I’m 14 and I’ve been watching this guy since I was 13 and the reason I started in the first place is because I’ve seen what bad money management can do to a person or family first hand and I don’t wanna put my family if I have one through that and I also don’t want to worry about it either
I appreciate that even though Dave is a strong Evangelical he is still able to cut off these "ill just pray and God will fix all my problems" people and bring them back to reality.
We have two Toyota Camrys. Each one has over 300,000 mi on it. We got them both for free, one from a friend and one from my husband's mother after they both passed away. They still run like a dream and purr like a kitten. No car payments is heaven!
Bought a 97 civic for $4k at 80k miles 12 years ago. Spent around $1k in repair parts and $20 per oil changes (I'm a DIYer) over the years. Currently it's running at 200k miles.
Just recently sold my perfectly running high millage vehicle it had 252xxx on it and regret selling it for my newer actually older lower millage vehicle with 247xxx on it😂. People who complain about 100xxx cmon get real that is practically new still.
Worrying about 100,000 miles on a car that is still running well seems crazy. My car is at 206,000 and I expect to own it 3 more years. A $1000 repair or even 2 of them is a lot more manageable than car payments.
My Tahoe has 119000 miles on it and runs like a dream. I’ve kept up routine maintenance on it. It’s given me no trouble. I feel like I’ve just gotten it broken in😄
I'm at 283k on my Ford Escape. A/C has been only issue. I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. I'm saving to get it detailed so I feel like it is a new car!
My mechanic (who sells a few used cars on the side) asks about if we've thought more about a new car every time we have any little issue. Told him we can walk to work so we'll wait til the cars (2010 and 2009) completely die to decide if we even want another one lol. He always sounds surprised, so I assume he gets a lot of people wanting a new one before the car's even in its last legs
1:05:56 For Denise in Ohio...😢 I was you so much your letter gave me chills! Seek counsel. Stand by your ultimatum. Stay strong as you move forward. I just filed for divorce this week. I am praying for you. ❤️
It’s best to get out if ppl aren’t willing to change. I was in the same situation as Denise and was married to that person for almost 20 yrs. Been divorced for 19 yrs and married another wonderful man 10 yrs ago and we are totally debt free including our mortgage. That never would have happened if I had stayed married to that person because today he’s still doing the same thing. Hold on things will get better. It’s hard at first but stick to your plan, trust God and you will be just fine.
Denise, this was also me! My first husband had a lot of extreme trauma. None of those things made him happy in the long run. We even did marriage counseling and separated the accounts. Sadly, he committed suicide. It was a tragedy, but I found out about financial infidelity and other addictions besides alcohol. I wish things turned out different, but I can not tell you the PEACE you feel when you're secure. I have remarried and am expecting another baby girl. I love my life and that I truly have a partner who is transparent with me and respects/values me.
I’m addicted to this show. As a trucker I spent too much time on the road so if I have to drive for 10 hours, I also listen to the show the entire shift.
100,000 miles is a very low mileage if the car is a Toyota or Honda. I just reached 100,000 miles on my tundra and it is still in phenomenal condition and looks brand new and it will last at least another 200,000 miles.
Really tough issue. "We're helping you by applying the rent you'll pay us, for a property you will likely own someday, and you're not okay with that?" I've seen this in a family where the older folks assumed everything would stay the same and it didn't. It was a family trust. The siblings at the parent level had a falling out in their co-owned business. I would wish that the older members of the family would not put the youngest generation in a position to have to balk at being set up for a possible loss if anything goes sideways. I would call it "shortsighted" but could call it "lame brained." If you want to help out your grandkids, testing them with "let's test their loyalty/trust" is not a good way. Because if the grandkid says "I don't want to put my earnings at risk, I have a family to think about" the outcome in the grandparents/parents could be predictable. 'miffed', 'what, you don't trust your parents and grandparents?' sort of reaction. It's putting the grandkids in a really, really unfair spot. .
My Sequoia is the same age as my youngest…18+ years! She’s got about 250k miles, has seen every type of sport equipment, hauled 8 million kids and dogs, and still carries us up the hill to ski. Just put in our 3rd timing belt. Hangin on as long as possible. 😅
Im also driving a first gen sequoia. 2007 with 250k on it. Never had one issue. Any Toyota with the 2uzfe is a great deal even today. You can get them for 7-10k with 200k on the clock and drive another 200k no problem
