I honestly thought this was a Wes Anderson movie for a second? Those movies are like Studio Ghibli films for me. Always fantastical and different. I may enjoy this one. Thank you.
I’m glad that you decided to do a review for this movie, from watching your stream I feel as though this movie speaks to a point of view that you’ve shared. That things don’t have to be perfect but they can still be ok (or at least that’s that message I’ve gotten). I really like that and the style of this movie is really beautiful. This movie trailer reminded me a lot of Frankenstein. Would you do a review of Everything Everywhere All at Once, I wonder what you think.
Yorgos Lanthimos is one of my favorite directors and i've lost most of his films. This film is easily my most anticipated of 2023 and i'm so glad you enjoyed it and gave a well articulated review. Hoping it wins many awards this season.
The trailer for this movie did not help I honestly heard "Created as an adult but the mind of a child" while hearing that there are explicit sex scenes made me nope out the movie so hard But hearing this review changed my thoughts on this movie I might check the movie out
I found myself enjoying the movie more and more the farther into it I got, and by the end I genuinely loved Bella as a person and the life she had made for herself. Bella was a compelling and enjoyable main character throughout the movie, don’t get me wrong, but my biggest problem with the film happens in the first half. I don’t think the movie does enough to let the audience know that Duncan (Mark Ruffalo’s character) was abusing her more than just emotionally. When they start their sexual relationship she calls it “furious jumping” much like a kid who doesn’t know the terminology. Yes, she’s enjoying it, but that doesn’t mean she was emotionally ready for it. She literally has a babies brain, and Marks character fetishizes her because she’s acts like a kid or young teen when they first get together. I know it’s supposed to be dark and Duncan is supposed to be a pathetic loser and a bad person, but I still feel the movie did not do enough to show their power imbalance and instead only frame it as her journey of sexual exploration. I loved to see her grow in spite of him, and eventually realized he had nothing to offer. I loved her relationship with Toinette and how they stayed in each other’s lives. However, I just think that there are some significant missteps that kept me from loving the movie.
HEADS UP: this movie has very dark & disturbing themes! and not for everyone, but this is my personal opinion! OH and there’s A LOT of s*x scenes
Thanks for the heads up😅 cuz my parents most definitely always find a way to walk in at the worst time
