HUGE THANKS TO MY MEMBERS
A movie about the characters from the D&D animated show could be great, if done properly. It would be neat to do a movie where the kids get pulled into D&D and are transformed into modern D&D characters. Then, at the critical moment when all things look bleak and they look lost there would be a deux ex moment where the parents all show up to save them; except the parents are the original, OG characters from the D&D cartoon.
Love it!!
That would be awesome.
I sort of want a Venger movie where the party is the antagonists
Great idea!!
I would certainly see it as it was my favorite show as a child and I loved it
A D&D film should be based on the 80s cartoon. Dougeon Master Venger and the 7 kids.
That would be great!
The Brazilian Renault car commercial was a perfect version of the Cartoon characters, and should make a D&D movie!
This screenshot is legit. It was straight out of a recent clip that was released about the movie.
Personally, this scene is what finally convinced me that this movie is going to actually be good.
I hope so.
I saw it Thursday. The cameo is legit. The movie takes place in the Forgotten Realms . The characters act just like they are playing out the whims of a group of players playing the game. Lots of place names, spell names used and spoken of from the game as well as names of creatures and magic items.
I got the same impression. They even break the game like players do. I told my wife that it was like watching a movie about people playing DnD, not a movie about the world of DnD
I loved the D&D cartoon when I was a kid, My wife and I both enjoyed "Honor Among Thieves". It was awesome to see the original characters, even if it was only a cameo!
It was such a great cameo!
Yes it’s real. Totally brought out the nostalgia in me. I can’t wait to see it now for sure!
I love the idea for sure!
Too bad that we have not seen them with their weapons, but of course Sheila kept her cloak. But also Uni the unicorn, and of course Dungeon Master himself. At least we got the Brazilian car commercial to enjoy it too
It is real, I watched the movie but, don't expect them to have any lines, or do much more than appear as background.
Thanks for the comment.
The movie was cool. Bobby the barbarian had a very quick snippet of action, but if it wasn't for the loud yellow on Eric the cavalier I would have missed it and they never give a clear look at the group, but when in the cage it's closer and obvious but still a very quick glimpse.
I hated they didn't show them outright but it was still very exciting to see them if just for a moment!
Thanks for the comment!
Just watched it and it’s 100% real. It’s a great film
Glad you liked it!
Have you seen the live action commercial that used the characters from the 80s cartoon? I've been waiting for a movie based on the 80s cartoon for years...
I have. It was great!
Well when I first borrow the dungeons & dragons movie I didn't think it was so bad but I was actually expecting and hoping it to be a movie based on the Saturday morning cartoon.
Can confirm it is real, Went to a early screening. I noticed it and told my other friends about it when it showed up.
Cool!
I noticed it right away in the movie . I started cracking up. Made my day .
Was great to see it.
Love it - I hope the cameo is real and is offscreen enough not to detract from the movie. I agree the lost traveler trope is really good for sci fi and fantasy!
Makes me want to dig up that cartoon. Probably didn't age well :)
Honestly? I've heard other people talking about this, hating on it in fact. But I actually like the idea of the movie being a D&D campaign. Kind of like an actual play, but the players are characters playing characters. Going back and forth between the real world, and the game world, depending on what's happening.
I am going to see it I see no reason to hate on it if I have not seen it. I feel you can not complain about something with out giving it a fair shake. it could be good it could be bad but until i watch it I will not know.
That could work. Similar to Bed Time Stories, Princess Bride, and others. Could totally work.
@@dagdamar2000 Sorry, I wasn't talking about the movie that's been made. This was an idea for a movie that people were bagging on just because they thought it was a horrible idea.
It's from the newest trailer. Thankfully there's no Uni shown.
I can't find them anywhere in there... maybe I'm watching the wrong trailer...
@@RevKev If you look under the Paramount Pictures channel, it's a clip called 'Let the Games Begin!' Was posted 3 days ago.
Technically not a trailer.
Your comment on being otherworldly, is exactly right and it's been the Hollywood problem since the 90's probably. That's why the 80's had the best "D&D" movies. Cheesy sometimes, and certainly by today's standards, but still the best ones out there. Hollywood is only about agenda for the most part, and our world, sadly. Even their lines don't match the fantasy they come from most of the time and they banter very weirdly and almost angst-ishly like today's world too. Sad stuff!
