When it comes to riffs, Ola Englund & Keith Merrow are the men to beat, imo. The main-riffs of Feared's ”Lords Resistance Army” & Conquering Dystopia's ”Destroyer of Dreams” are both god-tier. ”LRA” is a simple, but heavy & groovy af accompaniment, and ”DoD” establishes the theme for the whole song. Merrow in general has a very unique approach in that way, that I didn't find anywhere else yet.
Man I hadn’t really listened to wintersun in probably 15 years or maybe even longer. I forgot just how killer that intro riff/song is. It really is perfect. I need to revisit that one.
5 of my favorites: Ratt - Lay it down Armored Saint - For the sake of heaviness Trouble - The Tempter Megadeth - We'll be back Every Mothers Nightmare - Walls come down
I always loved the riff you used when demoing pedals back in the day. If you used more than one, I’m really talking about that one I’m thinking about. You know; that one.
Three of my favs that I recently realized all have a similar structure. 1. Into the Void intro riff 2. Raining Blood main riff 3. Cemetery Gates chorus riff Also gotta be that guy and hit ya with the "uhm actually 🤓" but Wintersun tuned to D standard for that album
Learned guitar with Metallica songs back in the day. What other kind of picking is there besides down??? I guess there's the "save it for special occasions" tremolo, for songs like Dyer's Eve or Disposable Heroes. 😄
I hear so many great loved classic rock and metal with 8 bars of riff, 8 more with another instrument coming in and then another 8 getting more intense before any vocal or overt top line that makes me chuckle thinking how you would smash that gong. I think the whole experience of you reacting as you encounter a song in this format is perhaps more of a determining factor in your interest level. I believe you are being 100% genuine. Maybe this the reaction video format puts pressure on the patience-o-meter. Super fun to watch. Waiting patiently for you to destroy mine. It will be fun to watch! Submitted in November.
Wintersun! 🤘 Such a great album. Off the top of my brains if i had to pick 5 fav riffs: Perry Mason - Ozzy 2 minutes to midnight - Maiden I don't believe in love - Queensryche River dragon - Nevermore Jenny - Nothingmore
My favs are (in no particular order except one): -In Flames - Cloud Connected, -Dire Straits - Money for Nothing, -Judas Priest - Hellrider, -In Flames - Meet you Maker chorus riff, -Children of Bodom - Downfall - that intro riff..., -my ultimate top 1 - Iron Maiden - Caught Somewhere in Time
My favorite riffs.... Well, gonna go with Crazy Train, The Trooper (either the intro or the main rythm riff with the gallop) and the intro to Forever by skid row. And I guess to play Invisible Monster from Dream Theater. That flat 5 interval following the add9 chord is juice.
That album is so damn good. I love that riff too. Winter sun is sweet. I really like a lot of the riffs on the slayer album, seasons in the abyss. Blood red is one of my favorite intro riffs on that album. They use a harmony with two guitars which i like alot as well. One guy plays a couple octaves higher with the same notes or close too. Angel of death when he goes into the catchy riff is a nice one i can think of too. Tornado of souls intro, which i learned how to play! by megadeth. Its not that hard to learn/play but it still sounds hard to play. I like these riffs cause they use nice melodies of notes but are metal sounding heavy riffs. Skeletons of society by slayer is a fun and easy riff that sounds nice as well.
The main riff in metallicas battery is one of my all time favorites for the galloping chugs with the chords make it so melodic yet brutal. I also love the opening riff from BTBAMs selkies for the open strings it has throughout the riff.
Killswitch Engage “Breathe Life” because they figured out how to take a sick opening riff and modulate it under a verse. Satyricon “The Wolfpack” because it’s the best Black ‘N Roll riff ever written and is deceptively hard to play while sounding very simple and melodic.
lol so do I! I’m pretty sure he would not be favourable, all the new Metallica leaves me colder than a nuns tit. Big fan up until and including hardwired, but this new album is so by the numbers and boring/uninspired.
@@user-yk4gd1fl4z I'm glad I'm not the only one, it's been a rough ride for their new stuff. I stop after the black album but always give em a listen to see if it grows on me
I like em classic and funky, led zeppelin’s Moby dick always be a favourite of mine and anti gravity love song from incubus is IMO the sexiest riff ever.
Hey Trey. I watch a lot of your videos and agree with you about music theory and structure. I think a great hook makes a song. I am a Christian and enjoy your breakdowns, though I may not agree with everything. I would love to see you do a reaction video to the band Disciple and their new song Executioner. they are a Christian band, but everything in the song highlights all the points you continuously make. The lyrics also draw you into the music. Now I know your thinking "Christian"? Yep, but don't let that turn you away from it. Give it an honest chance. ua-cam.com/video/yivhMjlFKfA/v-deo.html
What are your favorite riffs and why?
Not sure it super riffy, but the guitar riff from APC- Judith, gets me every time.
the riff from slayer but gayer by rectal smegma
Erotomania and Gaudy cross are great riffs

