She’s one of the few people who can do that. She knows that beneath that dark rage wrapped in a cape, there’s a man in there. A lonely, broken, hurting man who needed to grieve the loss of his son.
I think yall misunderstood it. He was referring to nightwing. He always catches the bat when he throws it at him, even with his back turned. It's what's in the comics
In the comics, its Dick who blocks it in the cave, not superman. Not sure why they changed that, especiakky since they ysed the same line from the comic about Dick blocking the throw. They kept the payoff, but not the setup
One extra scene from the comics that they don’t show here in the film was that when Selina shows up to the manor, she finds Alfred drunk in a corner, his way of grieving Grayson’s death. He tries to spring to action when he sees Selina and offers to make some tea for her, but she stops him and says that she’ll be the one taking care of him for once.
It’s weird how devastatingly realistic this is. With someone like Nightwing you’d expect them to go out in a blaze of glory, being killed by an armada or some kind of super weapon. But seeing him die to a hunk of metal thrown really fast shows the true mortality of these heroes. Robin probably thought it would knock him out at most. But seeing him actually die from something most of us would brush off as a pretty tame thing (in terms of superhero fights at least) reminds us that these really are just humans with mortal weaknesses
It reminded me about when Batman once talked about dying or retiring as Batman and he said “maybe it’ll be Joker or just some random crook who gets lucky” it’s so true, you expect Nightwing to die risking his life for his family not accidentally getting killed by one of them.
Its like Damian said "He always dodges/blocks it. He ALWAYS does.". He really expected him to just duck it or see it coming because he's always been able to just see it coming.
Why this part hurt immensely in the comics is cos in the comics it showed when this happened and Damian and Batman went up to Nightwing, everyone saw what happened and just stopped fighting, everything just went silent. They all knew he was dead and let Batman carry him out peacefully. The split between the so called heroes and in-mates while Batman is carrying Nightwing out of the prison is truly intense
aside from that, this is just such a not normal occurrance on every level. 1. on every other day the bat family work like a swiss watch and to the average villain appear to be running almost on hivemind. it's rare for them to be out of sync and almost unheard of for them to be at odds in the field. it's like watching an enemy spec-ops unit engage in intentional friendly fire and lose a commander in the process. 2. robins don't die easily, and as far as mainline continuity goes to date, the joker is the only one to hold the honor of murdering a birdboy. as far as most of these rogues are aware the bat clan is indestructible. people like Calendar Man have never come close to what they just witnessed happened at the heroes' own hands. as far as the B and C listers go, they probly just assume everyone wearing a bat or bird on their chest is 1/4 kryptonian on their father's side or something. 3. most of batman's rogues have grown a quiet respect for batman in their own ways. Ra's Al Ghul and riddler respect his mind. Joker respects his determination and the fact that he's almost as crazy as the joker is. ventriloquist respects and appreciates that batman doesn't forget that he's ill and not the one driving the car so to speak, etc etc., and while few if any know why he's batman they've all dealt with him enough to know that he's a single minded motivated entity on a longterm suicide mission that lives in the mask, unlike some heroes that just needed a set of clothes. the batman IS the mask, and whoever he "really" is, is in fact the "Costume" side of him. joker knows bruce is batman in multiple continuities and just doesn't care because bruce wayne isn't interesting, isn't fun, and isn't who he is, he's batman, the rich playboy is the "mask". even without knowing the bat is bruce or nightwing is dick, etc., the villains know the bat well enough to read what just happened: FRATRICIDE. in short, even the villains aren't so blind as to not see the well-oiled machine seizing, are watching someone they've basically just written off as borderline invincible go down for the count, realize they were literally just first-hand witnesses to "Cain and Abel" in front of their very eyes, and realize that Batman just lost TWO sons in one instant. He's gonna need a minute. and they're gonna give him that minute. because he's the Batman. he's EARNED that minute. and besides, if this guy dressed as a bat and fought nerve gas bomb wielding clowns for fun BEFORE... just WHAT do you THINK he's going to DO to the poor BASTARD that tries to PUNCH him NOW?? i got some brass balls on me, but i don't think even i got "Punch the Bat while his world shatters" balls. i like my spine INSIDE my torso where it belongs, thank you very much.
