Welcome to my Channel,
My name is James and I live full time in my tiny van, however this is not just a van life channel. I enjoy travel, food and drink and making videos 🙂
When I turned 50 I decided I’d had enough of the rat race and working long hours just to pay rent and bills, life was passing me by and I needed a drastic change.

Where is Helen?
Helen has a responsible full time job and two children so unfortunately she can’t join me on every trip. I really wish she could.
What equipment do you use?
My vlogging camera is a GoPro Hero 9 but I also use my pixel 6a phone and Lumix G80 camera for other footage
For editing, I used Premiere Pro on an old laptop but I’m saving to buy a more powerful computer.
Do you have children?
Yes I have a 6yr old daughter who lives with her mum but I see her quite a lot. I don’t usually put her on the vlogs and if I do, I block out her face for privacy reasons. I also have a grown up son.
How do you fund your lifestyle?
I don’t need as much to live these days since going full time van life but I receive a small percentage of income from the ads that UA-cam put on the videos.

Thanks for this, it really touched cos my Dad had open heart surgery and cancer scare and Mum is getting frail and last time I saw them both together it struck me how the people I thought were immortal who'd always there to look after me and now I am the one who has to look after them. Mum is not too bad slow on her feet but her memory is not great.
I'm sorry to hear that mate, I love spending time with my parents and feel lucky to have them both as many of my friends have lost theirs.

What a lovely family you can feel the love there. Do your parents live in the caravan permanently because I think you took us to your mum's garden once and that was a bungalow. Really enjoyed the trip to Filey what a lovely place. Thank you for a very enjoyable video.

I'm glad you're going to look after your Mum. It's a bit of a cliche but parents looked after us so now it's our turn. It's not going to be easy though Steven, if I could give you some advice, it would be to have something to do that's just for you. My Dad has vascular dementia and I've been his full time carer for a decade now. The first few years were hard, I lost a lot of friends as I had to decline most invitations so people stop asking eventually. Long story short - I joined a pop choir four years back and it's I don't think it's overly dramatic to say - it saved my sanity. It's soul destroying watching the person you love disappearing bit by bit, so if you have an outlet that's just for *you* - it can work wonders. Lovely channels like James' are little rays of sunshine too - I live vicariously through them when they go on their trips, I hope I'm still young enough when the time comes to visit all those places for real. Sorry this is such a long comment!

Make sure you take all the help you can you need regular brakes l think there are carers centres all over the country get in touch with your local one. They are a mind of information and support. I hope things go as well as possible for you.

The local cancer trust kindly paid for my mum&other sufferer's to have a holiday in Filey,it was the last one she had before she passed.So this vlog gets a thumbs up from me👍.

Hi James, I live in Filey in rented accommodation until 9th March then I’m going full time van life due to ridiculous increase in rent. I’ve commented with that before I think.
Out of towners have already snapped up a massive amount of property making it almost impossible for young people to remain in the area which is why it is known for its aging population. It is after all knock named ‘gods waiting room’. That said it is beautiful and I would have rather had stayed to be fair, but my salary has not kept pace with the cost of living.
The two bungalows nearest the lifeboat station (knocked through to one), sold for just over 1.5 million.
The sculpture in Filey is the sister sculpture to the one in Filey. They were originally both installed in Filey. But as always with these things Scarborough seeped in and pilfered from the Giley council tax payers (it’s an ongoing sore point).
The Filey Brigg campsite is very popular in summer but I have seen UA-cam reviews saying the facilities are outdated, and dirty with rude staff. I have no idea if that’s true or not.
The paddling pool is very popular in summer. Your little girl would love it for sure.
There’s a great deal of history surrounding Foley bay involving sunken warships, German U boats (sunken) but visible on a good day (so I’m told), flying clubs that used to take off from the sandy beach.
It is said that Filey has been one of the oldest, if not ‘the’ oldest holiday resorts in the UK.
I think I saw my campervan up the Brigg in the background of the vid too lol
In winter there’s a lovely light show in the park you went too, again something your little one would enjoy.
The beach at Filey is as good as anywhere else in Europe on a nice hot summers day.
You should have gone to Inghams for Fish n chips (oof so good). That said looking at that portion I think you must have ordered a sack of tatties n a whale. Wow. Right out of ten, I’ll go there next time I reckon.
I like your mums taste in UA-cam channels too.
Loved this video so much. Lost my dad 5 years ago and miss him so much. Mums health has declined so significantly she’s in a care home . To see you guys enjoying each others company like this is pure gold!! Never underestimate it.

@@bythecurb not sure where you’re thinking about but take a look at Torrox Pueblo for a genuine experience of life in Spain. It’s an hour from Malaga airport going east towards Nerja. I’d be happy to collect you both and bring you here. Malaga city is an awesome place that viewers would love. We also have miles of seafront. Torrox is an interesting place in its own right but there are buses heading to other villages and large towns. It really is a hidden gem. We also, of course, enjoy the ‘best climate in Europe’. Love this, my mother in law lived in Filey till she died in 2022. We used to visit her every week and get fish and chips from Brown’s, she loved them. We used to go for a walk round the town, holding everybody up with her walker, reminded me of your Dad pottering along, bless them!

Hi James lovely family vlog. Congrats on 40K you deserve it. I worked at Butlins in Filey when I was 20, great fun. Just recently I was sitting on a seafront bench eating a sarnie and a seagull swooped in from behind bashed my shoulder and stole my sarnie. At first I thought I was being mugged 🤣🤣🤣. Well I guess I was by a seagull 😩. Peace 🧚

Had to laugh at your comment about the Golden Child lol - My daughter always says my son is the golden child 🤣 She says he can do no wrong. We also love Filey as its less commercialised than Scarborough and have stayed at Browns caravan site near Cayton Bay a few times. The park in Summer in Filey where the cafe was closed is beautiful when all the flowers are blooming and is got lots of benches to just sit and watch the world go by - God I'm only 56 but sound so old lol - you are certainly so lucky to have both parents and you cherish them just as much as I did mine. Hope they have settled into their new way of life at the coast, I'm sure it will be a great success especially in Summer time. I also like to watch Northerners on Tour like your mum does 😃

My hubbys sister lives at Filey. They live on Rutland St & also have a 5 bed rental house. Their daughter owns Filey Veterinary 😊 we love going at Easter for the food festival, pain in arse the drive from Barnsley with bank hol travel but it’s a lovely place 😊

Well that's us taking a trip to Filey with the mother in law. We're from Cleethorpes but just love the seaside resorts on the East Coast. By the way your Mum was eating a Fish Pattie as we call them, 2 scallops of potato with fish in the middle. Just love watching you and Helen enjoying life , my hubby just looks at me when Helens eyeing up the next pub to go in or I'm hungry at the end of the night. First starting watching from your first trip to Benidorm and haved loved everything since then. Keep on making us giggle and giving us ideas where to go next. Ashyea and Alan🍻🍻🍻
