Grandma Mary’s Vintage Slippers ~ Addi, Sentro, Circular Knitting
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2022
- These slippers are made in honour of my grandma Keillor who made more slippers than I will ever be able to make in my life time. And she did it with straight knitting needles! We loved watching her whip up a pair and she generously gave them to anyone who needed or wanted a pair.
Made on my Sentro 48 needle machine.
Can be made the same way on an Addi 46 needle machine.
I used Craft Smart yarn. 4 weight
Happy knitting everyone!
❤️🧶❤️
My grandmother 36 grandchildren and every year she made each and everyone of us a pair of slippers. I miss my grandma.
These slippers bring such great memories. I miss my grandma as well!! ❤️
❤
We always received some for Christmas from my grandma! I loved them!
Socks are some of the least available donation items for the homeless community. And much much needed. The idea of someone making these slippers and donating them is so heart warming. ❤️
This is such a great idea to donate. I didn't think of this.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been looking to donate knitted things and wanted to make more than just hats. My local women's shelter is going to get a whole bunch of comfy slippers as well now. I hope your gran would approve ❤
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching, making and “subscribing”! 😉🥰
I just posted a video for toddler slippers.
You’re so sweet!
We spend money on engaging g in these hobbies and we thank God for you “ keeping it real. “ it lets us know that we may one day be able to make the beautiful things you make.❤
💕Thank you so much! I believe you can make anything I make by following my videos. Then one day you will soar without the videos. Have fun!!
Thank you, Shelly for telling how to measure for your foot size. And also, the tip on using the waste yarn on the end of the project vs. the beginning. These are things so many probably just think everyone knows, but they don't. Your videos are so helpful. I appreciate you!!
You are so welcome! 😍 Have a great day!
My friend bought a Sentro as well and her counter broke the first time using it. Where my Addi just keeps on counting. I learned to crochet when I was very small. My babysitter believed you did not put a child in front of a TV but taught them something useful. So she taught me to crochet and I remember her making slippers when I was small.
That’s a great story! Thanks for sharing.😍
Thank Shelley! I'm here in an Australian winter with an Addi, a ton of yarn and 2 cold feet! You've saved me🧦❤
Enjoy!
Love these the way you did them, you are the first to turn the point of the heel up and it looks like it would be more comfortable that way, so thank you. 💖💖
Thank you! 😍
I remember patients wearing these in the hospital wing of a aged care home, whenever another pair turned up, they would get such a smile, the comfort these provide for cold feet and the knowledge that these older ladies had appreciating the effort someone went to just for them.
I love that story! I also worked with seniors and they are the best! I was a health care aide.
Slippers like this bring back memories for them. It’s a comfort item for sure. ❤️

My grandmother was born in 1900 and lived with Parkinson’s for 40 years. She was wheel-chaired bound most of my life but I always remember her wearing a pair. I searched the internet looking for a pattern for them. I have the Addi 46 and would love to make these for the grandkids during our cold winters here in NH. Thank you for a great video
Thank you for sharing that. I love hearing about the memories this pattern brings. 🥰
Mother-in-law taught me to knit and crochet. My children benefitted from both of our efforts at Christmas and such. Great memories.
Yay thank you for a sentro 48. I'm new and can't wait to do my first pair. Thank yiu so so much.
You are just the best !!
❤️❤️❤️thank you! 😊
Thank for the beautiful grandma slippers story 😊and pattern 😊
My grandma used to make these slippers too. We had so many of them when we were kids. Thanks for your tutorial ...I'm going to make some of these!
Thank you for keeping it real!

So cute! Great for a present ❣️🌹
Thank you. Your right, it makes a great gift.
I loved my grandma so much...poor granny suffered a stroke when I was like 7 or 8 years old and her whole right side was paralyzed...but with all her struggles she was the one constant in my life!! Grandma passes 37 years ago this month..miss her so much!! I am making these slippers in her honor as well...love them!! Thank you Shelley!
Thank you for sharing 🥰 please post your work in my group.
Your grandma sounds like an amazing lady ❤
She really was. 🥰
Love this tutorial, thank you so much 💓
Awesome Video!!!❤
Thank you so much! 😊
I had a grandmother who gardened and tended cattle :) but, I did have an Aunt Nell who managed the yarn and knitting dept of a large upscale department store. Every holiday, birthday or any time she needed to use up yarn we got slippers like these. I sure loved my Aunt Nell ...thanks for bringing back those memories :) I've got some slippers to make!

