    The price of shelter has increased because there's a shortage of it. If there was too much, it would be cheap. The government paid people up to this spring to not work and the fact the population has been increased by 10% from all of the illegals since the beginning of 2021. Thus, there isn't enough homes and you have to pay a premium to purchase a home. At least now the grocery shelves are fully stocked, even toilet paper.

  • @sarbrit2024

    I think that you need to make owning a home less economically attractive. It probably starts with punitive property tax rate for corporate real estate owners. Then there needs to be more liberal permitting to drive down cost. Finally, technology needs to promote innovative building methods that require less expensive materials and labor.

      Btw the OPs comment isn't just talk, its more accurate than many people will ever know.
      The only reason I even know this, is because I'm speaking from first hand experience now.
      There's a Very clear change in mindset from when you're a renter forever, to when you finally own a place.
      No matter what the value of it is.
      I just bought a house; its falling apart, 100yrs old, under 800sqft-very small, everything is old and dirty-
      but it's mine.
      ..and now I have this mindset where I want to get to know my neighbors, that I couldn't give a rats ass about before.
      I have this urge to keep the front lawn and flower bed, all clean and well kept, sidewalk edged, trees trimmed -all of it.
      That comment isn't a hopeful scenario where it would be cool if life was that way, but doesn't REALLY happen...No, it's a literal phenomenon that actually happens almost instantly.

    I’m 26 and own a home. The secret to buying a home and being able to afford it each and every month is living within your means, and doing it with a responsible stable partner you have a relationship with. It’s impossible to afford a home on an average income if your doing it by yourself. You need dual income, and you need to save up a nice down payment. Unfortunately that’s extremely difficult now given the current political environment. Don’t be discouraged, change your lifestyle. Drive an old beater that owes you nothing, cancel those internet streaming subscriptions, stop going to the bar two time a week, cook and pack your own dinner/ lunch.

      @@ItBetterBeFast when you own a home that your paying for you gain something called equity. When you’re 50 and have your home payed off that’s money that you can have back if you sell your house. Everyone likes to blame the “boomers” for buying a home for 150k that’s now worth 500k. They are laughing all the way to the bank. That’s how life works. When you rent you own nothing. You can pay 2500 a month in rent that you will never see again. Like leasing a car. If you have no equity, you have nothing besides your personal savings or what equity you may have in a car. Most responsible people realize this. All I am saying is, buying a home isn’t impossible. It’s actually the best investment you can make.

      @ItBetterBeFast 7 місяців тому

      @@marlinnotfish I’m well aware of how it works. I have 2 homes. The issue is that houses vs income are vastly different than when the boomers were buying. For instance an engineer would come out of college making $20-$25k with little to no debt in the 80’s and a house would cost $40k. Now an engineer comes out making $70k with a lot of debt since school prices have skyrocketed and an average house by me starts at $500k…..the math just doesn’t work. And yes I will also blame the boomers because they’re the ones in congress running the country into the ground.

In 1970 you could buy a muscle car new for 4 grand now that same car is worth 100k in some instances even more.