I had a first gen sequoia and miss it. It had 280k miles and the kid that bought it ran it out of coolant. He drove it home and overheated it so bad that it seized when he shut it off, the next morning after it cooled off he started and fixed the coolant leak. He drove it for a few months before he sold it still running great.
One lesson I've learnt from millionaires is to always put your money to work, and diversifying your investments. I'm planning to invest about $130k of my savings in stocks this year, and I hope I make profits.
I drive a 2001 chevy silverado. Right now it has roughly 284,000 miles on it. Its 60.4 miles round trip to my work. If i drive it one more year, which i truly believe it will make it that far and even past that, i will have a little over 300,000 miles on it. A 100,000 miles is nothing. If you take care of the car, it will last.
Yep, Dave really doesn't give the best car advice. My Tundra has 105,000 miles on it and is just now broken in. My dealer offered me what I paid for it
My 03 silverado has over 230k miles. My girlfriends 07 silverado has over 260k. Her moms 97 has well over 300k. We are just one big happy chevrolet family over here and none of us can see the need to replace our trucks lol
Dave just roasted me 27:20 I drive a 2004 dodge neon srt4 with 200k miles on it… and she drives awesome still lol… I’m in the process clearing up my debt and being debt free thanks for your amazing advice
2007 Honda - over 270,000 miles and still going strong with no major repairs - but I did choose a drive chain rather than a timing belt (has never been replaced yet!) Most I've spent so far was getting the sagging headliner replaced as my car is outside all the time and the sun is very strong here.
@@kenwilliams3279 🤣My 2007 Honda Accord - has never been garaged - paint job still perfect and almost no repairs other than routine oil checks and minor maintenance - 270,000 + miles!
@Trustbutverify2651 I had a 1999 Nissan wingroad (model name in NZ) 300000km. Bless it. Started to become uneconomical to repair unfortunately. Got little Kia Rio now. Had 20 miles on it
I Love this show, watch it daily since March 2023 and have paid off about $35,000 in debt so far between my husband and I. But it bothers me so much that they never talk about saving for closing costs when buying a home! Additionally to Baby Step 3 and a healthy down payment, there’s an extra $8K-16K in closing costs alone. Why is this never talked about?
@@TH0KH that’s the thing- I may be interpreting it wrong, but to me it sounds like some may not be aware. Whenever I hear first-time home buyers calling the show they always mention their 3-6 month emergency fund and the down payment. I just once heard someone say they had some extra saved for closing costs.
Maybe because the closing costs can vary based on each property. Depending on your situation, you may not have to pay any. It'd be the deal your realtor can get.
I have a 2007 Ford Focus that has about 286,000 miles on it. I know its tempting to say that since it has over 100,000 miles , it's old. But just because it's old doesn't mean it doesn't run great.
37:01 Nowadays you don’t need to “afford” advertising. Social media is a great avenue to advertise your business. Get out there and make/ post videos about your business!
1:24:57 Matthew's case is understandably a traumatic one for Dave. 20-something year old with 6-figure business debt at risk of bankruptcy... the dread is palpable.
She should go work at CVS.. I make $34,000 working 35 hrs a week plus they provide health insurance. They are also very flexible with days you need off. Union job too!! I never thought I could make that much. Pharmacy techs make more if you want to go for that. There is a shortage of techs . I hope God keeps blessing you.
I was married to someone like Denise’s husband and we stayed married almost 20 yrs. That was 19 years ago. Today I’m remarried and we are totally debt free (thanks to financial peace university), including our home and that would have never occurred in my past marriage. I don’t know that much about him but I do know he’s still doing the same thing with his money. He never gave me a dime of child support and I just wrote it off. But if Denise’s husband isn’t willing to change she needs to divorce him. It’s may be tough in the beginning but she will be better off, otherwise, the stress of dealing with someone in her current situation will be detrimental to her future. I would probably be dead by now with the amount of stress this person brought into my life because he sounded just like Denise’s husband to a tee.
I never bought a new car, so my ex-husband and my 2 sons. We pay cash always. I eat beans and vegetables. I until discovered Mr. Ramsey, where have I been all these years?😅 I'm extremely hood either money and I thought m sons thr rope how to save. I love it😅
I am curious about Dave's position on the argument if I can get a low finance rate, say 3%, and keep my money in an investment making 7% is that still advised against
Not all debt is bad. It comes down to a few simple factors and that is how productive the growth prospect will be against the interest paid. Ever wonder why companies like Apple or Microsoft still have some debts since they have hundreds of billion in free cash flow?