The stitch markers are a great idea ,so your not searching for those stitches at the end. Thank you for making these. I am going to get started on a few pairs for Christmas gifts !
My mother made those, but hand knitted. I’m happy to see this as she’s gone almost 25 years. I miss her and those slippers!
I am glad it brought back a memory or two. 🥰
My MIL made these in two colors by hand as a checkerboard and everyone loved them! Such sweet memories.

I love these too! Another great video. I see we are the same age 😊 I can't wait to take out my machine again and try this.
Then you must remember these slippers as a little girl as well. 🥰
Very good 😊
It is nice you had a grandma that care for other. My grandma was the meanest person i ever knew. But she did knit and crochet. But she would be that person that would take a blanket from the homeless.
I am sorry you have such hurtful memories of her. Sometimes the past teaches us what not to do with the generations under us.
I’m sure you are making a very positive change. 😍
I never had a grandma but my sister did this. I’ve made them on loom, crochet, about to do on needles, then by machine when I get one! Sis had passed now. I have some of her yarn.❤
That will be special to make it with her yarn. 😍
Thank you honey! Very nice, from Baudette Minnesota USA

As I was watching your video… I search for my slippers my grandma made some 15 years ago… 😊 it’s the same with some additions… she liked to sew a piece of nonsplip fabric under and to add two hidden elastics tread at the opening… love your video! Another great video! They are super cute and I know what I'll be doing tomorrow. My grandmother was a prolific crocheter. She didn't make slippers, but I remember one time she gave my mom one of those dolls with a huge crocheted rufflely skirt to cover toilet paper rolls!😹 It literally covered the entire tank top. I must say though, she did a beautiful job of crocheting and it was very sweet of her.
That was for sure our generation. My mom had one of those toilet paper dolls and so did everyone of her friends. Lol
Too cute
I knitted those slippers in 7th grade. Shop double period class. Many many years ago. We used Aunt Lydia’s Heavy Rug Yarn.
Others have said the counters break quickly on those Serto machines.
The counters are terrible on the Sentros.
I was very close to my dad's mom because my read dad was crushed to death when I was 2 years and 10 months old.
Grandma was so close to my heart and I truly learned a lot from her.
We made home made bread and she taught me how to sew and do a lot.
Plus she was an excellent cook.
She was very dear to my heart, and it really hurt when she died 16 years ago.
But she was saved and loved the LORD and even helped me to want CHRIST in my life to live for amen.
But both my grandma's did not knit or crochet but I did.
I truly like watching this, thank you for taking your te to show you skills in working with this knitting machine and pattern.
Thank you for sharing your heart! This is a beautiful story.
My grandma was also a woman of deep faith and it’s because of her life that I also know the Lord. Grandmas….. gotta love them!

Wonderful! 🥰
Thank you. Yes my grandma Mary made these slippers as well. 😁
Awe ❤️
I bought a sentro after watching this video :). The counter didn't work right out of the box but I have a finger counter thing for counting crochet rows and just used it and it works great.
My grandmother used to make so many slippers. She made a slipper cover for the slider on my curling shoes and I actually just bought my first gripper ~4 years ago after my slipper wore out...
Slipper sliders are awesome!!
Great story!
😊
Just made a pair to wear for Christmas! I do suggest that if you've got wide feet (like me) to make them bigger. I made my first pair 45 rows but they ended up being a bit small (no worries, my son needed new slippers anyways!).
Thanks for sharing amazing project; I thought of making only beanies and scarves; now I can see it’s so versatile. I’ll make a pair for my mom 😊
Not sure if you hv resolve the counter issue but when you dismantle your machine for cleaning- maybe can try reset the counter. ❤❤❤
I just recently bought counters and I love them already! 😍
Oooh something different than a beanie or headband (headbands being my latest addiction) …. I’m going to try these adorable slippers. I do like the heel idea. Thank you for sharing your work. I’m a subscriber and enjoy your videos. ❤

