I'm more upset about having to accept unfair feedback from buyers with Ebay being notably unhelpful.
Yeah, dishonesty is the worst.
Same
Yup!
Real person here - not an ebay employer!!! :) The best way to fix it is to become a top rated. Yes, you have to offer free return, but: 1. 100% bad and neutral feedback removes by ebay, 2. So easy to get help from ebay if needed (MUCH faster), 3. Small ebay discount on final fees, 4. You can give a partial refund to buyer if something comes back not right. Once I got back completely ruined item and refused to refund the buyer. Ebay gave me a full refund. Ebay takes care of you and the buyer if you a top rated. When I get a return once an while, I always think of all the benefits I am getting and stay calm.
ebay feedback removal is facilitated by AI. Take this into consideration the next time you contact them. Be sure to bring up how the feedback violates ebay policy and thus is eligible for removal. Bring up certain ebay policies, whether they actually apply to the feedback in question or not. If you do this correctly, the feedback will be removed in minutes.
I feel like the fees are an “it is what it is” kind of thing. Unless folks want to spend the millions of dollars on building their own platform like eBay has done, they’re going to have to learn how to source inventory in a way that allows them to be profitable.
People complaining about fees should try running their own independent online store and see how they do. My family ran their own business for years and we spent much more time behind the scenes than actually selling. I’d gladly pay fees and do less accounting and marketing.
Sorry but that makes no sense. Accounting is not that hard. In fact that is the easiest part of running any business. What is hard is sourcing merchandise, handling massive deliveries, issues, returns, organizing / storing goods. None of which eBay does for you yet charges exorbitant fees as if they do. They can charge these fees because these are established monopolies and small independent stores can not complete with a company that has monopolized marketing.
We have an online store and pay outrageous amounts on advertising.
I will gladly pay the fees
If you had your own website you would not be paying almost 30 to 40% in fees... You would 100% do better with your own website.
I agree completely.
At least if you have your own online store, there is no VeRO harassment, no censorship (can sell any legal product, including Dr Seuss books and Aunt Jemima cookbooks), and no throttling or shadowbanning or hiding listings, and no "promoted listings". We pay a high premium to eBay to sell and make money, but also to be abused. States have sales tax reporting and remittance threshold limits, a small store may never hit most of them, and there are services like TaxJar that can handle it for a price.
I totally understand the fees can be a kick in the butt, however, if it wasn’t for eBay we couldn’t sell most of this stuff so quickly and for the prices we do. eBay brings the customer to us. We have to remember that.
Except they have a hard time doing that. eBay as a whole is not growing, in fact it's doing the opposite. They are losing millions of buyers and sellers every year.
@@AK36677 where are you getting your information?
They do it because people were selling stuff for .99 and the sales price was the shipping quote
The only thing that bothers me is when eBay charges fees on the taxes!! I don't think that should be legal.
When you use your VISA card at Walmart, Walmart pays a fee to their credit card processor based on the total amount of the sale (which includes sales tax). Some States do not collect sales tax on "shipping charges". I hope eBay is accounting for those States correctly. Some States do not collect sales tax on clothing. I hope eBay accounts for this when somebody sells a "wedding gown worn by Princess Diana".
@@wizloon9052 Yeah, well sales tax here where I am is 13.5%, and I think eBay charges fees on that which I think is insane, yeah, shipping and the sale, sure, but it's not like we get the taxes basically. LOL, the taxes on the gown would be nuts, it sold at auction for more then 2 mil!
I've been saying this for a couple of years people are just now catching on the fact that eBay makes fees on top of sales tax money you don't even see and they also collect the advanced promoted money which could come to 20% so if you're a seller like I am that sells over a hundred thousand dollars of sales eBay is taking an extra $1,400 from your pocket of money that you will never even see I think eBay should be collecting a fee like credit card company still around 3% not the 20% they're getting from me all the time the 13% plus the extra 7 or 8 for my promoted somewhere down the line there will be a class action lawsuit
People always want to complain about fees, but do not have another solution to get their item in front of millions of buyers.