Just recently sold my perfectly running high millage vehicle it had 252xxx on it and regret selling it for my newer actually older lower millage vehicle with 247xxx on it😂. People who complain about 100xxx cmon get real that is practically new still.
I got a Tesla model Y…it has depreciated so much just in one year! Minus $20k, ouch! I still think is a great care for many reasons. ..love that autopilot.
To the caller, that was going to take money out of their IRA and pay taxes on it to pay off their house and cars. I think Ramsey was wrong on this Answer. It's a mathematical question whether or not you should do that. You have to do the math on how much you would save one way or the other. And how close you are to retirement. Please don't just listen to financial advice from anybody Always do your homework
Kimberly 's story what about the ex. What is he suppose to live on? He is going to end up on the streets. Sometimes people just need to wait for their kids to get older before they do the divorce. He is also working his butt off to pay for her to stay home with their kids. Don't feel bad for her, feel bad for him.
Yeah he’s not a high earner if that’s all the child support and alimony he can pay. Both parents are broke now with three young children to support. How tragic.
Typical - wife takes the money and wants to be a SAHM - she CHOSE him. Suck it up and contribute more to the finances and raising of the kids and don't just depend on your ex to do everything.
That’s why I didn’t pursue dental school.. way too expensive! Instead I became a hygienist went to a private university - it was still pricey but not nearly as much.
Matthew - dental school - Dave does not seem to understand that not everyone can choose the least expensive dental school. Choices are limited by where a person is actually accepted! Why don't the RS people recommend the military for medical, vet, pharma, and dental fields?
I just can't wrap my head around these American women who go deeply in student loans in order to get a degree that they have no intention to use because all they want to become a stay at home mom. I mean: WTF is up with that? It must be some cultural difference I just can't understand
What happens is they get the degree to do what they THINK they want to do and then those babies come along and they just can't allow anyone else to have them for most of the day. The EMOTIONS of a mother rule the HEAD of a professional. And the case of the chiro last call is particularly poignant b/c with that degree, the entirety of the profession is based on a person's keeping current with physical manipulation of a person's spine and other advice (such as functional medicine, etc.) It's just not a profession where someone can stay out to raise kids and then go back 10 years later after all the technique has been unused and lost.
It's a "plans change" thing. Don't plan on kids/plan on going back to work. And then for whatever reason (lack of childcare/it costs more than they make, emotions, mental health, physical issues, disabled child, philosophy/moral ideals change, whatever), they just never go back. A lot of the PhDs women tend to get don't exactly rake in money, so it's hard to pay off student loans while working before kids and the pay might not be worth returning to when childcare costs 2k
I've never owned a vehicle with 100,000 - that would be like new! Current daily has 258,000 and still going strong 100+ miles a day. Bought it for $500 3 years ago
Recommending divorce 1:07 but no where in the baby steps does it help prepare you for divorce. Yea finances are a main cause but half the people calling in are going through it. Why @daveramsey do you preach togetherness and push marriage so hard but divorce is a seriouse reality for over 50% of people?
Yes you mention counseling to reconcile and mend the relationship but you are recognizing divorce is a factor and can be the biggest wealth killer if you’re on the wrong end but may not even be at fault. How do we prepare for this while hoping and doing what we can for the best?
The stay home mom not working but she has a graphic design degree. Freelance remote gigs she could be doing but instead she lives off of her ex instead because she doesn't like it
I know. That’s really sad. She has the potential to take back some personal power and advance her financial and spiritual progress by being proactive. I have yet to hear anyone getting out of debt say they loved doing Door Dash, for example. Some things are a means to an end, like becoming self sustaining and putting food on the table.
You aren't ready to swap your old car for a new one until you make some educated guesses/assumptions and project a monthly upkeep cost for the old car over the next two or three years. Then compare that monthly upkeep cost of the old car to the cost of financing a newer vehicle. It will almost always pay to tolerate the old car.
Dave is much easier on women than he is on men. That's clear in this episode with situations that were very similar - a husband who did not want to get on the "program" and a wife in the same situation.
If it was the wife being a child he would be telling him to "convince her, dont use my name as a cuss word" Edit: lmao, he literally did that to the dork with the speech impediment who cradle robbed his wife who is 10 years younger 🤣