Update: I have made one slipper and the other just needs stitching up. So quick and easy! As for Facebook I don’t do Facebook but I’m sure there are plenty of people who do.
The first thing I knitted by hand were slippers very similar to these.
Classic pattern 🥰
Glad you shared this I am new to the knitting machine but have made this type of slippers by crocheting and was just wondering if I could do it on the machine and now I can
You’re welcome 😊Have fun!
I'm not a grandma, but when I was a young girl one Christmas I made these slippers on straight needles for everyone in my family as Christmas presents. I think it was 1968? this year everyone will have a pair in their christmas stocking! And of course they had pompoms!
I love that story! Thank for sharing and for watching! 🥰
Both my Grandmother and my Mom made needle knit slippers that I just loved, though I am not a knitter my husband is getting me a dental for Christmas and this will be my first project😍😍😍😍I can't wait, like a kid in a candy store😅😅😅
That’s great! Have fun!
Love this, thank you! Can you please show every step for those of us who are visual learners (and those of us who aren't well versed in sewing)? I'm not sure, for example, how to reinforce the toe. But again, thank you. This video made so much sense and you explained things well.
I try to be very detailed. So sorry if I missed a step. 😊
To reinforce the toe just means that when you are tightening the circle to close it, just go around the circle another time for strength. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you for your kind words Belle! Your very welcome!
I got a Sentro last year, brand new. and after the first few projects the counter also broke, I did a few more projects using stitch markers so i could keep track, but I eventually got tired of it, so I opened up the machine and stitch counter, took a look at it, the gear were the counter meets the machine was mis-aligned, I fixed it. put it back together, and my counter has been working PERFECTLY ever since, and the machine is running even smoother than when it came out of the box.
What ?? Seriously? You are a genius!! I am going to try that. 🥰

my gran made crochet shoes i loved them so much
I hope these slippers bring back good memories of her.
The counters are temperamental. You can unscrew the box and line up the gear again - it should be fine. Or count as you stitch and place a small scrap of yarn every 10 or 20 rows to keep track. I love my Sentro.
I’m going to try your suggestion. Thank you very much.
My sentro counter only works on occasion. I just use a free knitting row counter on my phone. I know I have to stop a click a button but it works for me. I typically knit 5 or 10 rows and then stop and add them to my row counter
Yes, we do whatever works. It takes a bit of time to stop but it’s worth not losing count. My kids asked me for some christmas ideas. I suggested two counters. One for each Sentro! 🥰
I own 3 of these machines I added my own counter and you can get a 2 pack of tention holders for 5 bucks. I already had to replace mine
Thank you. I have since bought counters and tensioners. ❤️
My grandma made me a pair of yellow and white slippers like these. I remember being about 7 and getting bit by mosquitoes and scratched until it got infected and started getting blood poisoning of course my mom took me to the doctor but all I could wear on that foot b/c I couldn't wear a shoe on that foot was the slipper my grandma made me. I wore the slipper to the doctor, I loved those slippers I wore them out till they fell apart.
Awe! 🥰
I love the simplicity of this pattern!
As my foot is 9”, I did 45 rows, but my slipper was way too short. 😕
I used 100% wool yarn. Maybe it’s not as elastic as acrylic?
I tried again with acrylic yarn and did 50 rows, and the length came out perfect for me.
I think I’d like it to come up a bit higher on the back of the heel, so I’ll try not doing the little tuck at the back of the heel next time and see if it helps.
My mattress stitch looked awful on my first slipper, but looked perfect on my next one. I’m now no longer afraid of that technique, so yay!
Thanks for a great tutorial!
Great job on persevering! So glad you were able to make it work for your foot.
@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet Thank you! One of the things I love most about knitting machines is that so little time is invested in the knitting part of a project that I don’t get discouraged when a project doesn’t work the first time. 😁
Hi I love these slippers you’ve made to replicate your grandmas original hand knitted ones. I’m getting inspired to open that sentro box of mine. Still need to look at some more videos to feel totally comfortable with it though. I hope mine doesn’t break that easy. How do you feel about the sentro versus the addi? I’m sure the addi is quite stronger built considering the costs. I figured since I’m new to these machines though that I would try the cheaper version first. Ty for your tips and version of making the slippers. Happy new year🎉
Welcome to the circular knitting world. I hope you love it. I have both Addi and Sentro machines and I will say that the Addi is more sturdy and a better structure over all but I love my Sentro’s as well. They have a smoother and quieter mechanic. The counters are terrible and almost always miscount. But I just count and mark every 10 rows or use a finger counter.
Don’t give up if you are dropping or tucking stitches right away. It takes time to get the feel and technique. You made a good purchase.

