Thanks for posting and the numbers added were enjoyable also. Couple of those looked like the seller might have been a little proud. Nice videos of the Florida sale. Thanks again.
Excellent well done video I really enjoyed watching that and especially the numbers I am very surprised that the owners did not accept the high bid on many of the vehicles they have an overinflated opinion of the market and what they have but if they keep trying and eventually they'll come down to earth and reality what are sold cars we called that the owner is in la la land thanks again
@@gordon717 I sold cars for the best part of 20 years and one of the games we would play when we were waiting for customers to come in we would take out the black book and I would call a car to you and you would have to give me the average book without add-ons and believe it or not after you do that for years you get to know the prices I guess that all your cars that you featured and I was very very close at what they highest bid that was put up and came in thanks again
In the car business, there's a saying. "You've got a firm grip on that car." Seems like more than a few people figured out that the market doesn't care how much you have in a car or what you think it's worth.
A family friend bought a Chevelle off a guy that bought it through Mecum's a couple years ago, he paid nearly 60,000 for it, he had shipped and upon getting it home home and putting it on a lift and inspecting it, it was obviously a poorly done quickie resto to re-sell/flip at Auctions such as Mecums, it had a lot of rust repairs that were poorly done, it was falsely represented as a rust free/straight untouched body. You gotta be careful of what you buy, a lot of shitty people out there out to make a quick buck
Mecum is well known for this sheet, but Barrett Jackson has also had it's number of flops too. Hear about em almost every year. When an Auction house will not allow you to inspect the under side of a car, FOR SURE Red Flag.
Some fine examples and great video. Cost of restoration doesn’t always equate to value and most of these cars I guessed within 10% of high bid. It’s important to understand it’s not the value of the car. It’s a car an individual connects to and comps that drive prices. In our current climate it’s not the car that’s worth more, it’s the dollar is worth less.
I like how some people complain about classic car prices being ridiculous If they ever built one, they would understand it. Just think a new Ford super duty is over $100,000 now😂😂😂 people are paying $300,000 for a new dodge demon
They have to be high if they think that custom Mustang is going to go over 200K. Christ, you can probably get a matching numbers Boss 429 for that much money or less. Plus, it looks hideous.
BECAUSE THE OWNERS ESTIMATED PRICE IS WAY TOO HIGH, 60-80 THOUSAND FOR A 67 GRAND PRIX CONVT, COME ON MAN, EVEN CORNPOP KNOWS THAT IS INSANE! AND HE WAS A BAD DUDE.
I love how the sellers place a Reserve and don’t get it.. Proves what they have are overpriced. Should not be allowed at an Auction… Delusional Sellers !!! There were some great deals on late model cars and trucks.
Maybe when someone modifies or restores a car for tons of money, it better be for your own love and not for profit. Maybe the most desirable car is a “driver” where you can enjoy driving it instead of just looking at it.
@@gordon717 had a 78 mark 5. didn't know they had used used that name before. always thought the mark name plate was used for luxury 2 door sport model Lincolns

I want to know how many of these sellers bought high and "invested" too much money modifying or restoring these cars and they're desperate to break even lol
All offers were more than I would pay because there’s 10% buyers fee, sales tax, insurance and registration, plus “care and feeding “. I used to have a nice collection. Now I collect art, which I can enjoy IN my house, and the care and feeding is just a nail in the wall.
there's a big overhead....like the venue there using....setting up cost, big tents everywhere, and lots of drivers moving the vehicles back and forth....but I found Mecum Merch isn't cheap ether, and the price to get into the auction was $30, and parking was $10 (and if it rained the parking field is a big mud pit)
Car auctions are a good example of the greater fool theory. GFT means that it doesn't matter what I pay; some greater fool will come along and pay me more.
I thought the market determined value. Who does the estimating? These prices are always in flux. Maybe those who'd pay those higher valuations missed the auction..
I think Mecum determines the value of the vehicle...but all in all this was a great auction...can't wait till the end of July for another Mecum Auction in Harrisburg, PA
Rarity is what should be high dollar such as 4 built 1 of 2 existing. Not 50,000 built and half of these so called muscle car restorations are a rip off. I'm in my 70's and doing a copy of the first new from 1966 prior to visiting sunny southeast Asia. Every system has been refurbished, repaired or replaced, The car is essentially like new with a few minor modern upgrades. Investment around $16K. It will be a daily driver and also pull a vintage Scotty camper a few hundred miles every month. I look at these shiny cars and laugh at the prices. Can you imagine going to a cruise in or show and sitting on the fender eating your lunch off the hood or letting a 4 year old stand on the seat with a big old steering wheel to play with. I do that kind of thing all the time. My previous '48 at a cruise in a little old lady asked to sit in the car and got in the back seat. She got comfortable, closed her eyes and had a beautiful smile on her face. I wonder what she was remembering as a young lady just after WW2 in a car like that. That's what old cars are for.
Sellers thinking they're getting estimated value. Better get rid of that old stuff while you still can. The younger generations want a car that doesn't have any oil to change.
Many of these cars were considered quite ordinary when new, not particularly popular. A new coat of paint doesn't change that, and I'm not sure just being old makes a car collectible. Additionally, there is the market to consider. There was a period in the US where someone made some money, more than they needed, and didn't want to spend on a yacht. So, they added an out-building or a six-car garage and bought up a bunch of cars they drooled over when they were 14, so they could brag and bore other old farts about them. Well, here's the update. Those guys died. The wife sold the house and garage and moved to Florida, putting these buckets up for sale. And she doesn't ever intend to see or deal with them again. The funniest comment here so far is the one that says you don't understand how much money guys will spend into the restoration, or worse, the modification and distortion, of these cars, so they have to be worth more than shown based on the money poured into them. No, that doesn't make them more valuable, it just defines someone's pet money-pit.
I don’t what know what caused these ridiculous prices but I am started to think it is some kind of badge of honor or status symbol to announce/brag you are successful to pay these ridiculous prices. Goes with the ridiculous money spent on some of the car builds you see, don’t get me wrong I love cars but not that much.
Well, you’re not a real car guy why are you even looking at these videos? Besides the fact you obviously don’t have that kind of money to spend on a car

I assume its both a 10% sellers fee AND a 10% buyers fee on the sale. When you add the sales tax/ and DMV fees these get pretty pricey.
