This is like the perfect way to do a tutorial! I got a complete insight as to how to spec and glyph for an Arcane Mage, having hardly played a Mage. the weird thing is, is that you didn't even have to narrate! Please keep it up, and hopefully someone else will do tutorials of this standard:)
Super clear and well done. I've been using this build lately. Thanks for explaining every aspect. Very well done. Please do part 3 and more. Maybe a Frostfire build Tutorial.
GREAT Tutorial for us arcane mages......it helped me so much! When will be realised tutorial nr.2?? TY and greetings from Croatia...keep your GOOD work :P
@lust4moreblood you dont need a slow, you need a snare. earthshock, icy touch, thunderclap, are all examples of snares that affect attack speed, they give the benefeit of totw.
@dxforme999 Torment the weak will be in effect nearly constantly, warrior's Thunderclap causes it, Shamans Earth SHock, DK, Frost Fever, and some other things that don't readily come to mind, why would you not want a talent that effectively gives you +12% damage. Torment the weak should be included in every mage spec that can find the points for it.
Like the one poster said check the rank of your spell because when you duel spec and u get a new spell it doesn't automatically appear in the toolbar unless you are that spec. EX: you are fire spec and you get arcane rank X and even though you are duel speced when you switch over to arcane spec u must put the newest rank of arcane missile in that tool bar.
the talent point in magic attunement will be better used if u add a chill efeect on blizzard..this way u can crit more with blizzard ... that was a really nice video! subscibed and 6/5 stars!!
@20graffiti08 I agree with Dishvan. Arcane starts out pretty rough early on in the game, and only truly shines later on. Keep going with Frost or Fire for now, and maybe try Arcane later. The point at which Arcane becomes really good though is at level 65 (i think) when you get Arcane Blast, which makes your Arcane powers very very powerful. Also, by then, you'll have access to higher tier arcane talents like Missile Barrage, which are very helpful. Good luck!
range s a passive dps, the less time you have running in, away, or to something the more dps you do, even if you save(only) 5 secs from this talent it is worth it because you have gotten 2 more arcane blasts off in that time rather than a 50% increase on 1 cast every 200 casts
I know there are a lot of mages putting in points in Arcane Stability, but assuming that you're in a raid with skilled tanks you should never have aggro of mobs. Consequently you shouldn't get any damage except of aura effects which affects the entire raid. Damage from this source won't increase your channeling time that much so that you lose dps. Maybe you can notice this in some of my vids.
I wouldn't pick slow because alot of the time people already have the boss/ mob slowed, therefore you can add other talents that give more damage. and casting slow actually slows your dps by casting, by a half a second each time
@lust4moreblood You don't need slow or a frost mage, there are more kind of "slow" in this game provided by other classes (like I explained many times before and in the video too) - Slow is useless for PvE
Excellent tutorial - However, I should point out that at 1:23 you say that intellect increases sepll power; no it does not. It only increases spell crit chance and mana. Cheers
@inika1000 Yeah I did xD The problem is that I play on two different realms, with friends on each one of them. My mage is on the one that my "far-away" friends plays on, but in February there is a LAN-party in my area. And everyone there that plays WoW plays on the realm that I have my low-levels on. And I don't have money to transfer the Mage. So I simply gotta make a new mage... :) Btw, is Fire good for leveling? I hear it's not, but I wanna try something new, but I still wanna level fast!
It's a raid spec and this is assuming that there's at least one slow effect applied to the mob by a raid member. There are a lot of misunderstandings with this talent, Torment of the Weak doesn't have to go with "Slow" under any circumstances.
Ah sorry I didn't know that you were referring to bossfights. In a normal raid with good class balance there's >90% chance that someone slows the mob/boss. It could be a frost/ffb mage, a hunter (if the it's not a boss), a warrior, a shaman etc.. it just works on every spell which decreases movement speed or attack speed. You can say it's working on nine of ten mobs and on all bosses.
The thing is, you don't need frost channeling if you collect gear with spirit. Then you don't have to ask yourself where to subtract points ;-) There's no possibility to avoid a great dps loss when going deeper into the frost tree.
I'm using AE for the scrapbots at XT, Blizzard for mobs which are dangerous to come near.. It doesn't make the best dmg but you don't have any other choice, do you?^^
@arttay1090 Well this applies to your gear then. I have over 1k spirit in heroes, that would mean 10% of 1k = 100 bonus spirit, and additionally I have the set bonus which grants you +15% spirit into crit rating conversion, what would mean an increase in crit rating of about 70. That's nearly 2% crit chance and in raids with high end gear this will scale smoothly, so I think it's a pretty good option. But it's true that you don't need the 10% spirit if you don't aim for the appropriate gear.
