That doesn't stop price gouging by the corporations ...so much so that Corporations and CEO's are price gouging in record high numbers. If people actually paid attention to how their members of Congress of the GQP vote , they would stop voting republican forever. The GQP always vote to protect the 1% and give them tax breaks as well as vote for themselves raises....we cannot vote ourselves raises, but we can unionize in big numbers.

Thank you for your videos. I am selling 50-60 years of stuff and several collections. This is my resell products. You also show things I have, so I know its time to post them. So thank you very much.
You're right about the Great Depression. My grandfather was an engineer who made a high salary, and he was working throughout the 1930s. If you had money you could live like a king in the 1930s, because costs were low, and if you needed help around the house there were many applicants.
Funny that there is even a conversation about how the economy is doing... Food and gas have been up about 30% in my area since 2019ish. Also, no, most people did not make that loss up with increased wages. In fact increased wages only made up a few % of that loss for MOST people.
Great points made Kevin! I stopped in an Antique mall today. I was shocked at the cost of items. A rusted 1lb coffee can was $20! I know those are old, but $20? So I kept walking. Working estate sales (bought 2 1 lb coffee cans for $1 each a few weeks ago), helps me find things more reasonably priced! They can keep the rusty can and let it collect dust. We use those old coffee cans to measure animal feed. Lol
I unsubbed because someone pointed out something I missed about Kevin, but honestly I don’t think he’s a bad fella all in all. He’s just made mistakes like everyone else.
@@ohiograssman1564 We all make mistakes for sure, but the info and deep dives that Kevin does on topics, plus all the knowledge he puts out by FAR outweighs any missteps he has made. Unsubbing to me just feels petty, but that's my 100% worthless take on it.
I think he takes it all in stride. The video had a ton of views, so he literally increased in subs despite the sour grapes. You'll never please everyone all the time, and to try is the only sure way to please no one at all.
I’ve noticed lately on eBay that as soon as I look at something an offer comes in for a lower price! I suspect that things aren’t selling as well as they used to! When I purchase it’s that the item that is for sale is exactly what I’m looking for! The price matters, and I will pass on it if it’s in my eyes to expensive!
Just for context, that's not a manual seller resonse, it's an automated response offer that that the seller added to the item as a selling strategy. A buyer might be able to take advantage of that setup by adding the item to their watch list to see if they get a lower offer.
Lately, I'm selling less items, but what is selling, are the higher priced pieces. That helps lessen the pain. My recommendation, is list higher priced items, whenever possible, to balance out the drop in sales volume.
Kevin you brought up a few different points that made me realize what an interesting intersection reselling platforms can be of folks living frugally and using reselling to supplement incomes and "make ends meet" and buyers looking to spend disposible income on wants, not needs.
I agree that thifting has gone up due to mandatory wage increases. I do thift for items, but that has decreased lately because of this. With the gas increase, to do the garage/flea market thing, it's like which is more evil. But I really do enjoy the people contact with the garage sales, I've met a lot of nice folks.
I feel some stores have raised prices because people are reselling or they are greedy. We have a local charity that even marks items higher than retail! A lady told me a story when she brought it to their attention, the lady that priced it came out and yelled at her. It is a charity and this all was donated!! I get there is overhead cost, but they have priced out many in need. They own lots of real estate locally too and help some. But it makes you wonder.
I am a small reseller - sell about $250 a week. This past week I sold $22 (6.00 being shipping). That is the only sell in the last 10 days. I do not rely on this money for a living, but as a supplement to help with utilities. I will not be using air conditioning until July. I am trying several ways to save money. This is so sad.
He knows somebody at the golf course who knows he resells, if I remember right, the guy at the golf course reached out to him and asked him to come and see if he wanted anything because nobody had claimed any of it in forever. I wouldn’t make it a habit to source lost and found items lol only when everyone pretty much feels like all the items are practically abandoned by their original owners.
The best part is you can take it at face value and literally try to source the lost and found at your nearest golf course. Or you can use it as an example of thinking outside the box and brainstorm other, similarly unorthodox sources of reselling goods.
I scored a Christmas lot at an estate sale, a woman who loved Santa and all things mechanical ❤ I bought it all for 200 and I am so excited to list it ❤
Kevin, you didn't give up your teaching career you just got a started a new class of reseller students! I love your videos because they're so informative. I appreciate hearing about the history you incorporate into the topics and how you include various opinions (and you do it with kindness). Thank you for teaching all of us.
