Easy Shard Farm for Early Game in Horizon Forbidden West

- This shard or money farm can be done early in your Horizon Forbidden West Playthrough and can also easily be done on all difficulties. It also works in New Game+. This method is done using the merchant at Barren Light and the Whisper Hunter Bow.
This has NOT been patched.

The Whisper Hunter Bow can also be purchased in the desert settlement called "Scalding Spear" Its faster to farm there if you have access to it, because the bow is at the top of the buying menu, so less inputs every time you buy it. But you have to be a bit into the main story to have access to the settlement.
Hmm when I do this farm in Barren Light, for me it appears on top, just make sure to hit the sort button in the menu (options) and sort by type. The Whisper Hunter Bow should be at the top in the buy screen.
you can just filter by weapon type.

Bruh, this just feels like the hero of Meridian touched this bow so we gonna basically pay her 50 shards for every bow she touches and resell it to plebs for 250
One other trick, if you turn on "Toggle All" in Accessibiliy options it will make it so you don't have to hold the buttons.
Secondly, you don't have to go all the way to scalding spear, just press Start to sort by (Type) and the Whisper Bow will be at the top of any shop...
Just confirmed that this has not been patched. Works perfect for me. Great little way of making metal shards
You can also find it in scalding spear, this is quicker because the bow is at the top of the buying menu

Hey I was wondering. When I lowered difficulty for weapon upgrades, I now require to also have enough shards as part of the upgrade as well as other machine parts, however on normal difficulty it wasn't the case, I wonder if they patched it or something
I just want to say THANK YOU. I have over 170 hours of farming and exploring in the game. Unlocked most of the games rewards and for some reason my game become corrupt and I needed to start over. As you can imagine I was to replay this game using faster methons of completion as I need to do hardest new game plus for acheivements and this will REALLY Help get t here a LOT faster. Many many thank yous.

November 2023 - I can confirm this method still works.
I went from 5k shards to 70K shards in about 2 hours.
Why do people still expect these exploits to be patched and eliminated?
Perhaps they are not a bug. perhaps they are there by design. Game developers leave this sort of "easter eggs" for people to find ALL the time. They are meant to make your game experience easier IF you can find them.
I look for stuff like this all the time. It´s not cheating. You still have to grind for hours and hours and even days with exploits like this. That´s why developers leave this stuff hard coded in games.
Who will have the patience and determination to grind this easter egg?

Thanks for this. I had finished the game and just finished crafting the over rides on the last group after finishing all the cauldrons. Was down to 114 shards and still needed to do some upgrading of weapons and outfits. Good news was I already had the bow. Unfortunately it had been entirely upgraded even though I never use it. Pulled off the coil and they gave me back the shards and a couple of materials for it. Then I bought and sold the $149 Whisper Bow over and over and finally have over 3000 shards now. I kept the bow just in case I run out of shards again. Since I don't use it I'll put it in my stash so it's there if I need to go "farming" again. BIG THANKS!!

Still works april 2023, the whisper bow you loot from shadows reach is just an extra 250 and must be sold to purchase the one at the vendors. Scalding spear is the easiest to spam with the bow being at the very top. Thank you for this video!
Thank you. I was worried this was patched. I'm trying to get everything ready on ultra hard. Getting shards for upgrades, ammo , and buying items has been a real pain.
@@TheUltrasora ive tried this honestly, its faster to change difficulty to custom. Set boss health to story and set easy loot, then pick 2 machines. I just pick tremur and slither bc theyre close, then go back and forth killing till I have 1 fast track item left. Then go to a shelter and sell all tremur,slither drops plus the braids,scraps etc its quicker and made more money then selling buying and making 110 shards.
@JacklePuff but it is easier especially since I'm on ultra hard. I don't think I can change the difficulty.

Trick with the vendor and the whisper bow still works on PC edition. Helped me a lot to grind less in the grind to get legendaries maxed out.