Why Ice shards on this spec? Frost warding is a lot of better in my point of view. There are a lot of bosses which has Fire/Frost raid damage. For me it's really lovely to recover some mana for example on Ignis the furnance master, everytime he does the aoe fire-impale thing. It's not like you used that many frost abilities.
@Fr13dN3wb Well molten armor is nice with the crit but i still go with frost armor or pvp and when doing a dungeon i switch to mage armor don't use molten that much.
Hm... my Problem now ist that i want to play PvE AND PvP .... And in pvp i need the arcan stability talent and the slowing talent. and i think the Glyph for Evocation is very important too. Which Glyph would you delete and are the Frost talents really important or can i use the stability and slowing talents instead? btw i remember there was a talent for the invivibility too. Do you recomment it for Pvp? pls help^^
im noob in world of warcraft and i just started playing. I need help with the talents and spells. Should i buy only spells that are arcane or i should buy em all. And i want to be arcane/frost mage. Can u explain shortly Thanks
@zonda1991 That sure is true. I have a lvl 72 Frost Mage. In The Nexus the other day I was in a group with another Mage. He told me Arcane was the best for PvE. I said that I thought it was Frost? I'm gonna make a new Mage that is going to be a PvE Mage, what spec should I choose?
I'm still working on it.. part 2 will contain much more information, thus it needs more time. Besides, I'm pretty busy with university issues atm. Maybe it's done this weekend, but you shouldn't take it for granted ;-)
Yeah, you need arcane stability for sure.u need to spend 4 points there so with the aura of paladins u have like 100% reduced pushback suffering when u cast missiles or arcane blast.(e.g see mimiron fights)
This was when Arcane was HARD to play. in the ICC days it became easy to play Arcane but in 3.0.9 patch it was very difficult to play it right and not go oom
Like I said, with the right gear you can spam out Arcane Blast like crazy and you won't get oom once even in a 13 minutes Yogg-Saron fight. Of course you cannot just spam AB without thinking, but for an arcane mage, the only reason why you are in the raid is because you have to pull insane dps.. you're not a supporter like a fire mage and have to compensate for this.
Thanks for puttin this up man coz i got a lvl 36 mage that will switch to arcane when he gets 60 atm hese frost because its the best way to lvl, i'm looking for to getting to lvl 60 and then changin to "Arcane" and then getting to lvl 80 so i can pwn in random heroics and raids man tyvm for the video though i might change a little of the talents xD My charactors name is Zarathanax and hese on Nagrand.
People, please consider that this tutorial was meant for patch 3.1.x, that means it does not take the 4th stack of arcane blast into consideration, aswell as the other changes that have been made to the arcane mage. It doesn't make sense complaining about something that is already outdated, but anyways, I will provide for a new fresh tutorial in the upcoming months which then gives you a new basis for your arguments ;-)
Much easier levling with frost spec, as it gives you full control over the opponent, arcane is basically for heavy dmg, and as your gear is crap while you are levling (if it is not, you are wasting time and gold) you wont get the full benefit of this.
i didnt understand the last part much but it seemed like you said you need the best gear...that is very untrue. i was in deadly gear with furius rings neck etc. warr came up to me with 28k health (arms) took him down no problem, and sorry if i read ur comment wrong.
Well, what else spell would you suggest for using as an arcane mage? Arcane Blast is the main ability and 90% of your dmg depend on this spell. If you have mana problems when using Arcane Blast you're definitely doing something incredibly wrong ;-) If you think using Arcane Blast is stupid and that this mana drain makes you go oom in longer bossfights, just have a look at my other bossfight vids. Don't give the ppl here the wrong idea.
Most of the arcane talents are pvp only talents. Incanters absorption, counterspell, mana shield, slow and such things.. the others are just not efficient/useful enough and don't provide for synergy effects.
I got a low level mage that is 52 soon 53 and Im playing with Arcane as Mainspec and Frost offspec, Im using Arcane in dungeons and Frost leveling ( Quests ) Im allways at top DPS/Damage in Dungeons while in Arcane :D
Resistance doesn't matter at all, as a mage you don't need anything to survive in a raid except your raid healers. And approx. 50% of the total raid dmg of the mage is based on blizzard aoe.