1. It's a weird economy, savings are down, defaults are creeping up, but there are still jobs... mostly. 2. I just hit a new " high score" on eBay this week. Highest 90-day total in 3+ years of selling. And pretty decent overall, from my last 25 years. 3. My eBay ASP is down, but number of sales are up. I think the lipstick index is starting to kick in.
When I was in school, I actually did my dissertation on businesses that thrived in the Great Depression. Entertainment did well, as did manufacturers of personal care type items. Although one quarter of the population was jobless, that meant 75% of the citizenry retained employment. That's a lot of people, and a lot of buying power.
No economy is monolithic, and there can be many diametrically opposed experiences within the same period and place. But as you point out, trying to have personal agency and a problem-solving/willing to learn/improvisational mindset are key.
Hey Kevin, thanks for the good words I appreciate you and so many of the UA-camrs I follow b/c y'all have made such a difference in my life with this reselling. Without the extra income it's been bringing in I really don't know how we would be making it. That being said, this is my 2nd year of really working at reselling consistant sourcing and listing and my sales are WAY WAY up from last year at this time. For me it's probably mainly learning the ropes and refining my process, rather than any reflection on the health of the economy.
Hey Kevin great vid today! Don't worry about what others say about you! You have been doing this for a bit and you know what your saying!! This is a free world and you know your history more than others! You just keep on picking and enjoy yourself !! JIMBO
You are so insightful! By the I have exact same shirt!!! I love it, I get a lot of compliments on it! I am the manager of a large vintage vintage and antique mall in Loves Park, Il -Hidden Treasures Mall and Antiques- and we are experiencing an unprecedented slowness and we have found out that stores like ours are experiencing that all over the United States. I think people are not buying things they don’t need because of their bills groceries etc. being so high and of course many other reasons.
Hi Kevin & Kev's Fans. I've been watching your videos for about a year, and I'm still learning from what you share. I appreciate your work and your presentation. We're about 1.5 years into taking selling more seriously and trying to grow. My sales are down, and I know why. I got a little burnt out on listing, and I'm not listing every day and not as much every day. I've also slowed down on refreshing my items by relisting (list similar). There may be other factors, but I have learned that what I put into it is reflected in what we get from it. I've experienced the summer slowdown and expect it again this year. I will continue focusing on listing rather than sales. We sell mostly vintage & unique items. We also sell books and sheet music. Those items must be available when the right buyer comes along, which might take a while. It's a numbers game; the more you list, the more you sell Maybe you don't get the listing right the first time; take another look at the title, description, price, and postal information. It's all about sweat equity, elbow grease & all those horrible old cliches but it's mostly something you need to love doing. If it doesn't give you joy, it's a terrible way to make money.
I'm having a great year. Currently up almost 40% in gross sales, compared to this time last year. All I sell is media. 😃 Also, appreciate the mention! Thanks again!
Not everyone can do this, it does take a lot of hard work if your not willing to do the work then it wont work for you. I been on ebay a long time as a hobby and now tryin to go full time doing it and it takes alot on top of a full time job I am only part time ebay now and it it hard work! Cant wait till i hit that inflection point tho and can do this full Time I love it! garage sales, flea markets and antique booths LOVE IT!!!
Love your take on things. Me personally sales have been up over all. This weekend(mothers day) it is a bit slow. I am just going to push through and list what I think will sell and go from there. Thank you for all you do!
The people who are commenting about only selling things for a couple hundred dollars. That's awesome sells. There's resellers out there that don't get a couple hundred dollars on a sale. Even if the product sells for a couple hundred dollars. Different areas have different results. Like West Coast East Coast all different. Being grateful will get you everywhere you want to be in life in a positive way. If a person loves what they are doing, then a person don't work a day in their lives. Everyone seems to compare reselling with ebay all the time. There are other platforms that people do very well on. Blessings to all & many blessings your way.
