Thanks for this, very helpful. I don’t have a space in the ceiling to crawl into because we have a flatter roof, but I was able to assemble and install it from underneath. I swear the gap left me with 0.001mm of room to play with but i got it in there! :)
Glad it was helpful! Top job
Excellent video 👍👏👏
Thanks for the visit
Best to test any draught stopper device with the fan off the ceiling to ensure fan stopper opens sufficiently with fan running. I always fit a separate 2way or 3 way (if permanent live feed) electrical isolator for the fan(s) as I don't always need fan on with the light, this would also allow me to replace fan without turning light power off.
Eight years after handover of our house we experienced a mouse invasion. I found the flaps in these plastic draught excluders had all sagged, leaving a gap of about 10mm in the centre. The mice found the gap a convenient point of entry. I put a cage on top of each fan outlet and I am now looking for a metal version of the draught excluder.
sad to say I've only seen plastic but may be a more industrial supplier has a metal version
I can't find these at my hardware anymore. I have already installed several in the ceiling ,no problems. We are having extractor fans installed in our church for Covid19 risk reduction. The roof had asbestos flashing removed but I would like to keep any movement down from the ceiling to a minimum.😷
Understand completely. I wonder if they are still making them. They are an Aussie invention. I'll follow up.
Pity they only make it in one size. We have a small exhauat fan and the space where the fan is there isnt much room for the standard size draught stopper
Why extract into loft? You will cause moisture in the loft? Also seems a lot of light coming through your tiles. Yes huge draughts coming through extractor fans.. i really need to block but direct duct out system needed.
The loft in Australia is completely open to the elements so wind howls through most of them. It would be a different matter in a sealed and insulated loft area.
Fans should not vent directly into an attic because mosture will accumulate there. Fans should vented through a pipe up through the roof, and to the outside. In which case the DraughtStoppa would not be the right device to use.
You are right ...but unfortunately lots of extractor fans do vent into roof spaces. Luckily they are mostly pretty draughty as well so condensation no a huge issue unless theres lots of steamy air going up the extractor fan.
Most houses of Australia have ducts up to a vent in the roof
What is the other solution I need to go with my 3in one bathroom extraction fan???
The 'tastics'3 in one units are often bigger than this unit but if this unit does fit over it you will need to make a little platform for the draftstoppa to fit on to raise it above the lights. It's necessary to get a sparkie to change the wiring so that the fan switches on when the lights are on so as to ensure enough air-flow and to minimise fire risk as the plastic is not fire-rated and those heat-lamps can get stinking hot. You can also get a whole unit, with the draught-stopping unit attached. I think it's called an 'eco-tastic'.
YOU CAN WEAR SAFTEY GLASSES AS WELL JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT GET DUST ALL OVER THAT FLOOR
Now those sun beams shining through over your head, are they cracks in your roof?!
No ... it's a tile roof so light under tiles.
Where is the video on halogen? :)
Lost the puff but getting onto it again soon.
Any solutions to fix that non air tight roof? All that light coming in must not be a good sign.
I tend to focus on the airtightness of the house as sealing up the entire roof space would be too big for one GIY job ... so do the box first, rather than the triangle. And don't buy one of those whirly bird roof 'ventilators'!
@@GIYGreenItYourself great tips thanks! Have you looked into heat recovery ventilation systems? We might be looking into getting one for our reno.
Just letting you know that fan is going to drop it’s blade
Thanks .
@@GIYGreenItYourself you will have replace it soon
you can wear a mask for this
Agree - trap for young players early in my videos.
Dare stoppers can over heat your exhaust fan motor and then your exhaust fan will stop working
Thanks Mitchell, I haven't heard of this happening but will follow up with the company.
Hi Mitchell, I'll follow up on this to see if this is a regular problem.
Mitchell Collins is lying it doesn’t do anything to the fan