That's also part of what killed Willow, should kill Wheel of Time too, and will continue to kill fantasy gaming TV series and movies, very likely, for the foreseeable future. Thank you sir! 👍
Thanks for the comment!
1. The movie is the new players handbook. Instead of handing a new player a 300page book, they watch the movie and they have all the setting information they need for the Sword Coast. This is also Hasbro's effort for blocking Tal'Dorei from being the DEFAULT world (as it was starting to become - no one ASKS to play in Faerun but I do get players asking to play in the world of Critical Roll).
2. This is the Proof of concept. Much like Iron Man 1, it proves that when we try and spend some money, we CAN make good Comic Book, and now, a good D&D movie... We CAN have nice things when we don't Half-ass production and writing, like we have been doing.
Thanks for the comment!
Only one talking about this awesome Easter Egg!❤❤❤
I loved the cartoon as a kid!
Saw the movie, quite good. I saw the Cage scene with them, but wasn't paying attention to that pic or the Maze run either.
Funny thing about this is, is I was thinking how the Unaired finale should have been made instead.
Or (not holding my breath) if there's a sequel, the unaired finale should be that very movie. Live-Action.
Glad you liked it.
The cameo is real. IMDB Full Credits show there are characters named PRESTO, ERIC, BOBBY, SHEILA, DIANA and HANK. Also, following official film clip from Paramont Pictures shows them ua-cam.com/video/syU2tunI8eA/v-deo.html
Very cool!
I love the music
The Dungeons & Dragons cartoon series was a few years before I was born, but still this excites me as if I were familiar with the show. I thank the Baldur's Gate games for getting me into everything D&D related.
I'm actually playing Baldur's Gate now on my ps5 :)
@@RevKev Sweet! Get ready for the third one this year on August!
They should do a movie on the original as long as Peter Cullen is still alive I'd love to see the live action Venger riding his nightmare
That would be awesome!
I was hoping to see Drizzt or Bruenor because of the setting being never winter and icewind Dale but the cameo of Hank, Sheila, Diane, Bobby, Eric and Presto blew me away. I'd rather have them now
I wasn't to enthused about the the movie and bringing in the cartoon characters doesn't do anything to change my mind. I'm more in to the Conan type of game.
Which game is that?
@@RevKev anything low fantasy. Human race only. If I play high fantasy. It's elves, dwarves and halfings only. Nothing more. 5E is to much like mideval Star Wars at the Mos EisleyCanteen. To many races running around. GURPS is my go to game system. But I'll play about anything (That's not D&D.)
Fear not Ranger, Barbarian, Magician, Thief, Cavalier, and Acrobat!
To be honest it was more cosplaying extras more than a cameo. No Uni and no gear that the 80's cartoons had (the bow, Bobby's club, cavalier's shield).
No one was allowed weapons at the start of the game that they're all participants in, during that scene.
There are some more photos to be had and they are listed (without the classes) in the cast at IMDB. I also don't think it's just a visual cameo. My reason for this is Diana is played by Moe Sasegbon who is an athlete (track and field hurdles, high jump...). She has a short acting career, but so far her athleticism has been used in every project she's touched.
So I think they will have some role to play in the film (albeit a very small role like Richard O'Brien in the D&D movie from 2000)
That would be amazing!!
Oh, and the Serious camp doesn't want a movie that is serious (versus fun). They want YOU to take THEM Seriously.
i can tell you that i took a snippet just like that from the most recent trailer when they announced tickets pre order and shared it on my discord with my dnd group.
Cool!
I'm in the middle, we can have both high fantasy and it be fun! Though on close inspection... as much as could see in the trailer... their costumes seemed kinda cheap, the opposite of what we saw in the Renault car advert from the other year! That said, I'm glad they decided to add the gang from the show into the movie, I just hope it's not to kill them off in this segment of the film!
Now if they're trying to Appease both sides (know it may sound as if I'm walking the fence), but have two movies where it's like the one being put out, and two in the style of the other side. But either way, one of those movies should be the unaired finale of the 80 cartoon.
I love your book collection 📖👍
Thank you!
That's such a cool idea for a cameo, I'm kinda bummed to know about it ahead of time (don't worry, I heard this elsewhere first haha). I would enjoy a live action D&D show based around the cartoon characters but I wouldn't want it to be serious, more fun. It would be weird to see a game of thrones style show where the unicorn "Uni" is beheaded haha. But YES to a serious Dragonlance show!