Quite often people spout off before doing their historical research. I appreciate your perspective and that you have actually studied history. I do remember the gas issues during the 70s. I also remember the stuff going on in 2008. As far as reselling I do not buy sterling silver or any precious metal, unless it is "hidden", this means I pick it up at thrift stores, garage and estate sales where they have misread or didn't read the marks, so quite often I pick it up for less than $1.00. It is true the saying that goes "you make your money on the buy". If something is marked sterling at a garage/estate sale or thrift store, then you are probably paying too much for it as a reseller. Perhaps the disabled lady can make something that will sell - such as sewing etc.? I have a ton of ideas of things to do with sewing.
My sales are good. I sale a variety of items so that helps to keep things moving. I still pick up good items from my Goodwill and sale them. It’s good to have items from all price ranges to those with less money to spend. Reselling is an up and down business so you have to roll with it. I’m a part time reseller and enjoy a nice bump to my income. I usually listen to your channel but had not subscribed until now. Keep doing what you’re doing. 8:51
In October 2023 I had my 1,000 eBay sale after over three years of selling full time there. Today I have 1870 something sales, I saw where I was hitting a wall and shifted dropping my average sale from $34 to $22 but way more volume. I also am pivoting to convention and shows in person as well for other types of stuff. I didn't blame the market or economy but acknowledged I needed to change for the better.
Overall total sales are down, but the sales that are coming in are for much higher dollar amounts. Softball bats selling for $200 plus and vintage 1925 silver plated cornet for $400!
I think some people want to list and forget and today that hust wont work anymore for some things. We have to work harder with cross listing, finding new sourcing ways, and using different tools. My sales are steadily going up but i am working the system and talking to people all the time. The biggest problem i have seen is the lack of customer service from some sellers. This last month i have tried to buy things and ask basic questions and get no response. Or there are 2 pictures and no information so i know what i am buying exactly. I am not going to track you down if you cannot respond within 24hrs. Then i see people having 5 day handling time, titles with 6 wordsa and many other things ebay does not like such as all caps symbols in the titles. And this is just things i am actively trying to buy for personal use. Now things are odd with other situations such as glitches etc but i keep at it and making changes which has always helped me increase my sales. Your video has been a great help and i enjoy listening to realistic views that some people hust dont want to hear
I’m using the income from my Class A driving job to power my EBay & E-commerce biz. Watching your videos gives me SOOOO many ideas that I would have never considered. My business is really taking off. Thank you!
I'm seeing a real roller coaster right now. I've seen weeks I have 50 sales and weeks I have 10-15. It has indeed been brutal and it's been brutal in my day job as well. All companies are tightening the belt, even the most lucrative.
I mean reselling is like selling stocks, the prices go up and down due to factors in the world. Being able to adapt is essential. We make money by putting in effort that other people don't want to put in, if more people want to put the effort in then we will have more competition, its the nature of this field
So I have never commented. I honestly feel it is sad at how many other sellers feel they need to be keyboard warriors and put other sellers down. That said please continue with your history lessons. I love your insights. I love learning not only what is selling but the history aspect thrown in. Thank you for being you. On a side note I know you do 50/50 with St. Jude. I love that but wanted to give you a couple related non-profits I highly recommend as a Mom of a cancer survivor. St. Baldrick's for research and Make-a-wish just for the kids. Wish you the best.
LaserDisc is a medium with analog video and digital audio and is (hence the name) read with a laser beam. The Godzilla movie you sold is of a format commonly called "videodisc" that is read with a stylus, similar to a phonograph record.
My sales have been at an all time high, and i never expected this especially starting this year. My last 90 days on ebay is 34k, and 12k on mercari. Which is crazy since i mainly resell collectibles, toys, and some guitars. Things still do seem gloomy moving on forward but I'm very hopeful and also I'm getting extremely cautious what i buy to resell. I'm a picker and heavily rely on my local marketplaces such as Facebook and craigslist.
I think this economy is hardest on young families and fixed income persons. I'm a reseller w booth space. Sales have been ok. I make my rent and get a check. I like most thrift stores. I travel about 25 min away where I can hit 8 stores if I move fast. Lol. Good luck w all your enterprises.
I think it depends on where you live on how well you consistently find good items, I live in central California, there is an abundance of cheap quality stuff. I don’t shop at thrift stores, get all my stuff from flea markets and estate sales, thrift store prices are way too high. I actually have too much, so I stopped buying as much.
