Very nice job fixing the variable cap there Nick. I like to fix things too like you. So rewarding when you get something to work again just because you fixed what you needed to fix, whereas others probably would through it out or replace an entire board. Well done. I Enjoy watching what you do there.. i have now a Marconi 2610 on the bench to be aligned. But a lot of precision instruments are needed. I think I’ll do as best as I can with what’s in my possession. Coming next… cheers Diego
Hi Diego, yes its always good to fix something like that capacitor, which most people wouldn't have bothered with, and sure it will last the life of the 8903. The Marconi 2610 looks like a nice unit, will be interesting to see a video, best wishes Nick
Bang up job on the cap repair. And .0045 vs .005 is splitting a hair other guy. After watching the first video, I was thinking that HP my have meant to say "at least .005." Their manuals were not without regular revisions.
Hi Danish, the manual is a bit ambiguous but the best I've seen after adjustments is 0.0024 % or 95 db.The capacitor was a bit of a triumph, touch & go at one point, but I'm confident it will last as long as the rest of it does or until I'm no longer around. Thanks for watching
Thanks Simon yes it is a fair bit better than the Rigol but not as easy to control unless you have it connected to a computer which doesn't appeal to me

The HP8903's source is a very low distortion output, I would expect far lower than the Rigel. Good job Nick.

thanks.👍🏻
Set 1 khz 1 v amplitude and Low pass to 30Khz. That gives lowest on mune I think. Ypo have a good RMS meter so a super AC calibrator is not required/
High Simon, tried 30 kHz filter, it gives a very slight improvement over 80 kHz, down to 0.0024 % or around 95 db
