She was introduced to many of us on Season 4 of Rupaul’s Drag Race being the reality “villain” of the season, was promised a redemption arc in All Stars 2 and was once again the reality villain of the season, and has since shown the world that maybe it was just the edit. Her compassion for charity is phenomenal and her beautiful cosplay looks took her into the mainstream media. Her name is Phi Phi O’Hara and she’s about to be EXPOSED: Virtual Edition! #PhiPhiOHara #DragRace #Rupaul

People act like Rupaul is the messiah of drag. And yes, he has done a lot for drag, but he is not above criticism and he is not perfect. He isn't the be all end all of drag either.
I respect him as an artist, and I'm a fan of the show, but I definitely watch it with a different perspective than i used to.
The fact that Rupaul will only let trans queens on the show unless they are pre-transition or they pause transition, while allowing cis queens who have had a slew of feminizing surgeries shows his hypocrisy and transphobia.
Jaremi is right, Rupaul doesn't give a shit about his contestants unless they are making him money. Look how fast he will turn his back on any queen who gives him a sliver of criticism or disagree with him.
I think fame has gotten to is head. And i hope someday someone brings him down a few pegs.
While i was sad to see Ben De La fo from AS3, i was happy for her because it was like a big fuck you to Rupaul when she eliminated herself.

RuPaul wants money (so do I and many people so thats not an issue), they want fame, and to be remembered. And I think it has shown over the years and seasons. He doesn't care about the show as much ( i think now) because he knows that no matter what the fans will eat it up or maybe he does care but not enough or is only following what he is told, which I feel, he didn't 100% do in earier seasons. This is by far the best interview I've seen related to rpdg. I will be honest, i wasn't a Phi Phi fan watching season 4(despite admiring her pure talent, that was undeliable) , but over the years I've seen just what exactly the show does to make its contests look a certain way. The world is not black and white. You're not inheritly evil or good. But we can change. My favorite part was him owning up to who he was and the way he acted. It shows so much growth and responsibility, and i admire that so much. Jaremi, i don't think you'll ever see this, but i have gained so much love and respect of you as an artist and a person. People have said such horrible things about you, i can't imagine how hard that must have been. Not to mention i can see the pain in your eyes as you answer some of the harder questions. rupaul seems nasty when he doesn't get what he wants. it's such a shame because honestly, i didn't like phi phi! it worked on me! the editing can really screw someone. none of the fans really know what it's like to be on the show, so i think in terms of being vocal about "hating" a queen, we should all just shut up. it doesn't bring any good to send a human being angry messages. with that said, i'll still be watching drag race every season. it's a good show!

Sarah Anne They edit the show to fit the queens in a narrative they want to tell. Highlighting nasty comments from the ones that are going to be the bitches/divas/snakes of the season. It can really change the way we see them. I personally don’t think the editing is Rupaul’s fault.
It’s bad to manipulate their character like that because they’re real people. And it can actually affect their reputations and jobs.

I think about RuPaul as a person who has been in the 'industry' for decades so drag is a job to her at this point....I don't think she actually enjoys drag anymore but that's what he gets paid to do. Ru was more genuine in the earlier seasons w/ the queens (Raven, Latrice, etc.) and still has her faves (i.e. Vanjie) but I think she's pretty distant w/ the queens now.
The trans thing (to me) is moreso a network issue and not a Ru issue (which is why she always redirects the conversation when trans issues are brought up). Until recently (w/ OITNB and Pose) trans people had to hide in the entertainment industry or they weren't getting jobs unless it was demeaning af. I think they'll showcase trans queens NOW because it's more 'socially acceptable' than it may have been before.

When I watched season 4 I really hated Phi Phi, but then I remembered that the editors and producers actually control the way the queens look so now I don't hate her because I understand that it was all faked by the producers of the show. Also this interview helps me like him and sympathize with him about his experience in the show.

SO many queens seem to lose themselves in their drag identity.

What a nice interview. I'm not a hardcore fan of RPDR, so I didn't know much of Jeremy beside his Phi Phi persona. It was such a nice interview, I always suspect that Sharon and PhiPhi were acting up and were secretly friends. I also felt uncomfortable watching All Stars 2, because the 'shady' editing was QUITE obvious. I still watch RPDR because is entertaining, but I don't take it too seriously.

Growing up in an abusive household is rough and the toll it can take on a human being is often long lasting. RuPaul has done so much and gave a platform to these queens so they shouldn't complain when being portrayed a certain way, and just be grateful that they were given exposure? Do not forget that RuPaul made money out of these queens, too. RuPaul is being raised to the level of being the Messiah of Drag, but she's doing this because of money. What made these queens famous is because of their talent, not because of RuPaul. RuPaul benefited from these queen.

So just because someone helps you elevate your platform doesn’t mean that you can’t criticize their actions? The Phi Phi O’Hara hate at times is just a large double standard and I’m not here for it.

I'm late as heck but I love that u did this specific interview because I've never had the chance to see Jaremi this stress-less, and they tried telling us a long time ago that DR is heavily edited. What's crazy is how Ru had even said "I invited Phi Phi to come speak her mind but she refused" so l'm happy they didn't go to AS2.
There's a vlog that Nelson Sullivan recorded back before he passed away(it's on 5ninthavenueproject a channel on YT)and he went with a few friends in drag(including Ru)to PRIDE and Ru just deserted them. It's like she used them to get her there and then took off? When the queens started coming out with how messed up and nasty Ru is to them and Mathieu Anderson, it reminded me back to when she ditched the man she calls her "mentor" and ran off? Maybe things would've been different if Nelson was still here(MA also was supposed to be a good friend of hers as well)possibly not?