@@gourdguru This scene perfectly shows just how unrealistic it all is deep down, how fragile the human body really is - the only realistic aspect among the super-powered group, no amount of skill or gadgets can ever make up for it. Would also be realistic for the crazed maniacs to kick him when he's down instead of showing respect of cowering in fear, how many of theirs would've died as 'collateral' in the heroes' unfounded so called principled crusade on crime - which they're a part of.

@@latayesha Probably because it's still in the beginning phase of Injustice, Superman has not fallen that far and while the heroes are splits, they never thought they would kill each other. Nightwing is the first serious death among superheroes.
Seeing this scene in animated version is the closest to seeing the comics coming to reality. It just amplifies the fact that Batman treats Grayson more dearly than his own son considering how much time they've spent together since the start. Batman has his heart and soul broken countless times and he still gets back up, but this is an entirely different tier of pain for him.
I'd say Dick was his son, maybe not by birth but he is his son. Dick was Bruce's pride and joy, his most successful legacy, because Dick was able to become the paragon of justice without Bruce's obsession over the justice he never got for his own parents murder.
Or the fact he knows Grayson was trying his best to support and help his lil step brother on his path and he stupidly kills him during a fight with villains. It's probably extremely had to process for father.
I always hated this because Nightwing is my favorite hero, Dick was always Bruce's foil. Bruce broods while Dick jokes. It's why everyone in the League liked him. Killing him was symbolic in more ways than one. He's the only one who would have been able to get Bruce and Clark to talk. The only one they would listen to and respect. As for the scene, it's very powerful in both mediums for three reasons, the first is because Nightwing is known to the Criminals as the first Robin. They know he's level-headed, and they respect him even though they hate him. Second it shows that Damien is not only unable to control his temper, but also unable to restrain himself when he needs to be. Batman can't trust Damien to "do the right thing, because it's right." Lastly, it's the death of Damien's brother, Bruce's eldest son, and the relationship between Damien and Bruce. It's no secret that Dick is the heart of the Bat-family, and everyone knows it. That's why everyone just stopped. It's the first real witnessed death at the hands of a hero, and it shocked everyone. Thanks for letting me overanalyze.
For shit sake, what the hell is the appeal of Nightwing?! He’s got two little zap zap sticks and a motorcycle and that’s it!! Try Swamp Thing or Jonah Hex!!
I do like how for the past 20 years Catwoman isn't really written as a villain anymore but is an anti hero who genuinely cares about Batman and also fights crime in Gotham
Wow this is the first time that Bruce Wayne ever cry for dick Grayson's death ever since his parents were killed. That never happened in Batman the Animated Series
I love the respect the rest of the heroes payed to Batman when he's carrying the corpse. It goes to show how respected Batman and Nightwing were as a whole, which is what Damian never understood
In the end, I don’t think Damian meant to kill Grayson. I think he was a little brother, whom, stupidly, was throwing a hit at his older brother. Sadly metal sticks at that speed, especially on the sides where the head is weakest, is in most cases fatal.
He definitely meant to hurt him, each & every time. His only excuse is that he does it often & *usually* he blocks it. To the head, each time. Of course that would kill him if he never blocked it. There's no real sympathy from that end when he's constantly had that casual level of anger & disrespect.
@Dr. Mortis I think it's two things. Damien threw it, expecting Dick to block it. "He always blocks it" is what Damien said. If Dick didn't manage to block it I don't think Damien thought it would actually kill him. It was a fucked situation and Damien 100% felt remorse and even tried telling Batman he didn't mean to. Batman responded (understandably) poorly. But Bruce forgets (depending on the timeline) when he took Damien in, he was a cold, heartless assassin who wasn't capable of remorse.
It was actually even more of an accident in the original comics. When Damien hits Nightwing in the head it clearly concusses him but it wasn’t lethal… unfortunately when Dick fell down he landed his neck on a piece of rubble on the floor that broke his neck and killed him.
