Its a good effort... Much love from an Aussie... I love Celine but its like the soul of Your the voice is missing... There is a fire to the song that makes something inside burn brighter then a star. Think of any situation where you have struggled and let yourself FEEL your spirit come alive. This is the peoples voice... Its OUR VOICE! Sing your heart and soul out.
The original tone was kind of low for Celine, that's why I think she doesn't sound so powerful, despite her incredible voice. Still I loved her recognition to John and of course the song that is an anthem of música.

I saw the video of them singing together in Melbourne. You could see how excited she was to perform it with John. And in Australia she didn't have to teach the crowd the melody.. :)
Yeah, how good would it be if everyone could outdo the original. The fact she couldn't match Johns version is a testament to how great he is. And does not diminish the fact that she is also a great singer. Think about it mate.

I don’t think the audience would have heard all the words. It would have been more powerful for them if the words were displayed on the screen. It is a truely inspirational song.
Perfection? That would be Chris "the voice" Thompson. Farnham scatters wrong notes all over the place, including an appalling run of 9 consecutive wrong notes in "the barrel of a gun" which just sucks the life out of Chris's awesome song. Once you hear Chris sing it, you realize how Farnham cheated the world out of what the song could have been.

@@josephwisniewski3673 Eek, just listened to them all, Chris Thompson is the only one who came close, but great as his voice was (and I'll admit, I didn't realise it was so good - I've only heard his speaking voice before), it's not better than John's live performances. The others are all horribly generic. So some 15 year old girl can sing in tune, well done to her, there's more to giving a great performance than that.

There's a lot of gesturing, especially through "down the barrel of a gun" that people use to add emphasis where the song flounders because Farnham missed nine notes in a row. When it's sung the way Chris Thompson wrote it (preferably by Chris "the voice" Thompson himself) that line hits hard without you having to flail your arms around to signal "Here it is! This part's important!"

I just watched Celine sing this with John when he was 69. She has always said she was his number one fan and she gave him so much respect. It was emotional and funny, like two fans meeting one of their favourite singers. I think they both forgot they are famous.
I like how this song is rediscovered and realised it’s incredible beauty decades later. Was used inspirationally in the movie Hot Rod. It is indeed an anthem here in Australia.
i love the way she enjoy the company of her fans, taking time for them and be part of her concert not just to finish her concert then go. i think its herkey for a successful career to stay grounded and always acknowledge those people who put her from where she is now.
I'd love to see Celine Dion and John Farnham do a duet of this. One of the best songs ever. Two amazing singers with awesome and truly powerful voices.
Celine did an interview with tracy grimshaw and jokingly said she would love to do a duet with John Farnham when she visits Australia. This comment started the wheels in motion and you can view on youtube Celine and Farnsey meeting and their duet at the Melbourne concert.

As a Australian who has seen John Farnham in concert do this song many times, i can say very good try canada...though john ALWAYS HIRES A LOCAL WHO PLAYS BAGPIPES for the part where the flute was played. otherwise,im impressed. well done celine

The song has four people on the writing credits but was mainly written by a friend of mine, Chris Thompson, (who used to do studio vocal sessions for me in London and who was a lead vocalist along with me in the Alan Parsons Band back in the mid 1990s). Maggie Ryder another session singer who did studio vocal sessions for me in London also had writing input. I last saw Maggie in New York in 1995 after our final gig at the Beacon Theatre on the Alan Parsons Band's American tour that year. Chris also moved to New York from London shortly after. We actually did this song on that tour with Chris singing lead vocals.

This is a good rendition of the song but Celine had a cold that night so it wasn’t as good as when she performed it in Australia. If you want to hear a better cover of the song try Swedish singer Loreen and her cover recently from late 2021. It’s Amazing!
Its a good effort... Much love from an Aussie... I love Celine but its like the soul of Your the voice is missing... There is a fire to the song that makes something inside burn brighter then a star. Celine had a cold that night. Her voice wasn't at her best, but she has the discipline to keep the show going.
The original tone was kind of low for Celine, that's why I think she doesn't sound so powerful, despite her incredible voice. Still I loved her recognition to John and of course the song that is an anthem of música.
John Farnham is now in his early 70's and and can still hit the same vocal range he could in his 30's. That's a rare talent!
John’s vocal range is bloody crazy. His transitions from chest voice to high head voice is something I’ll forever be amazed by.
I saw him in December of 2019 and yes he still sounds fantastic!

Perfection? That would be Chris "the voice" Thompson. @@josephwisniewski3673 Eek, just listened to them all, Chris Thompson is the only one who came close, but great as his voice was (and I'll admit, I didn't realise it was so good - I've only heard his speaking voice before), it's not better than John's live performances.
The others are all horribly generic. So some 15 year old girl can sing in tune, well done to her, there's more to giving a great performance than that.

There's a lot of gesturing, especially through "down the barrel of a gun" that people use to add emphasis where the song flounders because Farnham missed nine notes in a row. When it's sung the way Chris Thompson wrote it (preferably by Chris "the voice" Thompson himself) that line hits hard without you having to flail your arms around to signal "Here it is! This part's important!"

I just watched Celine sing this with John when he was 69. She has always said she was his number one fan and she gave him so much respect. It was emotional and funny, like two fans meeting one of their favourite singers. I think they both forgot they are famous.

I like how this song is rediscovered and realised it’s incredible beauty decades later. Was used inspirationally in the movie Hot Rod. It is indeed an anthem here in Australia.
i love the way she enjoy the company of her fans, taking time for them and be part of her concert not just to finish her concert then go. i think its herkey for a successful career to stay grounded and always acknowledge those people who put her from where she is now.

The song has four people on the writing credits but was mainly written by a friend of mine, Chris Thompson, (who used to do studio vocal sessions for me in London and who was a lead vocalist along with me in the Alan Parsons Band back in the mid 1990s). Maggie Ryder another session singer who did studio vocal sessions for me in London also had writing input. I last saw Maggie in New York in 1995 after our final gig at the Beacon Theatre on the Alan Parsons Band's American tour that year. Chris also moved to New York from London shortly after.
We actually did this song on that tour with Chris singing lead vocals.

This is a good rendition of the song but Celine had a cold that night so it wasn’t as good as when she performed it in Australia. If you want to hear a better cover of the song try Swedish singer Loreen and her cover recently from late 2021. It’s Amazing!