Why are so many people in a hurry to take what Grandma and Grandpa own especially when they are still alive? If its in a trust then TRUST it will go to who they want it to go to and when.
The first caller is putting the house in a trust to keep from property gains tax. Dave is wrong. Also food security is just as important if not more important than money right now.
So you're dumb enough to put money into something you don't own? Okay tell you what come to my place and pay the thousands of dollars my car needs body repair on from the idiot that hit me last year on July 31st from Richland Texas who ran two red lights and got away with it because Pearl Mississippi police department and MDOT both dropped the ball involving me getting access to the cameras on the lights that would have proven I was hit by an idiot running a red light after all you don't own my car that's not dumb for me to ask that of you, right?( facepalms) Yes..we get it...critical thinking skills skipped you by 10k miles😂
Play Miguel's you also believe it makes more sense to hold on to a mortgage and invest or allegedly invest the difference versus what you would have spent paying off the mortgage much faster. Again you love risk, got it
Dave isn't always right about houses going up in value and vehicles going down (at least to the degree he claims). My house is valued the same as it was when I purchased it in 2005. My truck is worth the same as it was when I purchased it in 2019. Houses are just boxes that need constant upkeep and repairs. Also, taxes and insurance must be constantly paid. It's often the land that goes up in value that helps offset the depreciating house.
Your issue was, you purchased your home at the top of the market in 2005 before the housing crash of 2008. It took another anomaly (Covid and riots) to turn the housing market on it's head again. For the most part, housing does go up in value steadily.
@@striperkidadditionally, Dave pretty much has everyone depend on the stock market for retirement. If someone retires in a down market, they can be screwed. . And the market isn't really that old... anything could happen, especially with many countries no longer relying on The US dollar and our country being in record debt
@@striperkidhistorically, gold has outperformed real estate as an investment, and gold requires no annual taxes, insurance, or repairs... yet Dave NEVER tells anyone to invest ANY money into gold. Why is that if he's all about "the math"?
@@striperkidanother point that Dave makes that is not always a good idea... Buy a house "when you're ready" despite what the interest rate is while repeating "date the rate and marry the house". People should consider that refinancing involves having to dish out a lot of money on appraisal fees, refinancing fees, and if the house has depreciated, that can be an issue. Sometimes it seems like Dave is looking out for mortgage bankers, real estate agents, financial advisors, and insurance companies more than he is the actual consumer. This is also demonstrated by all the ads. His philosophy of getting out of debt is great, but beyond that, it's oversimplified and not fully explained.
Companies that place too many of their top executives on the same plane or in the same vehicle at the same time, may be placing their operations at risk. - the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE). Goes for cruise ships too Mr. Ramsey. 20 BofA executives were on the plane that landed on the Hudson River. 6 executives from Bruno's grocery chain in AL died in a plane crash in GA in 1991 5 executives with Conoco Inc died in a plane crash in 1991 7 scientists from Crop and Food Research died in a plane crash in 2003, etc... There are more. Many corporations restrict the number of executives travelling together
Not a point to brag about as far as I'm concerned. At some point it's time to start enjoying life. What are you going to look back on - beans and rice? You only get one life and putting off enjoying it some will leave you with few memories and by the time you decide to spend some, your health will seriously limit what you can do. No one gets to take a U-Haul or a large bank account to heaven. Prepare for the future, yes, but when you do, live in the moment!
in germany you can buy a decent brand new car for around 22-23k. There is no real benefit of buying this car 2 or 3 years old because the value doesnt drop, but i know that this doesnt work on most of the cars. I plan to buy a brand new car for 23k and drive it till its done or nearly done.
I’m curious if a property is in a trust… how can the grandson know if his grandparents want him to have the property when they have a son. Dave is right he shouldn’t put money into a property that is not in his name😮
Did Dave understand the first caller was improving the family property in lieu of paying rent? I thought his suggestions to the young man were ridiculous. "Hey grandpa I know your letting me and my wife move in but I'm gonna need you to put this place in my name to boot." Kids gonna end up homeless real quick.
I’m 14 and I’ve been watching this guy since I was 13 and the reason I started in the first place is because I’ve seen what bad money management can do to a person or family first hand and I don’t wanna put my family if I have one through that and I also don’t want to worry about it either

