    This fight is heartbreaking.
    You find a husk of a former god. He's sacrificed himself to preserve his age of fire. And what's worse is he is incredibly weak, the fight almost makes you want to be reluctant in killing him.
    Dark souls is an incredible game.

    • @nathanjora7627
      @nathanjora7627 3 роки тому +88

      « he is incredibly weak »
      ... No ? He’s literally one of the most relentless, punishing, fast hitting, and hard hitting boss in the game.
      Sure, you can parry him and make the fight a joke, but you can just summon Solaire and make gargoyles and OS a joke, you can use pyromancies and make... every boss fight a joke aside from Queelag ceaseless and centipede, you can use any ultra to trivialize any boss fight, etc.
      What I’m getting at is that Gwyn has a cheese, but it doesn’t make him weak by any stretch of the imagination.

      I think "weak" means that Gwyn is soulless, he have almost no flesh on his body.Only thing that moves him is an anger just like any hollow one.He is weak because of his fate.
      The hollow know no fatigue.

      @@TheWolfPackGAC1000 Sure, that I’d agree with :)
      And to clarify why I nitpicked your statement, it’s simply because lots of people have a tendency to overlook Gwyn’s honestly pretty well conceived fight due to his achilles’ heel, so they completely underestimate him, which makes me a little too... defensive about him let’s say ^^

    • @nathanjora7627
      @nathanjora7627 3 роки тому +18

      @@triquepilaTERRORCLUB I definitely agree that Gwyn is weakened, and at his weakest, I didn’t want to deny that ^^
      I just meant Gwyn as a boss, not as a character.
      As for what moves him... Honestly I don’t think it’s anger. When we fight him, he has hollowed, so he just does what he has been singlemindedly pursuing before hollowing, protecting the age of fire, which he would presumably do out of care for his kin and subject, which includes a metric ton of humans.
      And thanks, it’s not every day that I find people that are grateful for being overly detailed and verbose, usually it’s more the target or scorn or (probably well deserved ^^) irritation.

    You finally make it to the one everyone has been talking about, and it turns out he is weak.
    Instead of having a triumphant victory, your victory feels empty and hollow.
    Instead of an epic battle, it feels like you're beating down someone who has already been defeated.
    It's almost like all of these legends have been lies told to you by the world the entire time.
    The dark truth of the world, the reality of your actions, it all comes to it's boiling point right here.
    There is no good ending.
    That is the point of Gwyn, the "lord" of cinder.

    Gwyn is, compared to the rest of the Dark Souls universe, one of the strongest people to ever exist. He fought against the dragons (The player only faces a few and all of them are either damaged by time and death, don't have invincibility or can't even properly fly when they fight you), the demons, that were created by the same power as the one that rests within him, gave massive junks of his soul away as a sign of thankfulness or out of fear, set himself on fire and burned for eternities. And when we fight him, literally having defeated the kings, the god of death, the witch of izalith, seath and so on, getting power out of them, he still doesn't give in and fights to the bitter end, even able to keep up with Solaire's help. Heck, in DS3 the Cinder's last line of defense against you is using gwyn's soul, that is even more used by now than in DS1.
    And his mental state isn't even described here.

I was expecting a grand cutscene showing Gwyn’s might, but no; I was just thrown into the fight with this music playing in the background. All I could then feel was immense guilt. All the lore finally connected for me and after the fight, it felt relieving and so depressing at the same time. I finally beat a game that I never thought I was going to beat ever in my lifetime.

    Dark Souls is a game made by people that know how to make a tragedy world,
    this game is 90% of the time struggle and perseverance,
    some times in a boss fight you even begin to doubt if this struggle is even worth it,
    you push forward, not matter the challenge, and yet, the game does not have a happy, satisfying ending.
    You surely wondered what is your real purpose is this world, linking the first flame is the one set by default to you, but somehow even after you link the first flame there is still this feeling of seeking a purpose.
    You fight in this lands with harsh boss fights, annoying enemies, but the same lands of good companions and friends.
    But in the end, Dark Souls is a tragedy, and all of this companions are killed, all of the joy that you had is killed, just like how the fire fades and the world is consumed by darkness, you too, slowly becomes more hopeless about fighting in this world.
    Dark Souls is a purposeless world, a sad, grim, aggresive world.
    The pursuit of purpose in a purposeless world.

      What’s not natural is the transition from the age of ancients to the age of fire, it’s almost literally man made, except it’s not man but gods and men and witches and skeletons.

