    Thanks for making this video! It gave me the confidence to replace my steering rack in my 2016 Frontier 4WD without removing the final drive. I followed your example but I found it easier to work the rack out through the passenger side and install the same way. I was also able to leave the bracket mount in place that you had removed. Once again thank you!

    Hey Duke. If a lil old cotter pin gave you that much trouble, you best stay down south. LOL
    Side cutters all the way, pinch and pull against the heel of the tool. Nice Job. Thanks for sharing.

    great job. Im about to swap in a rack from a another car. My top seal is leaking pretty bad. so plan is to fit new rack and fix my old one. with the final drive if you just removed the rack from the other side wouldn't the diff pumpkin not be n the way?

    Thanks for the video. I just replaced mine today after watching. Taking off the hard lines on the rack helped get it out and the new one in. The rest was just as you said.

    When did you disconnect the steering column from the rack?

    If you pull the coilover can you avoid dropping the final drive? It also looks like the front diff isn't supported by the jack or anything in the end - did you just let it hang? I'm a bit nervous about pulling the CVs by accident.

    • @dukesgarage3057
      @dukesgarage3057  Рік тому

      You can try just pulling the coilover and see if you have room. I was feeling my way through the job and its possible that dropping the front diff was unnecessary. Yes, I had the front diff unsupported at one point, not recommended. Be sure to use jackstands and take your time. If you have decent selection of tools, getting to the point of pulling the steering rack should take an hour or so...especially if you can avoid dropping the front diff.

      @@dukesgarage3057 thanks for the response. We've had a few seized bolts and lacked a breaker bar so it's taken a little longer.
      Any tips on the steering pinion? We've loosened off that 13mm(?) but it's not coming out. Anywhere to brace it or anything you might suggest?

      @@christophersnow5578 Are you saying that you pulled the bolt but the clamp isn't coming off? You have to unscrew the bolt all the way out to get the clamp free (as I recall). If the bolt is out and things are still stuck, you can take a long extension and put it under the clamp, then tap the extension from the bottom with a hammer to try to encourage the clamp to come off the steering rack pinion. Also try shooting some PB Blaster on there to get things loosed up.

      @@dukesgarage3057 We got it out and got the new one in.
      To confirm, we had to drop the diff like you did to make space. Getting it back up was a pain but all is well that ends well. We also pulled the coil overs out.
      I have some intermittent noise from the steering pump and the steering isn't smooth. I'm guessing air in the lines. Did you bleed your system? I took it on a short drive and there were bubbles in the reservoir but not resolved when I parked, so I'll probably have a mechanic do a once over if I can't find anything online.

    • @dukesgarage3057
      @dukesgarage3057  Рік тому

      @@christophersnow5578 I'm glad you got everything back together. You really need a big jack to manage the front diff comfortably. Regarding the noise from the pump, turn on the truck, top off the reservoir with new fluid and cut the wheel left and right (to lock out in each direction). This will push the fluid through the system and force the air bubbles out. I believe I show this step at the end of the video. If the fluid is too high after performing this procedure, use a syringe to syphon some out. You can find syringes at your local walgreens or cvs.

    Are the 2 mounting bushings on the rack removable? Can't find the bushings aftermarket. Nissan doesn't carry them.