@Fr13dN3wb Fire meh not really good for lvling i THINK that fire is just for more damage while frost is more defensive and a nice little damage there if you put all 3/3 into shatter 50% crit hit while target frozen baby
Even though we are all waiting for rotations vid to come out... we all do know basically the basic and most common rotation. But hey maybe you might teach us something new!
arcane mages main moves are arcane shit but dont be afraid to throw out a frostfire or frostbolt if u want ti slow someone and not waste a point in that specific talent...presense of mind and frostfire is what i do sometimes....like the blood beasts on saurfang
Probably the best tutorial video for any class/spec I've ever seen! Very nicely done.
i get you 5/5 stars for doing so a nice in depth tutorial. explaining what each talent does and why its worth it is awesome.
The best put together tutorial i have seen in a long while good work man.
Super clear and well done. I've been using this build lately. Thanks for explaining every aspect. Very well done. Please do part 3 and more. Maybe a Frostfire build Tutorial.
I studied arcane here and there and experimented, this video is 100% correct.
Gj
GREAT Tutorial for us arcane mages......it helped me so much!
When will be realised tutorial nr.2?? TY and greetings from Croatia...keep your GOOD work :P
ok, i'm really curious to see your next 2 video!
Good Job.

Well okay, you're right. I didn't notice the mana restoration part at all.. probably a better choice for ppl who need the mana.
@lmickpop +3 yd range are important I think. Slow has no benefit for me as an PvE raid mage, and I don't really need any more buffs for heroics.
Definitely in need of an updated video for 6.1
range s a passive dps, the less time you have running in, away, or to something the more dps you do, even if you save(only) 5 secs from this talent it is worth it because you have gotten 2 more arcane blasts off in that time rather than a 50% increase on 1 cast every 200 casts

Thanks mate. I'm going to build PvE arcane mage exactly the same as your tutorial shown :) 5/5
Great, just wanted everyone to be clear. Nice one.
@lust4moreblood You don't need slow or a frost mage, there are more kind of "slow" in this game provided by other classes (like I explained many times before and in the video too) - Slow is useless for PvE
i noticed a number of talents you skipped that seemed interesting.
could you make another video going over why you considered them skipable?
I love this video now I'm subscribing.
Excellent tutorial -
However, I should point out that at 1:23 you say that intellect increases sepll power; no it does not. It only increases spell crit chance and mana.
Cheers
could u give me some examples of slow or snared that can triger the efect of torment the weak?
@inika1000
Yeah I did xD
The problem is that I play on two different realms, with friends on each one of them. My mage is on the one that my "far-away" friends plays on, but in February there is a LAN-party in my area. If you take Mind Mastery into account, then it does increase spell power too.
thank you, i was leveling a mage ( frost), wanted to play arcane at 80, will try these info...
u should level as frost and when ur raiding go arcane.
I wouldent suppose you would have a fire mage tutorial?
What you think about hit the frost talent
[Frost Channeling].
And if this is possible where subtract points?
is this also a good way to lvl or is just to do raids with?
The thing is, you don't need frost channeling if you collect gear with spirit. Then you don't have to ask yourself where to subtract points ;-) There's no possibility to avoid a great dps loss when going deeper into the frost tree.
Do you think that arcane spec will have a future whitout t7 2piece bonus?
And what tipe of benefit arcane spec can recive from T8 4 piece Bonus?
I'm using AE for the scrapbots at XT, Blizzard for mobs which are dangerous to come near.. It doesn't make the best dmg but you don't have any other choice, do you?^^

Yes I'm not using the t7 2piece bonus by myself anymore. T8 4piece bonus is crap for arcane, but there's way better gear available in Ulduar than t8.5
Hm... my Problem now ist that i want to play PvE AND PvP .... And in pvp i need the arcan stability talent and the slowing talent. and i think the Glyph for Evocation is very important too. Which Glyph would you delete and are the Frost talents really important or can i use the stability and slowing talents instead? btw i remember there was a talent for the invivibility too. hi i have a lvl 28 mage fire talent is it worth going to arcane now or should i wait a bit till i have more points
im noob in world of warcraft and i just started playing. I need help with the talents and spells. Should i buy only spells that are arcane or i should buy em all. And i want to be arcane/frost mage. Can u explain shortly
Thanks
Could somone explain to me what are the good points with each talent ?
fire, frost,arcane
@zonda1991 That sure is true. I have a lvl 72 Frost Mage. In The Nexus the other day I was in a group with another Mage. He told me Arcane was the best for PvE. I said that I thought it was Frost? I'm gonna make a new Mage that is going to be a PvE Mage, what spec should I choose?