Another super important factor, that those who solely believe the “pull yourself up by the boot straps” theory, is algorithms. I spent the entire year last year studying the patterns so I could get back on top. Far more complex than the 101 stuff taught on most UA-cam. It finally is paying off. But the reality is, they can change at any second. All the way to the extent that some platforms favor sellers who take certain stances or do not speak their minds. It is very complex and will continue to grow that way. Current and future resellers will have to learn to play an entirely different game to stay competitive. It is exciting to me because I like a challenge. But it could also at any moment put others or even myself under.
Imagine being that sarcastic reseller who made the comment, the way he did, about how great his sales were….his pockets aren’t hurting but his character sucks. Who presents themselves like that amongst an entire community of resellers? Good for you buddy. I bet your mama is proud.
Timely message on mindset. Just yesterday I lost a good portion of my inventory and all of my personal belongings that I'd been storing for when I had a home and memories from when I had a home. I don't want to fall into a victim mindset, but it's taking everything within me not to throw in the towel right now. I had a lot of odds stacked against me at the moment, but I'm just too stubborn to give up! BTW I had that green glow worm when I was little. Wish I could hug him now.
@CommonwealthFlipper Kevin I thought of you, when we heard on the news that the house used in the Bull Durham movie is on the market for $6 million! Thanks again for the VHS tape of the movie. I learn so much from both of your channels.
Re: the disabled retired lady selling jewelry... An aquaintence who rescues and re-homes cats; sells at a local flea market, items that have been donated to her. Most people I know donate on a regular basis somewhere. If you can get the word out that you would like to try/ test different items for resale, many people would probably offer you items to sell. Maybe small items. The Crazy lamp lady reseller seemed to sell small fragile items. Also, you have the experience, maybe you could team with a person that can do the running around on the weekend but I'd too busy to monitor and prepare for shipping. Just ideas.
I’ve been having a really hard time selling items the last few weeks. Usually I sell about 2 items per day on average and now I’ve been selling like 2 items a week. I haven’t been getting any offers and it has been really slow when it comes to getting views. Hopefully things pick up…
My store was closed for over a month due to flooding. I’ve had it back open on eBay for a few days without listing a thing in weeks and I’ve sold several things each day. It’s crazy.
100% most do not have patience and as long as you know what your getting into before getting into then you won't set yourself up for failure or disappointment or stress!
These months coming up & right now are my busiest times with everyone getting ready for summertime! It just comes down to knowing what things sell, what they want. I’m NOT talking about clothing.
Yes, i agree you can make money during a depression or periods on inflation. But you need cash flow to make big buys that take time to sell off individually. Fortunately, i can do this. But am more cautios about buying now because a certain portion of the population just isnt buying now. They need money for necessities not wants.
The thrift stores have higher prices as you said and even other thrift stores other than Goodwill are selling online or having silent auctions. Yard sales are still places to find better stuff. Sales are still steady for me.
One thing I have noticed is what some resellers sell. I have seen a few ebay resellers selling their store out on Facebook. The stuff I saw I would not buy and would not try to sell. People have to sell what sells. Don't buy just to buy and list.
I have said this before but will post again, use a simple 1.00 wall calendar. Write each day how many packages you ship. Save the calendars and you will see a definite pattern hit every single year. This past two weeks being slower happens every single year. It must have to do with kids getting out of school possibly easter and mothers day expenses. No sure but what this will do is ease your mind that it is not permanent. With this said what we do is work harder through these periods to drive sales. The days of you just listing and depending on the item to sell are gone. You must help drive buyers to your ebay stores from outside media now. Same with websites. You are also going to have to spend money doing this! I also want to say I met a woman when I was young Her and Her Husband became super rich during the great depression. Now they were constantly in fear for there lives because of it at the time. He was a Mortgage Banker. Yep he repoed poor peoples homes that had mortgages Remember you were considered poor prior to 1940 if you had a mortgage!
I keep seeing stores that “aren’t selling like they used to” have antiquated items or items that aren’t trendy or collectible anymore. The successful people are flowing WITH the market, rather than fighting it.
High credit debt n high national debt tells me we in a financial titanic. The endless wars(since start from USA) I think have something to do with both.