Any of the riffs from Rose of Sharyn by Killswitch Engage

Still so goddamn good
Nothing like being a the front of the pit when they blast that tune!
Same here. You brought back memories of listening to this song with my brother
Loved that you included one of TBDM’s most underrated songs.
5 of my favorites:
Ratt - Lay it down
Armored Saint - For the sake of heaviness
Trouble - The Tempter
Megadeth - We'll be back
Every Mothers Nightmare - Walls come down
Was very stoked to see you included DT's "Erotomania."
But my favorite riff ever has to be the wah riff in the intro of DT's "The Glass Prison."
That's also a good one!
I always loved the riff you used when demoing pedals back in the day. If you used more than one, I’m really talking about that one I’m thinking about. You know; that one.
Yes I know the one, also a good one!

There are so many great riffs writers out there. James Hetfield, Chuck Schuldiner, Eric Peterson, Anders Björler, Jari Mäenpää...

I’m always moving the bass line as well. It really enhances a riff that could otherwise be boring.
These new constant TED Talks, are so comforting 🤓🍻🤘
Bro your sound is so sick!
Do you have any recording, mixing and mastering tutorials?
Impatiently Waiting for your reaction to new metallica song, hopefully soon
This intro example riff was SICK
The new Avatar movie is a Riff Salad 👌
Thank you for another great video. I have learned so much from them.
Wintersun! 🤘 Such a great album. Off the top of my brains if i had to pick 5 fav riffs:

Great to hear good ol' Wintersun & ”Erotomania”, again.
3:32 way to confuse the hell out of a perfect pitch-ganger.
haha yeah sorry, I thought of saying not concert pitch but like, guitarists.
Awesome video dude
you are an amazing teacher
Thank you!

-In Flames - Meet you Maker chorus riff,
-Children of Bodom - Downfall - that intro riff...,

Those are good ones!
Hell yeah, Meet Your Maker is one of the coolest things to come out of modern metal ever
I don’t play but love watching these! I do drum, but that’s boring yet fun! Love playing drums!
Favorite riff is the solo in “Get it Faster” by Jimmy Eat World. Heavy and melodic!
I was not expecting the wintersun riff, god I worship that album haha.
Early Architects (Early Grave, Follow The Water, etc) made me fell in love with "riff" music even before i understand metal music lol. Riffs ARE sick
Sick that you included TBDM
After the Burial just dropped a 2 song EP and it is a masterclass on sick riffs.

Godamn. I hope Jari actually releases something soon. I miss Wintersun with burning passion.
Same
Mr Trey, Will will we be getting a reaction vid to Metallica’s new butt-Rock single? 🙏🏻
I always listen to Beyond the Dark Sun. It’s sooop good
The main riff in metallicas battery is one of my all time favorites for the galloping chugs with the chords make it so melodic yet brutal.

I've hit the gong a lot of times in this video
I wanted a 72 seasons reaction😢

Reaction: its hecking shite

IT'S boring. . . Not even worth a reaction, tbh.
That BDM song has same chord progression as They Say by Scars on broadway 😂
Riffs are better than sleep.🤘🤘
Beyond The Dark Sun starts. Aw, he chickened out before the sweeps. 😂
Sweeps are not a riff haha
@@treyxaviermusic I know. I was just curious if you were gonna do it anyway.
I mean I also can't play them hahaha
@@treyxaviermusic There are few who can.
Favourite riff? Hoo boy...
"Can of Worms" activated!
Literally anything by KSE.
Can I make you a custom fretwrap for your guitar 😊
Best riff ever is "Pour Some Sugar On Me".
Ok maybe not the BEST but it's right up there.
Every riff on Death - Symbolic is my favorite riff.
Jesus Christ Pose and Superunknown by Soundgarden because Cornell can make a melody topline sound great over anything in any time signature.
Riffs are far superior to solos in songs
I like em classic and funky, led zeppelin’s Moby dick always be a favourite of mine and anti gravity love song from incubus is IMO the sexiest riff ever.
Good times, bad times is my fav Zeppelin riff 💪
Today I found out that I am infact, Trey's mom.
When are you reacting to 72 seasons Metallica song? 😂
Hey tray can you react to the new song 72 seasons by Metallica

Metallica posted a new song. Let the gong react!
too much annoying gimmicks man ! Is that really necessary ? It really distracts from the POI. Cheers.
Riff salad however....🤢🤮
Too much of a good thing haha
RIFFS ARE NOT A SONG!!!
GONG!!!