Jade Warshaw does. She says you need a stacked DECK. C stands for Closing Costs.
I'd hope people who are buying a home would have looked into it enough to know closing costs exist
Dave Ramsey you give good advice ❤❤❤.
I live with 2 kids on 1880 a month... it's hard but it's what I have to do...

2000 child support+ alimony 😕
My Ford F150 has 270,000 miles on it. I'm finally beginning to save for a replacement, but I plan to keep the truck too. It's been great.

100k miles is not a lot. But it depends on the vehicle and the usage.
Shhhhh, I love buying vehicles with just over 100,000 miles. They are the best deals 😊
Love the show. Seems like Rachels really always trying to add something and dragging it out. Lol.
She does go on a lot and repeats herself - she needs focus for this show and save the lengthy explanations for her Happy Hour show with George.

Dude, I had a 97 Neon that was an outstanding vehicle. :)
270k miles on my 2012 car and still fine!! 100k miles is not a lot if you properly maintain the vehicle.
2013 Toyota Sienna, currently at 215,000 miles. I would LIKE a newer vehicle, but can’t justify it since it runs so well still!
Hello I'm Joyce Hutchinson I don't know what to do I'm in addiction sickness in loans money how do I start with baby step
To the caller, that was going to take money out of their IRA and pay taxes on it to pay off their house and cars. I think Ramsey was wrong on this Answer. It's a mathematical question whether or not you should do that. You have to do the math on how much you would save one way or the other. And how close you are to retirement.
Please don't just listen to financial advice from anybody
Always do your homework
The Kimberly story, she’s almost certainly on food stamps. Not that there’s anything wrong with it temporarily. So the kids will be fed.
How tragic.
She didn't told how much alimony he has to pay
Sounded like the 1900 was from alimony and child support. Then some additional income from selling pottery and selling things.
Agree. I went to work and split custody with the father. If either parent suffers, the kids suffer.
It's a cultural thing that makes no sense
@@NigriffHere you are still flapping. Hush
Staying home is cheaper then childcare a lot of the time
How do I get a call with you ? It will take less than 5 minutes I’m 24 and have a very hard decision to make about my future!

Recommending divorce 1:07 but no where in the baby steps does it help prepare you for divorce. Yea finances are a main cause but half the people calling in are going through it. Why @daveramsey do you preach togetherness and push marriage so hard but divorce is a seriouse reality for over 50% of people?
Where is that place n your financial planning?
Yes you mention counseling to reconcile and mend the relationship but you are recognizing divorce is a factor and can be the biggest wealth killer if you’re on the wrong end but may not even be at fault. How do we prepare for this while hoping and doing what we can for the best?
@theramseyshow

I know. That’s really sad. She has the potential to take back some personal power and advance her financial and spiritual progress by being proactive. I have yet to hear anyone getting out of debt say they loved doing Door Dash, for example. Some things are a means to an end, like becoming self sustaining and putting food on the table.
I’ve noticed that every time it’s a chiropractor that calls in, they always giggle when they answer Dave’s question, “what’s the degree in?”
This was a great episode beginning to end.
Dave is much easier on women than he is on men. That's clear in this episode with situations that were very similar - a husband who did not want to get on the "program" and a wife in the same situation.
Chivalry
If it was the wife being a child he would be telling him to "convince her, dont use my name as a cuss word"

Thank you.
@@striperkidMy point is, it's not a black and white rule.

Do you know my wife and I are aiming at our second Million dollars by still staying on the "Beans and Rice" ..."Rice and Beans" policy!!😂
What are you gonna do with it? Why does it matter when you are depriving yourself? Sounds miserable.
Congrats!

If, in place of rent, he needs to maintain it, he should only pay for repairs up to the amount that the rent would be.
I’m curious if a property is in a trust… how can the grandson know if his grandparents want him to have the property when they have a son. Dave is right he shouldn’t put money into a property that is not in his name😮
Wow 3h Live you guys are rockstars💪🎉❤
Dave missed he will pay rent, and that rental payment would be used to improve the property.
Perhaps they should just pay rent then and have grandpa pay for improvements.