I wanted to add this to your video. Besides selling on eBay, I also have a small quilting business. In order to purchase large amounts of fabrics and supplies at a wholesale cost I have to have a state resale license (I live in Florida). When I sell a quilt to a fellow Florida resident, I must charge them the Florida sales tax of 7% and my county tax of an additional .5% (7.5%). I pay the collected taxes to Florida State Revenue Dept quarterly. One month I forgot to send in my taxes by one day and was penalized. For that infraction I was given a pass. When I went to pay the taxers for Q4 this past year I made a $10.00 error. No pass this time - I had to pay the additional $10.00 PLUS a $50 penalty! Even if you had NO sales and collected NO taxes in a quarter and fail to file you will be fined $50.00! What a nightmare it would be if I had to pay taxes to every state where I made a sale on eBay. I will gladly pay eBay to collect my taxes. Several years ago I rented a space in an antique mall. They took 10% of each sale which was ok, PLUS I had to pay rent. I had to pay rent even if I had no sales - so I never understand why people complain so much about eBay fees. Many years ago I owned a brick-n-motor store. There were days in the beginning there would be no customers - some days customers and no sales. My landlord didn't care- I still had to pay rent! It would be great if we didn't have to pay so much in eBay fees, but I would rather they do the paperwork than me!
Geez. Crazy
@@commonwealthflipper crazy that there are tax laws, and that there are penalties for not following them. Lol
I think some people in the comments are forgetting to subtract the shipping cost and sales tax from their final payout amount. Example: Total sale $80 but only got $54 payout. So they think they got charged $26 in fees but in reality they got charged normal fees but forgot they also paid shipping and taxes out of that $80. Does that make sense?
Great explanation and perspective. I'd much rather pay ebay a fee on the sales tax and they handle the logistics on distributing the collected tax to the appropriate municipality vs NOT paying a fee and ME having to do that....
Yup
Your exactly right if we as sellers had to keep track of all the different state taxes we would be paying three or four accounts to keep it all straight
You're getting scammed and just okay with it... Pathetic.
I so agree. Where I live taxes paid to township, city, county and state. I think I pay a tax each year for just breathing. It’s always about $10 and I think it’s separate for the schools. We have decent schools so I don’t mind.
people were trying to get around the FVF by charging a low price and an outrageous amount of shipping. ebay fought back and charged fees on both sales price and shipping, so nobody can get around the fees anymore.
Then it was the ebay sellers who ruined it for the rest of us.
Whenever someone asks me what I want to pay for an item I always tell them "I don't want to pay anything for it, but I'm willing to pay something for it" I never like being the first to throw a price out
My idea would be if you use eBay shipping you would be credited the actual amount of shipping paid, and only pay fees on the amount collected above you that shipping. That would generally make it easy for everyone to offer free shipping.
I’ve had a problem with EBay charging sellers final fee on shipping, that is a rip off
I have a real problem with them charging fees on the sale tax that buyers pay. 😕
That's one of those things that you can blame other sellers for. You know how it goes, a few people can ruin things for everyone. Before eBay charged fees on shipping people would have an item price of 1 cent and shipping $100 to avoid fees. That ain't right so eBay fixed it.
@@TravisInDallas yes i just said the same thing!! some sellers ruined it for everybody
@TravisInDallas Ebay did not have to penalize EVERYONE. EBAY is GREEDY. Ebay could have created in the system an alert when a seller lists something and the shipping is disproportionate, and then it will not allow you to list the item. (The current system catches you when you attempt to list hazardous/prohibited items)
@@TravisInDallas
TRUEST TO THE CORE! Now that you say that I remember those days it was insane
Taxes on shipping via USPS is not allowed in some states.
That's what I wondered. Is it even legal to charge a fee on tax and/or shipping?
@@blackberrybramble2843
Do you think none of eBay's 1000 lawyers checked into that?
And is a fee is charged on taxes is there a tax on the fee charged on the taxes?
I am always happy to hear you say things about how ebay did things over the last 20 odd years. I think looking at things over time helps give perspective to newer sellers.
Most of the things that we don't like initially were the result of a few people ruining things for everybody.
I questioned the same thing. But I do have to agree with you Kevin, even though I don't really like it. But think about it as you stated they have to pay someone to process the payments to all those states to send the taxes out and don't forget, in my case, you get a discount on the shipping when you purchase the label thru ebay. It's a business. They are exactly like us, in a bussines to make money. I look at it this way, I pay them to help me make money.
I love the way you describe EBay processes.
I don't agree w the taxes on shipping fees .
I own a brick & mortar retail store. Last year, my business had a 16.8% profit margin.
I also sell on Amazon, Walmart and eBay. Everything I sell online is the same as I sell in my retail store. My online business had a 21.3% profit margin. My online sales also exceed my retail sales.
Also with people complaining about sales tax fees. I have to pay monthly sales tax that I collected. I pay an accountant to do it. He has to collect all of the transactions. Then file out a form to file with the state. Then he cuts the state a check.