I think this is one of the best visual representations of the word "accident". Damian threw his baton with all of his might and in anger, but never in his wildest dreams did he think this was going to be the result. Nightwing always catches it. Dick always caught it before in the past, just not this time
The part that probably angered Bruce the most is that it was Damien. If it were some no name villain he could of just beat the shit out of him. But since it was his own son he ended up punching the crap out of the punch block
I agree. Bruce was also already being quite merciful by not beating the daylights out of Damien then and there. Too often in stories we see instant retribution. But I also think Bruce knew Supes and WW would keep Damien safe too. Would've been carnage otherwise.
This story is so tragic and fantastic! Joker realized he could never break Batman… so instead he broke Superman. The Man of Steel himself and Bruce’s closest friend. He made the world burn by breaking someone else’s spirt besides Bruce. Not only had Joker corrupted the purest person Bruce ever knew, but because of what Joker had done to Clark his actions also ended up accidentally making Robin kill Nightwing. Joker’s actions managed to make one of Batman’s son kill his other son even after his death. Joker had finally managed get to Batman by going after someone that didn’t just affect him, but everyone. He killed over 11 Million people, Clark’s wife and child, and technically also Nightwing and put the blame on Bruce for never getting rid of him once and for all. Ultimately by breaking Clark he also broke Bruce. Joker: *”Now that’s a punch line!”*
@@HashknightGaming there have been plenty of stories to humanize Superman without turning him into a fascist dictator which I may add is an affront to Superman’s Jewish creators who made him to be a rebuttal to Hitler’s idea of the Übermensch. Oh yes, Dick was his pride and joy, probably his most successful 'robin' ever, in both heroism and character. Kinda puts in all in perspective what he said about Dick to WonderWoman in Young Justice: WW: So he could become like you? BM: So that he wouldn't..
Craziest part is when Nightwing dies, everyone just stops. Heros, villains, everyone realized something f'd up just went down and all the costumes and secret identify stuff just faded away. They'll be other days for the superhero stuff, right now let Batman have a moment to mourn
Its very sad to see Batman crying, as the dark knight always keeps a strong and stoic demeanor, even when he loses allies or sidekicks, like Jason. But the death of Dick, certainly broke him 😢
Yeah. I think that of all of his surrogate, and actual, children, he was the proudest of Dick. In Dick, Bruce saw of of the best of himself. All the things Bruce could be if he wasn’t consumed by his mission and vengeance. Dick represents the best of everything that the idea of Batman could become.
oh god.. he's so gentle when he pick nightwing up... like he's afraid he's gonna hurt him more, even tho he's already gone. Damian you lil .... This is so sad.
You are in the heat of a battle to stop criminals and In your mind you think it was alright to throw your baton at him while he’s busy with another criminal. Cmon Damien, do better .
Real and seeing one of the faces of masculinity cry does something with me. Its like seeing James Bond or Kratos cry, they are always stoic/cold/calm so it hurts a fuck ton to see them hurt
I love how they make us think Damian already kills Dick at 0:30, given that his death will surely be covered in the injustice movie. They let him live for now - just for us to think he'll survive for once, but wait, nope, he gets killed anyways.
They say losing a child is the heaviest feeling of grief, even more than losing a parent or partner, for the average person. I’m surprised batman was even able to hold it together walking him out when nightwing was really his child
He threw at a metal baton at his brother's head with full force There's no accidents. He thew the baton and it hit the target, all seems intentional to me
I like the fact that Damian is really sorry for this. He didn't really mean to hurt Nightwing, he did it out of anger. And after Dick falls, Damian goes to his body immediately - he really cares about his brother. When Batman comes, he still tries to get Dick back to life, he says that he Always blocks it which means he knew that Dick wasn't supposed to die like that and Damian wasn't supposed to kill him, it means he didn't expect that with Nightwing's reflexes. And he is sorry to his father too. I like that.
