So right about the pigs, never owned a horse that didn't spook when we came upon some pigs ,
when we showed quarter horses we always rode them down the country roads to give them
a break from training all the time, it refreshed thier minds and kept them fresh, thanks for sharing !
    nice team.

It's interesting how horses have such unique reactions to different animals! Riding them down the country roads sounds like a great way to keep them mentally fresh. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Growing up on our farm in Louisiana, my Papaw and Dad raised Percheron mules. Can't beat that Percheron blood for a great working mindset. Beautiful team! From the characteristics/quirks you mentioned, it sounds like the previous owner was rough with them. Such a shame that some think being "mean" is needed with these gentle giants. It's just the opposite from my own experience. Papaw always said "Soft voices and soft hands build a better team". 😊 Sending love & best wishes from SoCO (southern Colorado) ❤️

Ladies and Gents, this team needs a patient hand and time. I won't go as far as to say the team was abused, but the former owner was 'rough' with them. If I were to venture to guess, there were Amish horses.
Hard to catch? Don't force them. Walk in the box with a carrot or apple. Be patient and let them come to you. Trust me, they will meet you at the door in time, anxious to say hello.
Coco spooks a little when harnessed. Go slow. Talk to him softly as you harness him. Give Coco a carrot, sugar cube, or apple. He'll learn he can trust you and settle down.
The same goes for them in traffic. The more you use them, the better they will get. Expose them to traffic and machinery. Show them that they aren't in danger and that you won't hurt them. In a year, this team can be as good as the Dapples in that corn harvest video.
This is a good, solid team; they don't spook and work well together. All they need is a patient teamster, a farrier, and a bath! I wish to hell I had a place to keep them.

If they snort some so does my wife now and then I had a team of Persian mares the minute she opened the Barn door they started to snort but you can get in around them harness them walk up in their stalls it never went away they always snorted so don't let that bother you on this beautiful team of horses