30:49 That happens to me too. So interested and I’ve only been selling a couple of years. 35:09 😂😂😂that lost look on her face had me thinking pregnancy announcement 😂😂😂little sibling on the way😂😂and that ladies and gentlemen is how rumors get started 😂😂 36:48 Loving the quotes!😊
You are so lucky that you are not sourcing in SoCal. I pay twice what you pay and most of the time I have to ship to the East Coast. My sources are smarter and know the value. I’m thinking of moving to the South. One of my alter egos is Michael Bobby Ferguson the faith healer and gun store owner. I should fit in really well.
Appreciate all your insight. We Have had a pretty big slow down in sales but we are continuing to hustle and keep posting. Sourcing hasn't been a problem, it's posting all the stuff! 😂
My thing with eBay is that as long as you list everyday you will sell everyday and the more you list the more you sell and if you don’t list then you don’t sell. That’s it period
So the one thing about inflation, which is totally a thing more so recently and certain people/areas are feeling the pinch---that is all very true. However, as eBay sellers who many of us deal in used goods, that type of economy can provide really good opportunities to sell to people who normally buy new everything and in order to save money, become new customers. On the other hand, as the the economy fluctuates, it can provide opportunities for sourcing for sure. Under an economy with inflation, the goods I purchased years ago are worth more than it would have otherwise been. I am sure that trend will continue. Not only do I see it, but look at all the business posting record profits. No reason we can't be one of them with the right mindset and strategy. Good video. Thank you for posting it. I hope to meet you one day out sourcing. I'm a VT grad and love to see all the merch from there that you pick up around Bedford. I'm right up the road from you just past Charlottesville. Too much UVA for me personally, but I'll flip their gear too :)
I don't usually do it anymore but I bought a listing for 2 items on auction from another seller for $10 free ship and split them up and resold them flat price for a total of $30 plus shipping.
I've found out that the way I do my resourcing thru odd jobs ,cleaning peoples garages & Sheds, etc. I get paid to haul away their unwanted items . Sort thru it & donate the common items & the items that aren't worthy listing sale them for cheap ,while the items that are worth listing I do the research to make some great sales . Some of my customers are vtg. Collectors & others like some of the same items I like . Not all of my sales are fast , yet some of my items sale for an amazing price that keeps me looking for more ! I focus more on learning my research & what my customers are looking for in quality items . I don't a fortion $$ , I make a decent amount & try to learn grow at my pace .

Must say, I like these debatable topics, although not everyone is cut out to debate without letting their personal feelings affect their actions. And that is human nature for us. In looking at what you pulled for sales today, I had two thoughts on what drives people to buy. First, in looking at your sales, I am wondering if people are buying items that remind them of better times, or even items that comfort them. Second, people with extra cash are usually collectors, ie. antiques, vintage glass etc. In general, the younger generation of now, is impressive. They dont like debt, and to me that is impressive, mainly because our own Govt is not setting a good example. These topics could be debated forever, but I always say, it takes all kinds to make the world go round. And congrats on the new pup, he is adorable!

Lol
The biggest laugh I get from your videos is when you talk about the folks that unsubbed because of what you talked about. Ridiculous!! 🤣
Well, first you have to source those higher-priced items. Everybody would already be doing that if they could.
@@marycarlson8837 Of course, that's why I stated "whenever possible ".
I only sold two items this week. Extremely disappointing
Remember that time you sourced at the golf Lost and Found? That was the most genius idea ever. Thanks again for that idea it has made me $$$
do they even show you the lost and found anymore? I’d like to try that but they’ll ask what I’m looking for.
Awesome Video, I like how Humble you are and yes Family is always first...
My wife's grandmother came from money and didn't even know there was a great depression when she was a kid.
A lot of people have the wrong view of the great depression. They think everyone was in hardship and thats not true.
No doubt
This is a lie. Everyone alive during the depression knew the fuckery about during the depression
I scored a Christmas lot at an estate sale, a woman who loved Santa and all things mechanical ❤ I bought it all for 200 and I am so excited to list it ❤
Thanks for doing this topic Kevin! More please
Kevin, you didn't give up your teaching career you just got a started a new class of reseller students! I love your videos because they're so informative. I appreciate hearing about the history you incorporate into the topics and how you include various opinions (and you do it with kindness). Thank you for teaching all of us.
Agreed!!
The price gouging = high profits for companies & higher 401(k) accts!