If he was sorry, he wouldn't have done it. His tendency to always aim for the person's head should have been a known danger to a child that was trained by assassins. Yes he wasn't intending to kill nightwing, but the fact that he has such a tendency to lash out in anger and even use such a dirty attack against his own comrade is disgusting and I don't blame batman for disowning him for it. Damean doesn't use rational thinking or logic, he acts purely out of emotion which tends to be anger driven. Alot of people say batman failed as a father but I am of the mindset that damean failed as a son, he broke batman number one rule and tries to cover it with an excuse that nobody should buy into.
@Mysterio all I'm saying is that he's not sorry, if it had been a bad guy that got killed by that throw Damian would have said something along the lines of "who cares, trash like that is better off dead than loose in the streets". He wouldn't have expressed any regret over killing a bad guy, but he only regrets killing nightwing because he was an ally and batman true successor.

He'd literally leave them out of the mission.. Watching him pay the price in Injustice comics and even in this movie was the saddest.
I feel so bad for Damian in the Injustice universe, he's grown in violence, both in the league and in the batfamily, (Violence is still violence even if youre not aiming to kill). Fighting for everything, both in anger and affectionately, is just the norm for him. He's so use to being able to throw tantrums and punches and Dick just taking them easily and *laughing* at it like its no problem. Damian isnt an evil monster, he's a spoiled kid who didnt know better, there was never a doubt in his mind Dick *wouldn't* block the blow.
@@tek512 violence is a choice yes but when your a parent with a mentally ill traumatize cultified teen and you go "fight crime" you are atleast partially responsible for all the people that get hurt as a result. Looking for a parental authority figure. Ironically Dick WAS that for him(if injustice is anything like the main comics). He clearly misses Dick too and is grieving at him. Idk I read alot of Damian, hes not a monster, just traumatized. Obviously hes still responsible for his actions, but the adults around him are just as responsible as he is for not checking the behavior. For example for animated injustice, Dick experienced Damian throwing the stick at him in anger, and instead of correcting it he goes "Lol Damian has temper tantrums." As someone who deals with children, you need to correct those behaviors when you see them. And that translates to teens and young adults aswell. With teens theres only so much you can do but its like they didnt even TRY. They just saw Damian was violent and excepted it and tried to use it instead of addressing it in a real manner..
@@Beenisweenisthank you I grew up around violence and while I don't take it out on other people I certainly get angry and will go for walk, runs, or just an inanimate object you can't help it if it's all you've known. I see brothers fight all of the time it's only more dangerous here because he's an assassin and Nightwing was a superhero.
Violence is a choice. Damien meant to harm Dick every time he corrected Damien's bad behavior in Bruce's absence. Damien was a spoiled sport and had an ego the size of Jupiter and hated losing.
@@opticalraven1935 sure you can consider all those things true but the fault still lies in the parents and authority figures who continue to give him ways too be that way. If they completely cut him off from heroing, sent him off to a boarding school or something and Damian STILL came back and did the entire vigilante schticks without them I could give Bruce and Dick a pass. Because in that scenario atleast they *tried*. Cultivating those kind of behavior issues in violent settings will never work. Its why we have power hungry police and military personnel who have no value for civilian life. Bullies shouldn't be given that kind of power. And if you think the issue is Damian being ego driven and power hungry, then it still goes back on the adults in his life!!! For enabling that behavior. Personally I disagree, I dont think Damian is violent naturally, I think he's easily irritated and quick to snap. But I dont personally think he's a bad person. Either way the adults in his life are emotionally constipated and not dealing with this issue at all.
I think that's the saddest moment for Batman since the death of his parents because Dick Grayson was more than a crime-fighting ward, he was like a son Batman never had & always wanted.

“You stopped being my son when you killed Dick Grayson. He was my son!”
People seem to forget the fact of why Damian is the way he is and then expect him to just be different
Grayson is his son.

@@Agamemnon-w9x Grayson is is son, Damien is his child

I like the fact that Damian is really sorry for this. He didn't really mean to hurt Nightwing, he did it out of anger.

Its super sad seing batman cry with his suit on when he kneels down with selina breaking down
