  • The drive from Galbraith Lake to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, is a journey through some of the most remote and stunning landscapes in North America. This stretch of the Dalton Highway, also known as the Haul Road, spans approximately 150 miles and offers an unforgettable adventure for those who dare to explore the northern reaches of the Arctic. As you set out from Galbraith Lake, nestled in the Brooks Range, you'll be surrounded by majestic mountains, vast tundra, and an array of wildlife that calls this pristine wilderness home.
The scenery changes quickly from leaving Brooks Range. It transforms into the vast, open expanse of the Arctic Coastal Plain. This region is characterized by its flat, treeless tundra, dotted with small lakes and rivers. The stark beauty of the tundra, with its unique flora and fauna, is mesmerizing. The road crosses the Sagavanirktok River multiple times, providing opportunities to see migratory birds and other wildlife that thrive in this harsh yet beautiful environment.
Approaching Prudhoe Bay, the landscape becomes more industrial as the oil fields come into view. However, the sight of the Arctic Ocean on the horizon is a fitting reward for your journey. The feeling of reaching the northernmost point accessible by road in North America is both exhilarating and humbling. Standing on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, you can truly appreciate the rugged beauty and isolation of this remarkable region. This drive from Galbraith Lake to Prudhoe Bay is more than just a road trip; it's a once-in-a-lifetime adventure through the heart of the Arctic.

And peace be upon you. In the summer- June/July daylight lasts about 24 hours! Long and quite enjoyable. In the winter, same, about 24 hours of darkness in Dec/Jan generally. Thank you for watching!
