They have him completely surrounded with tanks and guns aimed right at him and as the commander said, they already took all of his robots away. So it makes sense that they would think they have Eggman completely beaten.

Gotta say, Robotnik absorbing the emerald's power and actually gaining supernatural abilities himself is a very fresh take that I greatly enjoyed.
Best thing about the movie. Hyper Robotnik is canon in my heart.

Robotnik's evil but not that level of evil. His evilness was tamed enough to be more likeable than any other villains. And I love his character a lot more than any other villains from other series/movies.
I like how Robotnik actually looks after his allies like Stone.

My thinking is the Wachowskis suspect that Cmdr. Walters was the one who originally hired Robotnik in the first place (back in the first film, over the objections of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, of which Walters was Vice Chairman), but haven't confronted him outright to confirm or deny their suspicions.

Anyone else spot that at the beginning, just under the rotor blades of the helicopter says "SA-2," like Sonic Adventure 2?
All that's missing is if they have changed it to SA-X, then everyone in that universe would've been majorly doomed.
Considering that it probably stands for Sigma-Alpha 2 in universe like in SA2, I wonder if for the 3rd movie they’ll use that helicopter to capture Sonic like in the game

Also to me it kinda looked like there was a escape tunnel at the backend of the pod. So maybe it even doubled as an escape pod. Gotta make sure the bestest boy is safe after all in case of an emergency.
Robotnik would never say it but I got the feeling he appreciated Dr. Stone more than any of his machines.

One thing I really wished Jim Carrey to do is wearing his googles at his eyes to give the trademark Robotnik look.
Other than that, Jim really nailed the role of a godlike but insane and badass Robotnik.

The Master Emerald, the most unstoppable and powerful artifact in the universe, capable of manipulating all aspects of reality to one's own thoughts and wishes. One could easily destroy entire armies or change entire galaxies and the entire universe in one's own image in a blink of an eye.
...And all Robotnik uses it for is to create a giant mech?

@@nandotnt5678 True, but in the Archie Comics, by manipulating Chaos Energy through advanced technology, Robotnik utilized something that will come to be known as a "Genesis Wave", which has the capability to literally REWRITE REALITY TO HIS OWN DESIGN. Just by using a couple of the seven Chaos Emeralds, he was capable of rewriting reality/history of an entire planet.
If he had all Seven Chaos Emeralds in hand, he would be capable of releasing a "Super Genesis Wave" that would be able to rewrite the ENTIRE UNIVERSE if not the ENTIRE MULTIVERSE ITSELF.
If the Master Emerald did allowed Robotnik to be "All Powerful", "All Knowing", and "All Seeing", then he would be given the knowledge that he will definitely be capable of rewriting all of reality to his own design, and he would have more than enough power to do it with ease.
Then again, Robotnik was obsessed with machines, even confident that they can do anything that he designed them to do. And he is more attuned with technology instead of mystical/omnipotent forces. So you might be right on that one. Or maybe it was just arrogance once he gotten drunk off of infinite power he felt within him once the idea that he is now invincible and greater than everyone else ran through his head.

For Sonic, I understand because he was injured. You can see him clutching his arm in pain when he stands up while Eggman is about to take the emerald.

in Sonic 2 we got: Sonic and tails, Sonic VS Knuckles, Sonic adventure, Sonic heros and a Super Sonic apperance. If bowser doesn't get tossed off a platform by his tail... then They will have missed the mark set by this amazing film that was almost a fucking disaster on arrival.
He got THROWN INTO THE SKY, beaten by a SUPER STAR with the theme, Mario does his classic pose more than once, Peach floats, DK does his Smash Bros moves, Mario Kart has MULTIPLE classic items appear, YEAH... this movie is cool. But Mario was ADAPTATION near perfection.
Both Sonic movies are better than the Mario movie imo. These movies took their time to build up their characters, human characters are actually likeable, and it has great soundtrack and action.
The Mario movie had a great introduction but the rest of the movie was just one rushed scene after the next, cramming as much Mario games as possible into a 90 min movie, a shitty rivalry between Mario and Bowser, hell, even Luigi had more cause to be Bowser's number one enemy compared to Mario in it. Peach is so op that it almost makes Mario pointless, if she can kick ass all she wants and better than Mario, then Mario is almost pointless.