Some view him as the villain who got what deserved in the end, for permanently changing the cycle of nature and betraying humanity. Others see him as a hero, who fought valiantly for what he held dear and bravely sacrificed to save what was left of his crumbling legacy. we know that Gwyn feared humanity and did everything to contain it, fear can turn into anger and hate, what he did to the pygmies was very wrong and in the end they suffered for nothing the era of light ended all the same, that was the first sin, Gwyn caused a lot of chaos and pain by refusing to let his times fade away and give the dark his time in the world his the first sin cause the greatest unbalance the world has ever seen, he saw dark as and his greatest enemy and the greatest evil failing to se that light and dark are nither good or evil they are two sides if the same coin.
    with his dying breath gwyn committed the greatest sin of all creating a way to stop the dark from having his time in the world by deceiving the world that the age of fire must be maintain and the one who sacrifices into the flame will be a hero when in reality it will be an oppressor denying the creatures if dark there time in the world forever fighting to bring balance by letting the fire fade and live in peace until fire naturally ignites ones again within the roots if the old world to start another age of fire time and time again. The times before Gwyn the world hade a perfect balance and everlasting circle of light and dark where the light will fade away and within the dark a spark will ignite a new flame but now many will follow on the steps of Lord Gwyn fighting for the era of fire a horror that last thousands of years creating an undead world with no hope other than the one single undead making the right choice ones he stands on the ashes laying around a bonfire that should have never being created.
    very fascinating story for real I can say that this will stay with me for a very long time and it has so far, i hope one day this type of mitology and storytelling gets the recognition it deserves and looks like the times are changing, with or boy Miyazaki getting awards left and right and creating a new game with none other than G.g.r Martin cant wait for elden ring. and i hope dark sols stills has some fire left for the future.

      DS2 is never clear on what the first sin is, and it could be a thousand different things, both that we were told about and weren't told about.
      "Gwyn caused a lot of chaos and pain by refusing to let his times fade away"
      No, gwyn allowed unrivaled prosperity to last for longer, the chaos and the pains arrived because of the dark, the very thing he wanted to ward off.
      "with his dying breath gwyn committed the greatest sin of all creating a way to stop the dark from having his time in the world"
      ... That's not what he did though, how is it sinful to extend a good age by taking on to yourself the toll of extending that age ?
      Especially when the age you want to avoid is both eternal and shitty.
      "deceiving the world that the age of fire must be maintain"
      It doesn't have to be maintained, if you want to live a garbage life as a hollow go on.
      "when in reality it will be an oppressor denying the creatures if dark there time in the world"
      Oh boohoo, the poor darkwraiths and locust preachers that can't steal humans' essence/eat humans/both in peace, what poor creature, what an asshole gwyn was by stopping them from taking over.
      "forever fighting to bring balance by letting the fire fade and live in peace"
      ... Live in peace ? The creatures of the dark ? Pray tell, how peaceful is Nashandra, Nadalia, Elana, the hollows, the darkwraiths, or the locust preachers ?
      The "peace" they know is, at best, the inactivity that hollows can have, but that's at best the same peace as death, except that at any moment you can rise up to attack a living being nearby.
      That's not peace.
      "until fire naturally ignites ones again"
      Never is it said ever that this will occur, and in fact DS3 hints pretty heavily at the fact that the only reason why the fire might lit up again is thanks to the linkings of the fire, "I sense the presence of tiny flames. Like precious embers, left to us by past Lords, linkers of the fire."
      "The times before Gwyn the world hade a perfect balance and everlasting circle of light and dark"
      ... No, before Gwyn the world was stuck in the age of ancients, with nothing moving, living or dying, with only archtrees and everlasting dragons.
      There was no circle of light and dark, there was no light or dark, those appeared with the first flame, as explicitly stated in the opening of DS1.
      "very fascinating story for real"
      Yeah, a shame it's not the game's though.

      I feel like a lot of people like you are just being edgy and think they're smart because they say that Gwyn is evil. He did do some messed up things, and he definently isn't the hero of his story, ut he still remained one of the more moral characters in a world devoid of heroes. He feared the dark more than anything because it meant the death of this world, not because men would prosper in it - in fact they wouldn't, that's only a lie Kaathe tells to sway the Chosen Undead. New Londo and Oolacile are prime examples of what happens when men are fully exposed to the dark. Remorseless, murderous Darkwraiths and mad shells of people with their humanity went wild doesn't really sound like a good time, does it now? That's what Gwyn wanted to avoid. And yes, his means were questionable. He made the Ringed City as a prison for men, even though it was a very comfortable prison at that - until the dark seeped in, the same dark that Gwyn was so terrified of. Other things, like the Darksign were not directly his doing, just the harmful side effect of his actions - side effects he had no reason to anticipate. At the end, Gwyn was thrown into this world of Fire just as clueless as any Hollow; but he cherished the Fire, not because it kept him in power, but because he truly loved it. Noting proves this quite as much as his sacrifice. Gwyn sacrificed his life, his power, his sanity, his soul to maintain his beloved Fire just a little longer; and that was an act of gentle love, not interest or power games, as it was the very last thing he did as the Lord of Sunlight. He did not know what kind of ancient cycle he's messing up or what kind of prophecy is he going aganist; he simply saw something he truly loved, and protected it, because it was all he has ever known. If that makes him a villain in your book, you need help.