100% it's not inflation when CEO salaries are 70% up from the prior year the biggest % increase year to year in over a decade
Omg...Poncho is PRECIOUS!!! Congratulations! 🎉
Life is good. Thanks
My take is, as a seller I have to change with the trends. There are also wants and needs. If you can find what people need, it is better.
I love the way you get your family involved great quote Turner. spot on.
Thank you for all you do!
super slow for me as well
I really enjoyed your last video and I am enjoying this one as well. Appreciate you man.
Nice to see you back w John
I source strictly from goodwill stores and the bins and do great. I offer very good prices so my stuff sells and I still make great profit
Furthermore take great pictures, don't buy stuff with condition issues and price things competitively
Replenishables. That's all that's really worth in this type of business. That's what we should search for.
100% those that are not willing to work harder are going to be the first to fail and quit
I’m using the income from my Class A driving job to power my EBay & E-commerce biz.
Watching your videos gives me SOOOO many ideas that I would have never considered. My business is really taking off.
Thank you!
Awesome
The Godzilla movie you sold is of a format commonly called "videodisc" that is read with a stylus, similar to a phonograph record.
price gouging is what's going on with these companies & it's being masked as "inflation".
Funny I was thinking hard times might help resellers, it makes sense.
Yes, travel sports are Expensive!!!
Land of milk and honey and high taxes. 😉
I listened to the eBay for business podcast. You were great on how you condensed everything in a small space of time.
2:00 the silent issue. I think I have two of them. One is definitely really rough shape. That's a good book.
Imagine being that sarcastic reseller who made the comment, the way he did, about how great his sales were….his pockets aren’t hurting but his character sucks. Who presents themselves like that amongst an entire community of resellers? Good for you buddy. I bet your mama is proud.
This is a good argument for not niche to one type of product
I get what you are saying its a strange economy and i am glad i dont have to sell in order to live full-time from what i make from selling..
Ive learned alot from you Kevin! I appreciate all that you teach us😎
Re: the disabled retired lady selling jewelry...
It’s crazy.
Nobody "needs" comic books...I knew that going in. I'm gonna sell like 1-3 a week, tops. It's all about patience for me. Great vid, sir!
Yep he repoed poor peoples homes that had mortgages
Remember you were considered poor prior to 1940 if you had a mortgage!
I find myself passing up stuff i use to buy just because its not selling anymore or there are 20 listed , you have to stay up with the trends
35:09 😂😂😂that lost look on her face had me thinking pregnancy announcement 😂😂😂little sibling on the way😂😂and that ladies and gentlemen is how rumors get started 😂😂
36:48 Loving the quotes!😊
You are so lucky that you are not sourcing in SoCal. I pay twice what you pay and most of the time I have to ship to the East Coast. My sources are smarter and know the value. I’m thinking of moving to the South. One of my alter egos is Michael Bobby Ferguson the faith healer and gun store owner. I should fit in really well.
Good morning, Kevin! Working in the garage and I hear you reading my comment, much appreciated! 👍
Appreciate all your insight. We Have had a pretty big slow down in sales but we are continuing to hustle and keep posting. Sourcing hasn't been a problem, it's posting all the stuff! 😂
Advertising is tedious lol
I always say you’ve got to ride the waves as resellers and everyday is a roll of the dice!! Lol
Some Resellers are doing a bubble also , if you find some for a dollar $ why ask 50 o 60 top price for it 😅😅
My thing with eBay is that as long as you list everyday you will sell everyday and the more you list the more you sell and if you don’t list then you don’t sell. That’s it period
This week was very good, but overall, it's been slow for us. The crazy part is that our higher priced products are our best sellers
The comic is the first appearance in a comic book of Snake Eyes. The buyer got a great deal as that book should have been $100+
Great job Kevin as always 😊
29:14 I have a black cat myself and I could be a bit nervous having those glass birds on the corner of the table like that! 😂
I enjoy watching your videos and am picking up many tips for reselling. I'd like to hear more about your great great grandfather Pancho!
Don Pancho Rosendo III. He had no teeth. Sat in a rocking chair on the porch in Cuba. Seemed like he was pretty chill from the pictures. 😉
@@commonwealthflipper my parents were from Cuba. My father's grandfather lived in the US in the 1890's and was postmaster for a tiny post office in Atlanta.