Am I missing something? I can’t just buy it. It wants charge horn etc. even fully upgraded it buys and sells for 182 shards. I’m on version 1.0 though. Completely unpatched.
My mannnn... I was re-looting machines during the side mission "The Blood Choke," and I'm not sure if I came upon a glitch... I was able to re-loot the dead machines over and over as I just repeated the path... BEFORE completing the mission! Once I completed the mission I could do this no longer. However, this is wayyyy less time consuming. I can't believe this hasn't been patched by now but I love it. 😂 All I buy with my shards are machine muscle and echo shells... Items that should be super common and plentiful because they are needed to craft simple ammo... But machine muscle (an uncommon item), supposedly, isn't so easy to find. Therefore, for this reason I do not believe in cheating because the game is wrong. 😂
Man you are an absolute goat.... I'm 33 level and until today i was always about between 1000 and 1500 shards, i couldn't go any higher.... I couldn't get almost into the arena because of the lack of shards, i was struggling to keep them, so i can buy some good equipment.... Today i have 15.000 in less than 15 minutes, and at last i can play the game fairly.... I will try your knew spot of farming tomorrow, thanks a lot bro keep up
For those on UH & needing to do the quest, I suggest using a ropecaster on the Ravager & killing Vesrah first. Ideally you'd want the Elite Ropecaster from Thornmarsh, but if you have not progressed that far yet, the Anchor or Eventide ropecaster will work, but will require more ropes, so its best to start by hitting the shock cannister with a shock arrow while it roars (as seen in the video) and using that time to rope it down. This is because Vesrah's weapon will do extra damage once the Ravager dies.

I completed the quest long ago and already had access to the bow. So was pretty easy for me. But you can get the bow at other locations like scalding spear

25 of april 2023 still works, you must talk to the npc to finish the quest. i didnt so i tought it was patched
This is good because toward the end it seems impossible to get more shards by killing machines and picking thousands of plants doesn't seem reasonable either.

Hmmmm, I went to Barren Light merch yesterday and they didn’t have my favorite bow (Whisper Hunter of course. Awesome bow !!!!!). Guess I’ll check today, again. Maybe they respawn different weapons daily 🤣. Been trying to get a lot of shards, but barely had any luck yesterday. If I can find a good Glowblast bow early game, then that will be the bow I stick with for shards and the racing.

Please help me. I can’t even see the bow. I have been to the hunter at baren light and in scalding spear. I’m quite far in the game (have got 2 legendary sets and quite a lot of super rare bows etc). I’ve checked my stash and it also isn’t there. It also isn’t in my inventory. And to be clear: the merchant doesn’t have an option for the bow. There is just no option. Can you help me?
Hmm make sure you have completed the quest that is the only thing I know could be an issue.

I travelled to the location mentioned, and found no NPC there at all...place is empty. - EDIT: Does no matter tho, because I can buy the bow from Scalding Spear anyway. This is awesome. One of the reasons I stopped playing the game for a long while, was because I always ran out of shards to make arrows, and had to farm 10 by 10 from machines and whatnot. With this I can have enough shards and can concentrate on the fun parts of the game instead of constantly having to stop to farm.
I drop down at the dig site like yourself in the video but the bunker door isn’t giving me the option to open it. Any ideas

Thank You, I feel like my progress has been held back for weeks due to a lack of blastepaste. Now every ammo type is full, every pouch is upgraded and every resource fully stocked. I can enjoy the game again.

How do I get to the spot to skip the quest the invisible wall is everywhere
I have tried to buy at the vendor in Scalding Spear and Barren Light and both have the weapon greyed out and say sold out. It could be because I own the bow and even though I stored it in “my stash” the game may have it blocked for repurchase. I don’t want to sell the one I have because it’s fully upgraded. Sad I didn’t see this idea earlier before I had put resources into upgrading 😓 hopefully I’ll replace it soon and then I’ll try this trick.
Trick does not work if you have the bow, even in the stash.

I believe that the Carja settlement has the wisperer bow as the first option at the merchant. It helps if you stach everything before farming the shards. This makes the shard farm a lot quicker, as you don't need to scroll nearly as much
Which Carja settlement do you mean, Barren Light is a Carja Settlement?

This is moot though, at any shop (Barren Lights for instance) just press Start to sort by Type in shop and whisper bow will be at the top.

Can this farming method be used for any other weapon with higher shard value? Or the Whisperer Bow only works?
As I said in the video, the Whisper Hunter Bow is the only Item I know of that can be sold for more than you buy it for.

It doesn't work, the bows dissappeared, even when i go on buy back, it only shows recent items ive sold. This game is trash. Resources are scarce and not enough shards in the game. Im almost level 40
