Fantastic breakdown with great video segments for quick reference! I've been producing for a year, and I got some 3rd party "do it all one-dial" plug ins with a subscription, but I really like there results I get using stock DAW components as of right now. Learn more using these too and I feel more pride when I get a good sound by using multiple stock plug-ins rather than flip this switch broad brush plug ins.
Thanks Jono, only just got around to watching this, but so informative, I will defo be using this thanks to you and have just the track to use it on, thank you.
great video! for my clarity, the compressor is keying off those selected frequencies, but compressing the entire signal (when those frequencies are present), yes? not functioning like a multi-band?
Depending on what filter you select (high-pass [HP] and low-pass [LP] are most commonly chosen). As Jono mentions, the kick is strong in low frequencies, so people often want to NOT compress that along with a whole group of higher frequency sounds that demand less compression by nature. Selecting the 'HP' filter in 'Side Chain' and setting the frequency dial to say 110hz, you are asking the compressor to work on all the 'high' frequencies (all above 110hz in the group). This allows the strong low-frequency kick to not be compressed, while the rest of the sounds are compressed and "glued together." That way your compressor doesn't work as hard across the group because it's avoiding the strong kick. Happy music making!
It’s be great if you could add a bit into one of these videos about which situations you’d use each of the modelled compressors in? I tend to default to the platinum or studio flavours so I’m sure I’m missing out on the others!
This is the best explanation of sidechain filter I have ever come across. Clear and succinct. Thank you!
Such a great communicator and teacher.Thank you.
Thanks Jono! 🙌
Jono rules!
Very nice tutorial and very well explained. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
man you are an awesome teacher

Another excellent tutorial, Juno. Thank you, exactly what I needed for my mix! When do you use the USD G bus vs the logic compressor.

Very useful information! Thanks! Loving your Logic Pro Tips playlist!
he's back! at last
This is a wonderful video. You explain very well
Awesome! Very helpful thank you

@@soulstuckinseth I feel like you could do this in multipressor? Bypass a specific band frequency? Or what am I not getting?
wow, this is gem

That indeed would be a great thing.
YESSS
How can this be done with external sidechain filtering with actual hardware comps?
Sir Plz do video about mixing mastering
Look for his Logic Pro Master Class in 2 parts, over an hour each class. Not on this channel.
wtf is with the last note of that intro song lol
the explanation of max and sum are a little hard to follow...