Selling on any platform has issues and overall it's up to the individual to adjust to the market. Selling has many factors your purchase price, storage cost of inventory & overall operation cost, your shipping cost including supplies & if you are part-time or full-time.
Yes, there is no county sales tax in Connecticut - because we don't have counties! Yes, they appear on maps, but there is no county government.
Totally agree with your take on taxes-they are what they are! I've been reselling full time for 7 years now and it's just a part of doin' business.
You have to ask more to recoup the fees Ebay charge. That’s why I cross post to Mercari where they do not charge sellers I can sell for less but retain more money than if it sold on ebay
This all may be fine if you have very little invested in the item and it sells for considerable more. However, I mostly sell my own personal items. Usually at a significant loss and the shipping is high. I end up with almost nothing in the end. Only ones making money are Ebay, the Post Office and the government.
Do you not charge the buyer for shipping?
Ebay calculates seller fees on the gross. When a seller passes on the reduced shipping rate to the buyer the gross paid is lower, so Ebay actually makes LESS in fees.
I think Ebay's goal with the suggestion to pass the discount to buyers is to reduce shipping paid in general to stay competitive with Amazon.
I agree
I Like how you explained the shipping. It looks and sounds strange from EBay,But you did the same thing I do. Put pen to pad and figure out the Exact totals.
Yes, absolutely I just sold two products with the total of the products and the total sales being $135. I paid eBay $40 in fees and yes they took the total value of the order and charge me a fee on the total value, the total value included the tax that the customer was charged, and The shipping that the customer was charged, so I did not get charged a final value fee on the price that my product sold for I got charged a final value fee on the order total it’s a complete rip off and yes they are making 1/3 at minimum up to 50% depending on the category of the product in which you sold
Not unless you are promoting at a steep price
Taxes. I take 25% and bank it to cover that. Let's say ebay charges 15% across the board. They don't. That means you are promoting your items at 10%. I don't promote much. Probably 10% of my store is promoted and my prices reflect that. On most items I don't promote. I just buy low, and sell on the low end of market value. Not low enough to change the game for other sellers, but I beat them by up to a dollar. If my item is in stellar condition, I don't lowball myself. Anyway, I rarely promote. The day ebay takes 50% like Amazon, I'm gone.
I understand the fees on shipping especially when you see items listed for $20 with a $200 shipping fee. I would be curious if fees on shipping would actually be needed on calculated shipping. I understand a seller can change the shipping method when they purchase the eBay provided label and could profit off of it. Rather than having the seller go through the shipping process, eBay keeps the calculated fee and then just sends a label to the seller. There isn't any adjustment unless you contact eBay to make those changes but any difference in the label cost is kept by eBay or they can make the internal choice of refunding the buyer the difference. This could help with fees as they aren't taken out of shipping costs and keeps shipping more honest. With the other option of free shipping or seller provided shipping, a fee can still be tacked on there. It would give an incentive to sellers use eBay shipping vs going out and looking elsewhere. Free shipping technically doesn't have fees anyways as it still applies to the total.
Love the Jetsons, that is super cool 😊. I don't mind the fees to much definitely don't like paying fees on the shipping though as I do calculated shipping and it's very rare that I make any money on shipping. Things have been very slow for me these past few months. Anyway thanks for sharing 😊❤
Hi, Commonwealth Flipper. Are you going to comply with the freshly new nag and arrogant rule of ebay. To upload ID , DL or Passport ? And been exposed later to identity theft.
He is going to comply. He is a eBay ass kisser
When buying inventory, I factor 20% for my eBay fees for item sale, fee on the tax collected and fee on the shipping charges. I sell mostly vintage items, I don’t promote my listing at this time. I am always happy when my fees come under that.
If eBay wants the shipping discount given to the buyer. Then if you do this EBay shouldn’t charge the seller fees on that shipping. If you don’t pass on the savings EBay should do as they are. If you pass the deal on you lose more money.
this is insane they take out fees based on things other then the actual price your selling items for. like I'm selling a monitor for 750$ but being charged fees for 890$ they charging the buyer for shipping and then charging the seller for the same shipping.
Exactly i wondered about this too and new it is unfair.
I’m a very small seller and I sell all media only including a bit of media electronics due to my storage space, looking to expand all media store , any advice how to expand my media little store thx, love your store by the way 😂
You mean expand outside of media. If so just pick another category and start picking
I just don't get breaking part of the cost of the item into a separate column called shipping to start with. Just sell the item for the total market value
I was told that there would be no math….