@Pr0d00d You won't use any, other raid-members will.
every sy that spirit suks by mage but why ??? plz help
Does it make a huge difference if I use this build for the latest patch?
why should i have torment weak talent?
why wouldnt u
incanters absorption > student of the mind
and
frost warding > ice shards
hey guys,at pvp what is better, arcane, fire,or frost mage?
pls tell me the song name pls!!!
I'm still working on it.. part 2 will contain much more information, thus it needs more time. Besides, I'm pretty busy with university issues atm. Maybe it's done this weekend, but you shouldn't take it for granted ;-)
Slow is a must-have for Arcane PvP.
Yeah, you need arcane stability for sure.u need to spend 4 points there so with the aura of paladins u have like 100% reduced pushback suffering when u cast missiles or arcane blast.(e.g see mimiron fights)
Ok but what about AOE fights like xt or freya?
PoM+Flamestrike is ok but the blizzard take alot of mana and make a crap damage... :(
Try mage fever. Works Excellent for the showing of proc's.
This was when Arcane was HARD to play. in the ICC days it became easy to play Arcane but in 3.0.9 patch it was very difficult to play it right and not go oom
whats the song's name?
I didn't mention anything about the survival. With Frost warding any boss which has fire/frost raid-wide damage means unlimited mana for me.
can you make a vifd on how to make this kind of vid so i can make some guides that is as cool as this :D?
What about frost?
Like I said, with the right gear you can spam out Arcane Blast like crazy and you won't get oom once even in a 13 minutes Yogg-Saron fight. Of course you cannot just spam AB without thinking, but for an arcane mage, the only reason why you are in the raid is because you have to pull insane dps.. you're not a supporter like a fire mage and have to compensate for this.
That glyph increases the crtical by A LOT.
You can use mana pots instead of a big mana gem..... Its not so expensive....
This i so helpful! :) thanks!
How much are you hitting for?
well i guess pretty much everything in arcane tree could be mentioned
i know that the "slow" talent probably has only minor raid application at best.
Mage or a priest are the hardest classes to level for me.. But they are the best in the end.. So its worth it..
Thanks for puttin this up man coz i got a lvl 36 mage that will switch to arcane when he gets 60 atm hese frost because its the best way to lvl, i'm looking for to getting to lvl 60 and then changin to "Arcane" and then getting to lvl 80 so i can pwn in random heroics and raids man tyvm for the video though i might change a little of the talents xD My charactors name is Zarathanax and hese on Nagrand.

its good but where is your rotation
Yes the hitcap for spells is 17% but for arcane mages its 11% due to 2 of their talents they get
awesome awesome video! 5/5
Well, what else spell would you suggest for using as an arcane mage? Arcane Blast is the main ability and 90% of your dmg depend on this spell. i might have to ask you a few questions in the next couple of days recently my guild rerolled horde and i made a mage so ill have some questions ;)
This is great
Most of the arcane talents are pvp only talents. Incanters absorption, counterspell, mana shield, slow and such things.. the others are just not efficient/useful enough and don't provide for synergy effects.
Isn't that talent tree a normal 57/3/11?

yeah that spec is very cool
i agree i dont need a PVE guide i need a PVP guide because my pvp build is awsome but if it needs imporvement ide like to see what is best
@zonda1991 grats on having both of your comments as highest rated
quartz
mage fever or power auras
maybe dhud2
Watch carefully what I've written in the tutorial about torment of the weak ;-)
Chris Lake - Only one
we want video 3! btw, gj.
I think it will be within the next days. It's way more difficult to explain than the talent part :-)
@Fr13dN3wb Fire meh not really good for lvling i THINK that fire is just for more damage while frost is more defensive and a nice little damage there if you put all 3/3 into shatter 50% crit hit while target frozen baby
lol really thanks for guide it really helped =D
only 40-300? im a 77 mage right now and mine hit for 1k with 1200sp
Even though we are all waiting for rotations vid to come out... we all do know basically the basic and most common rotation. But hey maybe you might teach us something new!
I could explain it if you tell me which talents are interesting for you. Would be much easier this way ;-)
arcane mages main moves are arcane shit but dont be afraid to throw out a frostfire or frostbolt if u want ti slow someone and not waste a point in that specific talent...presense of mind and frostfire is what i do sometimes....like the blood beasts on saurfang