Glad I didn't spoil it. I realized after I posted that this should have had a spoiler warning.
@@RevKev no worries! Have a great day!
Ooh awesome
I like what I see in the new movie.
I also want high fantasy and hope they do a Dragonlance adaption.
I hate the mix movie where you have real world and another one. To many movies in the 80s did this and it literally never worked
I'd so love a really well done Dragonlance series. I've heard rumors of a TV series being made... may do a video on that soon.
@@RevKev a friend of mine said there's an actor called joe manganiello who is a huge dragonlance fan and has been trying to make a netflix show
Thats the one I heard!
@@RevKev so scifi4metv saw the movie last night, said it was fun and family friendly and confirmed a cameo for the cartoon gang as well
Bring back the Saturday morning cartoon style.
Amen!
is a easter egg in the movie
Ah yes the ones that dungeon master sent. Ranger wizard acrobat thief barbarian and cavalier. If I suppose they still exists It can only mean that is venger is still alive. When venger lord of evil is vanquished these souls can return to the realm they came from Powers gone time past removed. Returned to Youth but their wisdom and skills will never leave them.
So says the dungeon master the ruler of the realm of dungeons and dragons.
What they should have done is cast the characters in their late 40s/early 50s... Still trying to get home
That would have been aweseom!
I LOVED the movie ❤
Glad to hear!
As someone who has had the chance of watching already the movie, it's real. You're going to love the movie.
Cool. Thanks for sharing!
Honestly, seeing them in there made the whole movie for me. Was just going along but then Cav’s yellow tunic grabbed my eyes like a lightning rod.
It made me accept the whole movie as the same universe as the old cartoon. I knew I wasn’t going to get DragonLance.
I was hoping more of vox machina cameo
:)
The movie was lack luster and the only highlight was the D&D cartoon characters cameo...
I found it tried too hard to copy Marvel movies....
0:45 dope pic
YUP!
The 3rd group you didn't mention are wondering whether WotC will be shown in the movie setting the OGL on fire and gaslighting their audience. Sine they have a druid turning into a bulette, they probably burned the original Monster Manual as well.
LOL! Thanks for the post!
Yes I think it’s real
I think your idea is cool
Thanks!
I'm in the more serious camp. I'm tired of the silly billy banter style comedy in modern movies. I would love a film with the cartoon cast in though. The ginger girl from IT would have been perfect casting as Sheila.
I prefer serious as well.
For years D&D have avoided the original Saturday morning cast that made it a hit... Stupid film makers.
If love to see that cartoon get a continuation :)
Just saw it. Cameo is real. You’ll also see them in a cage in the maze.
Is a good cameo or will it make people that watched the cartoon angry?
Thanks for the comment
I saw it on Sunday and it is 100% legit and awesome. The movie is delightful.
Glad to hear. Looking forward to seeing it.
Its real
Thanks for the comment (:
One problem I found in the trailers for the movie is that they put comedy in this, and it takes away from the seriousness of what D&D stands for. Making a movie out of game usually does not work. Look at Clue? Even it is now a cult classic? It did not do well at the box office. Clue is a very serious game on solving who murdered the victim with what weapon in which room. Making it as a comedy did not really worked. Making it like Lords of The Ring type movie would have been better. Look at how that film was made? It was serious, no comedy, but it was still fun to watch.
Great comment! I would prefer a serious tone fantasy with some humor.
Seriously? It’s a Board Game! And for D&D, it has a crapton of stuff associated with it!
So a Cameo from a Bunch of Cartoon Characters is Fine! They only get about 12 seconds of combined Screentime an that’s all it is!
The actors in the Brazilian car commercial were better. And I see they race swapped Eric.🙄
That was a great commercial :)
Yes it's real, here's the trailer with them in it. ua-cam.com/video/syU2tunI8eA/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ParamountPictures
Thanks for sharing! I haven't seen this!
The costumes look like low quality cosplay. Just a cheap tactic to get nostalgia to put butts in seats. No thanks. Loved the 80s cartoon but Hollywood has a habit of destroying everything they touch. Hard pass for me.
Thanks for the comment!
Relax, the characters don't even talk in the movie and just in the background.