Take the maths for me 😂
lol. How many games over 500 are the Phillies? I bet you know that math
Math...shiver.
How can people be selling and not know the fees they are paying? We've been paying fees on shipping for years. Sellers really need to be aware of the fees they're paying out.
That is illegal and a class action lawsuit!
Tell me the statute number and state or the USC that is being violated. I would love to read it.
Charging fees on the sales tax is a total rip off. Ebay remits the sales tax to the taxing jurisdictions. 13.5% + promotions is a super high fee for facilitating the sales tax payment. 3% is more realistic.
3% doesn't even cover the credit card fee's.
Ebay also has to employ people to pay that sales tax to each state every month.
I own a brick & mortar store. I have to pay an accountant to do the sales tax every month.
Hi Kevin, so i still see people charge a very high price for shipping even beyond the non-discounted rate. I know because I've paid it for items that i really want. No one wants to pay fees but that's the cost of doing business.
It's because some sellers charge way over the top shipping fees to make extra money
Im new to reselling on ebay. my first month i did $700+ in sales but only have made about $300 that goes into my pocket. Obviously im doing something wrong. i just dont know what I should do
I’m upset that the shipping is now so low to buyers and we now have no buffer! I used to put shipping lower because it was so expensive and now it’s reversed! I have 1500 items .. I’ve been trying to go through but impossible.. why isn’t eBay reducing fees if we reduce shipping costs! Crazy! My sales have increased but the point is eBay should remove fees on shipping ..
Okay, that's completly your fault for not calculating shipping correct. Take some responsibility for your mistake, and fix it. Yeah it sucks, but blaming ebay when you set things up incorrectly is the mindset of someone that isn't going to make it
Just use business policies and make flat rates based on categories and weight. Much more efficient.
@criticalmass1884 but then they can't blame ebay!
Part time seller for 3 years... I've always done buy it now, but decided to put something on auction. 5 minutes after I listed my item, I realized I selected reserve price instead of buy it now and saw that I was charged a big chunky fee. Thats not what I wanted and tried to reverse it. Was able to do so, but eBay does not refund you if you make that mistake. Just an fyi to all....
I don't have an issue paying seller fees on shipping costs. What I have an issue with is eBay pushing passing on our savings to our customers. I am not even that worried about not making a profit on shipping. I am worried about taking a loss on shipping.
I also have an issue with eBay changing my opt out to opt in over last weekend.
I think a reasonable compromise is our shipping cost plus our seller fee. We are not profiting on shipping but we are also no loosing on shipping. We lower the overall cost so we and eBay are more competitive.
Sellers made Ebay what it is now. They feel like we are "fat" enough to be bled without it effectively hurting their business model. They have gotten to the point that they feel that they are the only game in town. If I could sell things locally I would and avoid the hassle of all of this....but that is not possible most of the time. Maybe at some time their actions will come back and bite them in their butts.
I'm in Canada. I was not passing the discount on and Ebay charged me fees on shipping. I received the email so I switched before I was forced to. Now I pay for shipping exactly what the customer pays (as long as my dimensions and weight are accurate...I messed up once and paid a couple of dollars extra) Ebay is NOT charging me fees on shipping anymore!
Yes they are. The charges are for everyone no matter whether you give the customer the discount or not.
? Are you sure about that
They are charging you on the total sales price + shipping + taxes. Add those up then take 15% or whatever it is off the top.
@@commonwealthflipper Example: Customer paid $17.96 + 8.07 (shipping) + 1.08 (tax)=$27.11
My fees were based on $19.04 (price + tax)
$2.52 (13.25% clothing) + $0.40 (FVF) + $0.08 (International fee) +$0.39 (HST Canadian tax) for a total of $3.39. Plus my cost of $8.07 for the shipping label as I buy my labels through Ebay. I think if I was charging flat rate or purchasing my labels off site, they would charge me fees on shipping. I've checked all my orders since I made the change and it is consistent.
That's been going on since the switch on payments
Absolutely, I am still so pissed about that
I just right this minute had a messed up ebay selling experience. I had two offers on an item, but ebay defaulted me to the LOWEST offer without prompting me that I had a better offer on the table. I have never had this happen before. Every time I had more than one offer that showed up when I clicked on see offers. But this time I only saw the $50.00 offer even though I had a $65.00 offer sitting on the table. I took the $50.00 offer only to then realize I had a better offer that I just lost. WTF ebay? This REALLY MAKES ME ANGRY!!!!!!!!
