    I've just taken delivery of one today as it was 35C in my van in full sun in Cornwall and that's a bit too warm to work in. So your video is perfectly timed as I don't need to pretend read the instructions now 🙂
    Just one thng to note, the fridge gas it uses is R290, which to you and me is propane, it only has a very small charge of 135g (from memory) and is factory sealed so it shouldn't leak but what hasn't occasionally done something it shouldn't. So keep it away from ignition sources or you could be looking at a bit of a van rebuild

    i've been looking at one of these for my van build eagerly. if you have captain chairs with a gap, great, stick it in the middle like this. If you have a big garage compartment, have it there and have vents into the living area and out the van like installing a diesel heating.
    I'm definitely leaning to one of these instead of installing a diesel heater and messing around with a jerry or tapping into the fuel tank, if you have a half decent leisure battery or an ecoflow power bank already (yes, it's the same link cable), you've got the flexibility of taking it in the van and taking it out to use in the house etc.

    We had something similar in our crafter it was a stand alone AC that only drew 300w but it was 240v so we attached a 300w ring inverter and it was amazing but bulky the pipes going out the window is a great idea. Our AC unit and inverter cost us less than £200. I do think these will have a place in the market. Good content Neil

    After watching this video, there are a few points about Wave2 that caught my attention: The accompanying battery cannot be charged separately; it must be connected to the air conditioner to charge. This is particularly troublesome and unreasonable. When I deplete the battery of the air conditioner outdoors and want to charge it, I have to carry the entire air conditioning unit with me. Keep in mind that this adds up to a weight of 50 pounds. Wow, 50 pounds! What does that have to do with portability? For me, portability is a crucial factor to consider, and I might choose Zero Breeze instead. Their product weighs less than 30 pounds, which is half the weight of Wave2, and can be easily lifted with one hand.

    • @NoZenith
      @NoZenith Рік тому

      I agree I don't think that's reasonable. The wave two dedicated battery is also old technology not LiFePO! Something like this that you're going to regularly go through a full cycle of the battery, I think that's terribly unreasonable. I still think the best portable AC on the market especially being the fact that it is also a heat pump but I'm looking at one of the other power stations, Delta Max or similar to run my little camper and skip the add on battery.

    • @Florida_Adventure
      @Florida_Adventure 11 місяців тому +1

      Zero breeze is smaller because it had a much lower BTU rating. So you might be trading weight for power. Another point I might add is you can remove the battery and carry them separately. I chose this unit over the Breeze simply for the BTU power rating. Of course it's heavier. And it's going to do a much better job at cooling. Fair trade off.

    Hi,
    some reviewers opted to NOT connect the intake hose essentially avoiding pulling in hot air from outside and making the WAVE 2 more efficient by recirculating the cooled air in the van or room. What are your thoughts on this? Keep in mind that in hot places like Nevada the ambient air itself is warm and not just the sun.

  • @IANREA
    @IANREA Рік тому +2

    So instead of doing a full electrical install, you could do solar, and an engine charging bit, then add the Eco flow big power bank, and the air con/heater, and you have a full 240/12v, usb, heater, cooler that you can take to your next van, without hassle.

    Good video, just a couple of questions, wouldn’t it make more sense to have the cold air intake on the other window, so it’s not right next to the hot air vent?
    Also, once it’s down to temp and the van is cool, would it run more efficient if you took off the cold air intake, so it could use the cold air already in the van, similar to pressing the recirculating button on your car aircon?

    • @chrisdevine4848
      @chrisdevine4848 Рік тому

      The Wave 2 actually has two air intakes, one at the back, that goes through the rear (hot) radiator, picks up the heat then goes out the rear exhaust; and one at the front that goes through the front (cool) radiator, then leaves through the front slats, pumping out cool air. If both the rear tubes are outside - and yes, ideally pointing in slightly different directions - then the front intake/exhaust is effectively is recirculating the air as you describe.

    • @murph10375
      @murph10375 Рік тому

    Great video Im looking for something to install in my next van so was interested in this. Slightly confused, why you need a hose to draw fresh air in, which will probably be warmer than that in the van, so will need extra cooling? Surely it would be better for the unit to cool the air already in the van (recirculating) and reduce the work the unit has to do.

    • @eckythump6429
      @eckythump6429 Рік тому

      The unit is a heat pump. If the suction for the heat pump is taken from inside the area you are trying to cool it will draw warm air into the ‘cooled’ area from outside to replace it reducing efficiency . Heat pump circuit air outside, cooling side recirculating air inside to work best👍🏼

    I own both the Zero Breeze Mark2 and Wave1, and after watching the video, I believe that the Mark2 is still the optimal choice for my outdoor activities. Wave2 can only be powered by Ecoflow's own battery and power storage, which means I cannot use my other brand's power storage and battery systems, which is frustrating for me. The connection cable between the air conditioner and the battery is indeed very clumsy and prone to getting lost. It cannot be placed between the front seats like the ZB Mark2.
    I am aware of the quality issues with Wave1, such as fan axle breakage and display failure, which is a concern for users. It's difficult to predict when these issues might occur. I am unsure if Wave2 has truly addressed these problems since Ecoflow has not shared any related improvement measures with us during this period.

    Ya know, it's kinda interesting. Wave 2 seems to have taken a lot of design inspiration from Mark 2, both on the outside and in the specs. But here's the thing: when it comes to outdoor ACs, portability is a major deal, folks! And that's where Wave 2 missed the mark for me. If it's meant for outdoor use, shouldn't it be even smaller and more portable than Mark 2? I mean, c'mon, when you're out camping with your trusty tent, you want something that's easy to lug around! Wave 2, let's step up that portability game and make it more tent-friendly. Us outdoor enthusiasts would really appreciate it!

