Why don't you try building one then, if they're so stupid and low-tech? Maybe even one that's autonomous, and so is an actual robot. And after you fail spectacularly, you can give a revised assessment of the level of skill required to build a successful combat robot.

They are robots made from hobbyists. This class of robots are called Robo-One.
These robots are mostly built from parts from a company called Kondo.
