Honestly, the set doesn't matter. I appreciate the honesty and simplicity you offer. You have improved greatly since the first video with your delivery. I do like the set up today and the lights behind the bottles. Maybe just cut the glare right above your face some. I appreciate your hard work and your channel.
Hey Jon, great review of those two heavy hitters plus a bonus Signatory Ben Nevis. The net set and lighting seems to come along nicely. I have that Glenallachie 10 batch 8 CS so your impromptu shoot on it will help when I open it. As for the Glendronach 10 CS, I wish I got a bottle about a year ago as it is a hard bottle to get now. Whoa, first half of the video playing on 78, then easing down to 45 😂...can tell you're on summer break and having fun! Like the new angle and set up, but you're catching some sort of circular light (from the camera?) in your specs. Which, by the way, you share with extremely fine company if I do say so myself 🤓 Have had none of these drams, though I'd be drifting towards that Ben Nevis if I got the chance. Hi Jon. That Glendronach is amazing! I prefer the darker lighting, it has a more cozy feel, than what you use for the Ben Nevis take. Also it might be difficult, but if you could position yourself so the shelfs seem more symmetrical and lead the eyes towards you, when we follow their lines, I think it would work very well. (Coming from a guy that would just plunk the camera down on any crooked old tree available😉)
@sowlegwhiskyreview5501 good advice. I'm struggling with the layout. Symmetrical brings me back to what I had. I want to add some distance and I can't find it in this basement!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Yeah, it is difficult to create depth, if you don't have a lot of room to do it. I see some channels trying to three-layer the picture: Putting the bottle up very close as a foreground, position themselves in the middle ground and put in a colored/blurred light somewhere in the back to increase the background effect. I don't think it works wonders though. I hope you come up with something you like🙂
Hey Jon, I might be in minority here, but I liked the previous setup more. The framing and the soft lighting was more to my liking. But to be honest, setup doesn't matter that much. Keep up great work 👍 Cheers
I like the set up Jon, looks lighter. This is a good comparison but they're both so very batch variant it's hard to make a decision. Though in my opinion the lates batches of Glendronach have been falling short whereas the Glen Allachie plays between good and great. Cheers 🥃
Love your set and videos Jon!! You have a fabulous channel and you are such an interesting reviewer! I learn a lot!! I just came in from a lovely walk in St. Albert!! The heat isn’t humid! Much easier to tolerate than Vancouver!! Not sure if Kingsmeade Crescent means anything but that’s where I am!! These are very interesting bottle kills!! 😊
Glad you are here, and the heat is easier to take. Dry heat/Dry cold, not a bad place to live in. What do you think of the change in the set though. It's small, but I pushed out farther from the wall. Changed the light too, but I'm going to change again.
You could shoot your videos in the dark, and by "dark" I mean 0% visibility for us viewers, and I'd watch ... or listen. I hate to be no help with your setting, but I've enjoyed all of them. Your nook has become like Ralfy's bothy and Roy Duff's desk thing and the Scotch Test Dummies two sets in my mind: iconic. Great review (I need both of those bottles :) ).
I think it’s the glendronach for me based on your notes although I’m not sure whether I’d go for this or the 15 year. Haven’t tried either but I did love the abunah so perhaps I’d reach for this CS also. The set looks great Jon, especially your wife’s gift on the wall, that barrel lid is so cool, cheers!
These are both excellent Scotch. I haven't had the 15 for years, but it was a favourite when it was around! Thanks for the encouragement on the set. Just trying different angles or depths. I don't have that much to work with down here! Cheers!
Hi! I tried both 15 and CS. If you can find Glendronach 15 from the Billy Walker era, it is really good. However recent release of 15 is disappointing. If you can find the Batch 9 or 10 of GlenDronach CS, go for it!