    Hi Neil,
    Good review, thank you.
    The marketing splurb says that it will: "Drop 10℃ from 30℃ for 10m³ in 5 min with 5100 BTUs of cooling"...obviously your hour-long drop from 28°c to 19°c is a bit outside of that claim...or did it do it quicker but you only showed us the temp at the 1 hr marker?
    1) Is your van >10m³?
    2) Is it possible that the inlet hose in the window fitting was being contaminated by warmer expulsed air from the unit, impacting the drop time (or are those in/outlet hoses routed completely separately from the cooling/heating output vent of the unit, so makes no material difference how close the hoses are to each other)?
    3) Are you able to do a "long-term" test, to see how long the battery lasts (e.g. on Eco mode), once it's got down to x temp, and to keep it at x temp?
    4) I think I saw somewhere that you could connect this up directly to a Delta Max battery, is that right? If so, does that mean a spare Delta Max battery on its own, or would it need to be via the main Delta Max unit, with the spare battery connected to it?
    Appreciate your time,
    Cheers,
    Rich.

    I've done a LOT of research into 12v and 24v AC units. If that only uses a 23Ah on eco mode for approximately 8 hours this unit isn't worth having. Sadly it simply won't cool a van enough. Any AC unit worth having in a van or motorhome (even the most efficient pumps and fans and the most expensive AC units) will use 500Ah to 600Ah of battery over 8-10 hours, that's 50Ah to 60Ah at 12v per hour , to cool a van by 10 degrees lower than the outside temperature during the summer. Maybe this unit will use 50Ah - 60Ah of battery power per hour on full blast? Making the add on battery pack pointless. I still think Ecoflow products are amazing. I just think this is a step to far on this product. AC in a camper will Always be the most power hungry appliance . They chew through power. Unless Ecoflow have reinvented the wheel, in air-conditioning and found a ground breaking new technology in AC. (They haven't) People are going to get very disappointed with the poor performance and amount of power (Ah's) it uses, plus the price they paid for it.

      Totally agree , people don't appreciate just how much energy it takes to keep a given volume cool , it was 40 degrees last summer in the UK, this would have been an impossible job for this unit to tackle, the battery would have been toast inside 20 mins.
      I think the vans own engine driven a/c would be far more effective , yes it would use fuel, but not £1700 worth ! This however wouldn't be an option in a touring caravan of course.

      That the air coming out blows to the left so you have to turn the unit to the right of you van to get it to blow air down the middle of your van 🚐
      Also if you turn the unit off when it’s plugged into AC it still consumes 70w electric ⚡️
      Also the hot air coming out leak’s out and mixes with the cold air
      And makes the air outlet temperature rise up and the the unit then eats power

    If the aircon mode holds up for some 8 hours with the extra battery, how long will the heating mode hold up? I take it that heating will eat up lots more electricity.

    Hi thanks for the review! Do you know if there is anyway for the unit to circulate air without running the AC? For example if it is cool outside but warm in the van, I'd like to be able to circulate air but also be power efficient and not run the AC. I've noticed that the fan mode doesn't seem to pull in air, it just seems to blow around what is already inside.

    Do you have issues with bugs or other critters getting suck in the vent with out a screen wrap over it?

  • @jmrdrgz

    Really nice tutorial, but I don't believe that it dropped the temperature down in an hour without any help. From watching others, this doesn't seem feasible. At least I don't think my unit is capable of doing it.
    But I hope I am wrong and get surprised next time I use it.

      @@UrbanVanlife Well then, I hope it works like yours when I have to use it. When I did try it I didn't work it hard and on eco mode. Maybe Max might make a difference. Doesn't seem like the constant energy draw is that much more on max. On Eco mode the compressor portion does turn off for 10 minutes at a time to save power every so often.

    I
    Am wondering whether it would be ok to not add the large intake pipe. My rig is not at all airtight? Help? Thankyou so much

    • @Willriii
      @Willriii 9 місяців тому

      You can do that and it still works ( I do this when I'm too lazy to rig both hoses), but not as efficiently because the air you are venting to outside creates suction that will pull outside air in from every place it can. Its kinda confusing but there are two seperate airflows. The inside intake draws air in from the front of the unit and and cools it, which then exits top front via the louvers. The outside intake draws air in, runs it through the hot coils, then discharges it to the outside. Two seperate air circuits.

    Tell the truth mate
    That the air coming out blows to the left so you have to turn the unit to the right of you van to get it to blow air down the middle of your van 🚐
    Also if you turn the unit off when it’s plugged into AC it still consumes 70w electric ⚡️
    Also the hot air coming out leak’s out and mixes with the cold air
    And makes the air outlet temperature rise up and the the unit then eats power
    I’m on my 3rd replacement within 3 months of owner
    Anyone with this unit at home should be advanced to unplug there unit before the get a very expensive bill 💸 at the end on the month
    If you don’t believe me try it for your self

      Have you gone into the app and turned the drainage on from there? That’s what we did to turn it on, if you have already done this then maybe you have a faulty unit?

    😂Would work much more efficiently if the 2 ducts were as far apart as possible ideal either side of the van and the output works better aimed at the ceiling the cold air will drop without the draughts (blows your hair about Neil)

    Nice idea but sadly seems hugely underpowered and the vent tubes are a bit of a bodge imo the roof ac units are a nicer idea with plenty of batteries to power it. Unfortunately air conditioning is one of those things do it 100% or don't do it at all because anything in-between is just not worth it. Nice review though just my observations and opinion 👍