Thank you for posting! these will make great bed slippers for in our cold winter months and great stocking stuffers. which yarn did you use?
Great stocking stuffer idea for sure! I used a ball that was left over and had no wrapper….Lol…. But I’m pretty sure it is Craftsmart Yarn in plum. It’s a 4 weight yarn so choose whatever you like.
Wow 1000 subscribers!! Whoop whoop. That’s so cool. I’m working for 1000 followers on my Fb page for 2023! I love the way you teach and you great personality. I have liked and subscribed!,
Thank you Margaret! I appreciate that. I am now almost at 7000! Woohoo! 🥰
Love this! I too want to add a cuff, how would you create a crochet type rib? Front post and back loop alternating?
Yes, that’s what I would likely do or you could also HDC your rows. One row of DC then another row in between stitches is also nice.
All SC ……. Anything really.
How do you know how big to leave the opening for the foot to go in. Got most of one finished just have to sew them up . I used the Premier puzzle yarn so they are nice and thick. Thanks for your instructions . I’ve enjoyed all your videos.
Thank you for watching 😊!
Sew up the toe end first then sew up the seam for a bit and put your foot into it. Take a stitch marker and mark one side in the place that feels comfortable - (maybe 1/4”) away from where it hits the base of your leg. Sew up to that point.
Hope that makes sense. 🥰
Omg these are so much easier I am so making
Hahaha! Have fun!
I only have an Addi 22 and a Sentro 40. I also have a very thin foot so I'm wondering if I can get by with making these with my Sentro. Hmmmmmm..... I will let you know.😁
Mattress stitch two (22 needle) panels together and continue the process. That will give you a 44 needle width.
Congratulations on making 1000 subscribers. Now you have many more
When you attach the pomp Pom do you use that little clear plastic gadget that you use on your hats?
Thank you! Just hit 14,000 yesterday!

🙂
It wasn't my grandmother that made them, it was my great grandmother. Every year she made slippers for everyone! I don't even know all of the kids she made slippers for, lol.
They were able to make a pair in no time. I can still see my grandma knitting at a speed I would never be able to do. So many pairs!!
Yes, My Granny made slippers for all the grandchildren and I do the same. Thank you for the nice tutorial. The yarn looks like a 4? Am I right? or is it a 5? ty Onna
Your very welcome! It is a 4 weight.
Hi can you please tell were i can buy the table clasp to hold this machine in place so it won't move i am so happy to have found your site i am new with this sentro knitting machine i have also a addi king but i have not been able to learn how to use it and what kind of yarn to use my addi is not working good when i try to use it the machine make a loud noise my you can also tell me if there is any dvd;s that will show how to do different project to do like a tutorial step by step I think you are a great teacher may god bless you
Hi Raquel
I use my Addi clamps to hold down my Sentro. I have a video on my channel showing you how I use them. Hope it helps.
You use your Addi basically the same way you use your Sentro. If it is making a loud noise check the side to make sure the button is switched to circular and not panel knitting.
Also if you are using to tight of tension it will make your gears work to hard and that could be the noise.
@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet I wanted to tell you thank for your prompt answer but i need to find out where i can buy the clasps for the Addi machine i lived in Florida and on August i moved to Puerto Rico and in the moving two boxes were missing so i could not find in my other boxes them only the legs to place on the table but with out the clasp it hard to use thank you so much for being there for me i really want to learn to do slipper for myself and granddaughter God Blessing for you and your family

I think eBay is the best for spare parts for the Sentro machine
i have spent so much money trying many different types of yarn but no success with any of them. the only yarn that worked well is the yarn that came with the machine. i’ve watched many videos on the sentro and have tried everything. my machine drops at least ten stitches every row. pulling what hair i have, out.
It can be tough to figure out tension and speed. Sometimes you gotta watch as every stitch passes the yard feeder and make sure the loop goes down over the two teeth before it works the stitch. It can be frustrating.
Do you have a formula to determine how much space to have for the ankle for different sizes?
No I don’t, sorry.
