I’m having to do this myself now. Ex used to take care of the bikes. Now it’s my turn. I appreciate how you describe the process. Looking forward to learning more. As this is just the beginning for me. Thanks!!
With new plugs, I put them upside down in the socket and tighten the top tips with pliers, I have found them loose right out of the box. Bad connection right there. At least check them! Used plugs, if they are burning good, I often clean the bottom with my wire wheel on the bench grinder till they look like new. Anti seize, check gap, dielectric grease, torque, and ride. I replace them when they start wearing down, or if they don't burn right. Been doing this for many years. Today's ignitions, fuel systems, wires and plugs are far better than those of several years ago. Also, a lot has to do with how you ride!
Bro, changing you plugs is way easier than doing it on my cruiser. You’re way better off with new plugs and always good to check the gap. Ride safe bro.
What is the Champion or NGK equivalent for a Harley brand plug for a 103 twin cam? Cant seem to find it on line and heading to the auto parts store to pick up a couple plugs to change when I do my oil change. GOOD video; probably would not have done the anti-seize or dielectric had I not watched it.
This is a great video!!! Very informational. Looks easy to do, just gotta make sure you do all the proper procedures to make it right. Be safe out there bro.
Usually if I am running more mods when more fuel is needed, yes better plugs that run hotter or have more spark to help burn things. Stock it isn't needed in most cases.
I should've clarified in the video about specialty plugs, cause hotter or colder is definitely a must have if the engine is built for it. I mainly meant those dumb multi tipped or miracle plugs they advertise sometimes... like the E3 plugs etc
AUTOT3K HCL ok, makes more sense with that. Some of those do work but for situations like I mentioned and some are almost not noticicable. Usually a higher output coil is needed too. Using a regular style plug works just fine even at higher performance.
I’ve been dealing with spark plugs for a while now. I never knew about gapping until my bike just misfired & it’s rhythm has been off. I’m curious about you saying “if you drop them. Their done” Can someone tell me why? Thanks for the vid btw! 😁🤘🏻
so i bought a used 2013 dyna bob. 3k miles. had a full service after i bought it but i noticed it pops and crackles a decent amount. think it could be a plug and wire issue? should i go ahead and change both. not sure why dealer didnt recommened a change
Pops and crackles when you let off the throttle and are decelerating? That's not spark plugs, thats due to the exhaust. Pops and crackles when accelerating... Definitely check the plug condition
Anti Seize...dang .you put a lot on those plugs..When I worked with a race team on off road car..We would never put antiseize on plugs..Somehow someway antiseize finds a way to get in to the gap and foul the plugs..So..perhaps a touch of antiseize..But 🤔🤔
Changed both plug's and wires on my 103 twin cam, now she runs really rough. Sputtering and back firing. Any suggestions what may be happening? She ran amazing prior btw. Thank you in advance
Austin Williams you are right about service manual, but today new spark plugs are made with zink-chromate plating that provides superior anti-corrosion and anti-seizing properties (on the box: do not apply thread lubricant - read installation section below). And if you lubricade you could over torque.
Change mine out on my CVO Breakout the other day. They screeched and screamed on the way out. Dealer must not have put anti seize on the threads. Grrr.
the simplicity of swapping plugs is one reason i prefer twin cam over the newer M8's that require 4 plugs and removing the fuel tank 👍
With tutorials like this everything seems so easy now no more dealer for me thx sir!

Thanks, dude. Ed Zachary what I was looking for. Ride safe...

Im not looking forward to when plugs are needed on the fj09... those are in a rather tight spot haha
Subbed. New owner of a 18,000 mile 14 fat Bob . I almost picked the Tracer 900GT. Coming off a 19 crf450L
Dude great tutorial...confidence level boosted! 🤘🏾
Your spark plugs are way easier to get to than mine. +1 for Harley 🙌😉 good walkthrough!
Haha I'm not looking forward to doing them on the Yamaha!
Just changed mine following this video. Thanks

They’re made of porcelain. If you drop them they will crack or break easily.
I always called them spark plug wires. This is the first time I heard them called cables.

what plugs did you use

Ever figure out what was going on with your bike after the change?
@@10lhskater The new plugs that I installed were no good. Replaced with screaming eagle brand plugs, and it's awesome 👌
@@rc_oldguy awesome!
can you tell me the brand of anti-seize you use?
Looked like a permatex jar
I alway by the harley ones and never ever start them with a wrench or hot haha
Ive seen what happens when someone used an air tool on a hot plug... the plug came out... but so did the threads in the head haha!
No way I'd use a torque wrench on plugs. I turn 90 degrees after finger tight.
Do NOT use anti seize......read on the box, never use anti seize, torque dry.
the twin cam 103 service manual definitely says to apply anti-seize to the spark plug threads.

HOW ABOUT THE OTHER TWO???
I see you have a Milwaukee 8. Sadly this video does you no good
I have a 103, it has four spark plugs. This video doesn’t show the other two. Which requires the gas tank to be removed.