    You've fought through so much stuff, so much difficult stuff. Normally, you'd think that the final boss would be the toughest of them all, and you're not to blame. But no, he's just an old man.
    Through the entirety of the game, you're told how great Gwyn is, how strong he is and what great things he has done, yet you find yourself facing a destroyed, fading semblance of what was once Gwyn, and that's exactly why you can even beat him to begin with... because he is a husk of his past self.

      I’d wager it’s because it’s a fight, and a fast hitting boss, faster music fits better in that context.
      That said, listening to it purely for its own sake it’s much better with that pace, more melancholic, calm, and less aggressive, the latter two being the thing that would maybe have jarred a little with the rhythm of the fight (if you don’t parry him).

    • @triquepilaTERRORCLUB
      @triquepilaTERRORCLUB  3 роки тому +1

      Yes im agree. No matter how tragic his story is untill the bossfight is fastpacing.But i think , they were able to make a slower one,then Gwyn is weak and slow as well as music.
      But, as argument to Ry I can say Pontiff Salyvahn have a slow theme despite the fact that his bossfight is fastpaced as well as Gwyn one.

    • @nathanjora7627
      @nathanjora7627 3 роки тому

      @@triquepilaTERRORCLUB Pontiff’s theme is slower, sure, but it’s also very different, and so is his fight.
      To be fair though, although his theme starts very slow, it actually quickens relatively quickly, in the first twenty/thirty seconds. It doesn’t become fast paced don’t get me wrong, it’s just faster paced than at the beginning, which to me makes sense since it’s after those twenty/thirty seconds that the fight really picks up.
      Edit : actually, the violins are pretty fast quite often, as violins usually are, so the music isn’t entirely slow paced either.
      Edit 2 : also, I just remembered but Pontiff isn’t as on the offensive as Gwyn, he’ll make pauses every so often, which Gwyn never does, he goes full speed ahead only with his second phase, and if you listen the latter half of his theme is actually fairly quickly paced, so I do really think that they are trying to match somewhat the tempo and the speed of attacks/number of attacks per second.
      But I can only speculate, and I’m no musician, so maybe my guess is totally offbase, it’s just the best I can come up with.

    • @triquepilaTERRORCLUB
      @triquepilaTERRORCLUB  3 роки тому

      @@nathanjora7627 yea, u'r right.i forgot that his theme is becoming faster after first 30 seconds.
      But i think that music should fit to the storyline more than to a bossfight.Ofc souls series is about fights rather than a story, but maybe in alternative universe everything is like i said.

    • @nathanjora7627
      @nathanjora7627 3 роки тому

      @@triquepilaTERRORCLUB I agree it should fit the storyline, I don’t know about fitting the storyline « more » than the fight, but to be fair, it’s not just Gwyn’s theme, it’s also the theme of the climax of the game, right before the resolution, from that perspective making it a little bit more fast paced also makes sense both in relation to the fight and the story.
      Speaking of « fitting the storyline » though, and since you brought up Pontiff, I feel like there are far less meaningful themes in DS3 than in DS1.
      Like, it feels to me like less of them tell a story compared to the themes from DS1 that tell a story (mainly sif’s, artorias’s, Gwyn’s, Gwyndolin’s, and... I think that’s all ?), or that those that do tell a story aren’t as impactful as the ones that do in DS1 maybe ?
      I don’t know, I feel like there is something off with a lot of DS3’s music, despite the fact that they are pretty much all masterpieces, which, thinking about it, may be the issue (when all the musics are masterpieces, the more important musics won’t stick out as much as they would have if the other musics hadn’t been as impressive as the important ones. Like, if Taurus and Capra and the gargoyles and all the minor bosses in DS1, lore wise, had as meaningful and impactful themes as Gwyn’s, I don’t know that Gwyn’s theme would’ve hit so hard, do you see what I mean ?).
