    Farmer was so dominant. Wish we had a ruck a quarter as good now.

    The only flag in what was a frustrating decade for Geelong.
    Preliminary final losses in 1962, '64 and '68 ruined eight successive finals appearances from 1962-69.

      You had another era very similar to it, from 1989-1997....4 losing Grand Finals in that lot & a Preliminary, Semi Final & qualifying loss to go with it.... Yowser!

      Hey Simmo,
      Adelaide and the umpires killed us in 197.
      Finished second after the minor rounds and had to play 7th placed Nth Melb on a Friday night.
      Then we were shafted to Adelaide to play the Crows where the men in white killed us.
      Buddha Hosking's 'goal' called a point and Leigh Colbert's mark 25m out not paid.
      Lady luck and the bearded bloke upstairs not with us 26 years ago.

    Wow - what a valuable bit of footy history. Polly Farmer, the Lord twins, John Watts, Doug Wade. What an archive!! Love YT, and people like you who post such treasures. AND to think i can now watch Melb's last premiership from '64. I had no idea these treasures were hiding here.

      It's really good quality. Esp in comparison to the bits of footage of the '64 final. Can barely recognise the players, but l'd completely forgotten what a tight exciting game it was. Melb was my passion, I have never forgiven Ron Barassi for leaving us [ha ha], even tho he he did move on to achieve amazing things for the game.
      I always had a real soft spot for Geelong, after we moved down to a farm near Pt Campbell, where the Lord twins grew up. They were our heros. Plus my dad had great admiration for what Polly Farmer 'contributed to the game'. Sadly, he passed on last year, cos l would have loved to have shared this with him.
      Ironically John Rantall, fellow conspirator with Barassi, was another hero of mine, but as my bus captain, a yr or two before his AFL career. I was only 6 yrs old, and he was my big protector - a gorgeous man.

      I actually use too wear my Ron Barassi footy boots when I played my junior footy and Mopsy Rantall was a super player able to play on just about anyone.

    Hey UA-cam conveners.
    Can you please find film of the 1967 first semi-final and preliminary final.
    Geelongs wins over Collingwood and Carlton were two of our best GF appearances.
    The Cats came from a long way back in the '67 Prelim to beat Carlton and I've never seen film of it having lived in Northern Territory back then.
    Thank You UA-cam!!!

    hell, i thought the hawks player had died and the trainer was giving him cpr, then be thought 'stuff it. he's dead and weve lost . what's the point' v

    No Dennis Marshall, or Brian Cousins???? Wondering if one of those trainers is Mr Bowen - the originator of Bowen's Therapy.

    • @ChipsCooper
      @ChipsCooper  6 років тому +2

      Dennis Marshall arrived in 1964 and Brian Cousins in 1975 don't know about the trainer though.

      Ooops my timeline a bit out there. What yr did Sam start at Geelong?

    • @ChipsCooper
      @ChipsCooper  6 років тому +3

      Sam started at Geelong in 1964 most people don't realise how good a footballer he really was. My favourite player from that era was John Sharrock I use to wear his number 10 on my back.

    Hi Chips, do you by any chance have the whole match on video? or any other Geelong games from the early 60s??

    • @ChipsCooper
      @ChipsCooper  6 років тому +1

      I have the 1968 1st semi final in full which I might put up when I get a bit time the quality is excellent so won't have to restore too much , I also have a video of all the last quarters from the grand finals from the sixties which is where the 63 grand final came from.

      the rest of the match is famously missing. it was recorded but can't be found. the tv station doesn't have it and everyone else denies having it too.

      Derm had it coming for rupturing Yates testicle out at Princes Park earlier that year....Taking out Platten early though meant you blokes copped the karmic comeuppance you deserved in the end.
