm kinda worried!
So many rainbow questions so little time. Would you recommend the freeze dried black worms? Also have you considered selling juvenile rainbows? I want to start breeding some Goldiei. I was checking out all the varieties they look so cool trifasiata too!
Hey again Lucas. Do nerite snails would harm the eggs or fry? thanks again and God bless you and your family for all the help you give to other hobbyists.
What do you feed the fry? I just got Neon Rainbows and I only bred betta before so I'd like to know if I can feed them BBS like the betta fry or if they should eat something else.
I just use the dusting of the tetra color tropical granule food off my finger, now wether they eat that or the micro bugs eating of the dust or a combo of both Idk. As long as they are big enough to handle BBS, I have never tried BBS on them.
I just crumble Tetra Tropical Granules in my fingers. I breed my rainbows in shrimp tanks and the shrimp will actually clean the eggs. But I feed my shrimp good so they are so tempted to eat eggs, which I have never seen them do.
Lucas, I have a hand full of guppy fry/juveniles in my 29gal boesemani rainbow breeding tank. I haven't seen the guppy fry/juveniles eat the eggs but eggs go missing on a regular basis. Should I pull out the guppy fry/juveniles? Or do you think the adult boesemanis are eating them?
I’m gonna try my luck breeding either the Turquoise Rainbow or the Madagascar Rainbows. I have an empty 20 long, but it has a bunch of Ramshorn Snails. Question: Will the snails eat the eggs?
I will in the future. They tend to go fast and take a long time to raise up. I will soon have a more organized setup and will be able to amp up breeding them. But like Ive said they are like a fine wine and take time.
Only if you take eggs from that tank which you should never do. Rainbows will eat any babies and eggs, they are always hungry lol. I always pull my breeders and put them in another tank to breed then when they are done they go back in the big community.
Oh how I love ❤️ seeing rainbows! They are awesome fish. I wish my lfs paid more attention to their fish they are selling. I was going to buy some bosemani from them but when I looked in the tank at least 4 of them were sick 😡. They were also asking $20 a piece! Sad
L.R.Bretz's Aquatics I don't mind paying more for rainbows 🌈😄 I'm going to wait for Aquarium Experience in Chicago. Hopefully I can buy quality rainbows there🤞🏼
Is it possible to get babies in the tank without moving the parents to a breeding tank and then move them back? Im interested in breeding my dwarf neon rainbows but i only have a small 8 gal aquarium besides my big aquariums with fish in.
With Dwarf Neons you can since they are colony breeders. Having some plants at the top for babies to hide in will help with survival in a tank that small.
Lucas, I want to breed my threadfins in my neo tanks. I have 3 pair in one tank and they have laid eggs in the subwassertang, but it's impossible to get out and transfer the eggs to another tank, as it is attached to driftwood that the shrimp love. So making some spawning mops tomorrow. I can't believe how shrimp safe these guys really are. They are in with my rilli's at the moment and there are baby shrimp everywhere. I feed them a variety of foods of small meals of fry food, frozen baby brine shrimp and live microworms. Is there anything else I can do to make it more successful. Your advice would be appreciated as always.
Sounds like the spawning mops are a great option for I was gonna recommend water lettuce but a mop will work the same. Good to know they are good with shrimp, I havent tried it yet but seemed like they would be since they have such small mouths.
I put 2 dwarf neons in a 40 breeder with spawning mops the male seems to just chase the female around like a mad man is that normal? They been in there about a week or so
Not everyone looks down at it. Some people just prefer keeping the different species pure rather than creating hybrids. If you're not breeding to sell to the public though, who cares🤷♀️
I just feed crushed up tropical granules, like the dust off my fingers. You can essentially turn any food into fry food. Big reason I like dirty tanks with a bunch of mulm as well is it allows the fry to naturally graze.
Hello good vedio i like it and was wondering if you can help me buy my first fish and aquarium so i can start up this hobby please let me know if you can

Great fish room those fish sure turn on...
I did exactly what you said in this video because you helped me out with this earlier in the year and it worked great and now I have a bunch of fry
Awesome info Lucas , thanks! I just got my first two dwarf neon rainbows. They were the last two, they are hard to come by here. I hope to find a few more or at least one male soon! 😁
This is awesome I been wanting to breed my dwarf neons thanks for the info!
I have watched and liked this video a few times now. It's depressing how few likes it has. People want too much shine and not enough information.
I watch hundreds of tropical aquarium videos and yours are by far the best. I wish I had 1% of your knowledge.
Awesome learning as always Lucas😀 Thank you!!
:D
So helpful -- thanks as always!
Got 8 dwarf neon rainbows two weeks ago only an inch or two in size. Noticed 3 tiny babies, seperated them. Fed on granule dust. Picked a trio for another tank as well.
Thanks Lucas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video, I have rainbows in a community tank, and love them. I didn't really know how to breed them, I see them in the act all the time. Thanks for the knowledge brother, have a great evening
I've never seen anyone make algea look good but you managed
Another great video brother. Very informative as always. Look forward to hearing from you about the tiger endlers for my daughter when you get a chance.
I use a small plastic container with gravel for black worms then syphon them out with a syringe. This keeps the leaches and hydras out most times.
even though dude bro is too stoned to talk i still love this channel because he is the only aquatuber that has decent teeth.

