It's easier to laugh when someone is laughing too. Maybe it's because of the "group" thing, or it just means you are less-likely to laugh than some others.
It's the same reason we have those "laugh tracks" in sitcoms. Every time something funny happens you hear people laughing. Simply a psychological thing - when you hear others laughing you feel it's okay to laugh yourself. :)