Awesome! Looks like it's time to catch up on what I've been missing in the queue.
You answered most of my questions...what do you think about autofeeders using brine shrimp eggs
I would prefer setting a colony of daphnia in the tank instead and run your aquarium filterless for all types of microorganisms. Brine eggs could help supplement.
@@LRBaquatics thanks for the reply are the Daphnia commercially available
Hey LRB, what do you do with all the electric? Are you adding more circuits to use? Curious what the amount of electricity you are using.
Preacox Neon Dwarf Rainbows I'm interested in breeding.
How long does it take to get a kutubu fry to a size that it starts looking like a turquoise rainbowfish? I have fry but I'm not seeing any growth!!! I'm kinda worried!
You sir are amazing! Thanks for the knowledge. I also got into rainbows from you
Awesome
So many rainbow questions so little time. Would you recommend the freeze dried black worms? Also have you considered selling juvenile rainbows? I want to start breeding some Goldiei. I was checking out all the varieties they look so cool trifasiata too!
The frozen ones should be fine. Rainbows love to eat! I will be selling some here in the future. Theres alot of people wanting them.
Thanks lucas.👍
Hey again Lucas. Do nerite snails would harm the eggs or fry? thanks again and God bless you and your family for all the help you give to other hobbyists.
Not the fry but potentially the eggs but not quite sure. I know snails will eggs sometimes.
What do you feed the fry? I just got Neon Rainbows and I only bred betta before so I'd like to know if I can feed them BBS like the betta fry or if they should eat something else.

Hey Bretz I successfully bred your doritiyi! Right now the little guys are huddled in a corner hiding and I spot feed them. Guess I need another tank!
Congrats! That didnt take long.
Lucas, what do you feed the newly hatched rainbows? Do you think shrimp will eat the rainbow eggs?
I just crumble Tetra Tropical Granules in my fingers. I breed my rainbows in shrimp tanks and the shrimp will actually clean the eggs. But I feed my shrimp good so they are so tempted to eat eggs, which I have never seen them do.
That's awesome! I had a feeling that was the answer!
When rainbows are ready to breed size age any info is appreciated thanks :)
Very young age, juveniles size. Around 2" and for the smaller pseudomugil types as small as 0.5 inches.
Never mind, I just saw the guppies eat the eggs.
I was about to say yes to remove them.
Hey. Nice info ..thanks. Did I hear you say you had water ppm. of 300 plus
Correct. Comes out of the tap 350-400+ depending on the season and rain.
I’m gonna try my luck breeding either the Turquoise Rainbow or the Madagascar Rainbows. I have an empty 20 long, but it has a bunch of Ramshorn Snails. Question: Will the snails eat the eggs?
I keep snails in my breeding tanks and never have issues with it.
Snails can be really useful for eating fungus eggs which can save the healthy ones.
on your website you only have one type available??? When do you think you will be more stocked.
I will in the future. They tend to go fast and take a long time to raise up. I will soon have a more organized setup and will be able to amp up breeding them. But like Ive said they are like a fine wine and take time.
Do you feed baby brine shrimp?
People feed them spirulina
I keep missing your live streams, was wondering if you ever got any fry out of your peacock gobies/gudgeons?
I did get some fry and have one lone survivor from it
When you keep different types of rainbow in the same community tank is there not a chance of inter breeding ?
Only if you take eggs from that tank which you should never do. Rainbows will eat any babies and eggs, they are always hungry lol. I always pull my breeders and put them in another tank to breed then when they are done they go back in the big community.

Thats unfortunate and why we need hobbyist breeding them. They usually arent very cheap though becuase they take a long time to raise up.
L.R.Bretz's Aquatics I don't mind paying more for rainbows 🌈😄 I'm going to wait for Aquarium Experience in Chicago. Hopefully I can buy quality rainbows there🤞🏼
Thats awesome you are going!

Hello Lucas, roughly how long takes m. boesemani and m. australis to grow up to 1.5 to 2 inches? thanks in advance.
Forever
Lol jkn about 6 months or so depending on water changes.
It just feels like forever
Could I use 10 gallon for fry
Lucas, I want to breed my threadfins in my neo tanks. I have 3 pair in one tank and they have laid eggs in the subwassertang, but it's impossible to get out and transfer the eggs to another tank, as it is attached to driftwood that the shrimp love. Yes, its a good sign they have been breeding. They will chase, play, and breed all day.
Awesome thanks man!! I'm excited to see some babies!
I keep all my rainbows together why is that looked down at?
Not everyone looks down at it. Some people just prefer keeping the different species pure rather than creating hybrids. If you're not breeding to sell to the public though, who cares🤷♀️
I personally dont like mixing them, I keep turquoise rainbows only because I dont want to mix in other colors
If I keep 2 males & 4 females in a 30 gallon with no other fish, will they pair up and breed?
Definitely
any problem with egg fungus?
Very rarely if anymore. Since the tanks are all mature and naturally planted.
How can I tell if my Praecox are old enough to reproduce?
They breed at a young age. If you see the male chasing the female and showing breeding behaviors then they should be good to go.
What do you feed new praecox fry?
I just feed crushed up tropical granules, like the dust off my fingers. You can essentially turn any food into fry food. Big reason I like dirty tanks with a bunch of mulm as well is it allows the fry to naturally graze.
Thanks for the response man. That's what I've been doing but was getting nervous I might starve them.
L.R.Bretz's Aquatics How big should my praecox be before I introduce them to the tank with the parents?
Hello good vedio i like it and was wondering if you can help me buy my first fish and aquarium so i can start up this hobby please let me know if you can
Do u sell rainbow fish
Was this a stream? if so that's usually why the quality is low.
It was a stream most my videos have been lately.
L.R Bretz' the GOD!!!
any blue gurallis for sale?
Not at the moment, maybe have more closer to winter.
have you tryed to breed threadfin tetras ,,I BELIEVE THATS THERE NAME. ..NOT RAINBOW THREADFIN.. FOR SURE..
Im not sure what you mean by threadfin tetra.... Ive never heard it and cant find it on google, they just show the threadfin rainbow fish.
My momma told me to never let you turn me over.
Shrimp Jesus