I was already pretty much finished with ebay. I have only been listing stale, old inventory ever since I gave up on ebay. Now I may just shut the entire thing down. I really, really, hate ebay today which is sad because I used to brag about how awesome they were to everyone I met. I have not done that for at least ten years. All I have to say about them today is bad, bad, bad.
Almost had that happen to me yesterday, saw that I had 2 offers, but only showed the one, had to click another link to see them both.
I have no problem with the EBay fees. eBay built and maintains the platform, they are a brand that is known worldwide and they have more traffic than any other platform. If you buy high value items at the right price you can make a tremendous profit regardless of the fee structure.
You don't just pay eBay fees on the price and shipping the buyer paid. But, you also pay eBay fees on any SALES TAX the buyer paid. This has been going on for years. I wonder if the State entitled to receive the sales tax is actually getting the correct amount from eBay when a seller lists it in the "Royal Collectibles" category?
They are also charging us eBay fees on the taxes they collect from the customer.
What😳
You forget it's cost money to keep it in storage, like how long it it been sitting there before you sold it and your time and fuels it cost you looking for it.
I don't like the fees but I still make good money in the end so I am good with it all
Me too. 😊
eBay charging fees on the shipping simply comes down to people used to scam the system and charge excessive amounts of shipping and lower down the cost of the item when they only charged fees on the cost of the item. They should not be charging fees on taxes though.
Someone explain the big deal to me. There was always the option to give the buyer discounted shipping. Now it is just more well-known.
You’re getting charged to less of a selling fee by eBay because there’s no way and I can show you my numbers I just sold an item for $70 and they charged me almost $16 in fees the item was 70 the flat rate shipping was five dollars. I don’t know what they paid in taxes but I imagine they paid about four dollars so $80 and I paid $16 in fees but something doesn’t make sense because I was only credited $54 in the end so I got more like $26 in fees
Do you promote your listings? Also fees vary by category
I do believe that ebay should not charge final value fees for collected taxes. I am with you, however, that ebay must charge final value fees for shipping because a percentage of sellers would charge high shipping to avoid paying their fair share of fees.
Those sellers wouldn't be around long because buyers don't like to feel like they're getting ripped off. They know it doesn't cost $50 to ship a shirt.
@@WellnessWizdom True that is, but it is the reason Ebay implemented the fee on shipping. Do I think Ebay will drop the fee? Nope!
Just so you know this is a really simple thing. All the resellers come together and build a better site and everyone moves there. As eBay begins losing market share year over year. Other sites gain that share.
and if they taking all these fees at least pay the buyer promptly not 90 days after the buyer received the item.
I did not like when they changed to charging the promoted listing fee on the total cost rather than the item sold price. I did not mind promoting the item when it was only on the item cost as it was easy to figure out the fee I would pay but when you add shipping and taxes to that it
I had a $28. dollar item. The customer paid the shipping. I ended up with 18 dollars after all the fees. Just seems too much gone for a small item.
10 dollars in fees on a 28 dollar sale? I’d have to see that fee breakdown. Was the shipping 25 bucks or did you promote your item or both?
It is cost of doing business. The shady sellers screwed over the rest of us who were honest in our prices and shipping. And I do not mind paying a fee on the taxes to avoid the time and headache of collecting and parsing it out myself.
if they didnt take fees on shipping then it would be like 20 years ago when that was the case and a lot people sold everything for 1 dollar or 1 cent with 25- 30$ shipping
I've been selling on eBay since 1995. I'm gulity of selling a $300 item for .99 with $299 shipping back in the day!!
I just assume I'll profit 65% of my selling price, after ALL of the Ebay fees...fvf fees are high and charging fees on taxes and shipping sucks, but i just think of it as paying for customers to know i exist and advertising and such...but the fees are still high imo...
As a history teacher, I am surprised you didn't mention the atrocious "Wayfair" decision. Not that us "little people" can do anything about it (the Supreme Court usually gives the political machine what it wants, the constitution be damned), but this whole sales tax mess was started by the Supreme Court a few years ago and their unconstitutional ruling, reversing the long standing (and constitutionally correct) "Quill" ruling. I wouldn't feel so bad about the fees on out-of-state sales tax if it had some actual constitutional backing behind it, but it doesn't. It is the out-of-state buyer's responsibility, not eBay's or the sellers, to pay their sales/use tax. Whether the buyer does so or not is constitutionally irrelevant.
How'd you end up in the middle of Arkansas from SoCal?
Virginia
That's the excuse they use. The vast majority of sellers were not doing that, and the ones who were didn't stick around long. They'd stick around even less time today because buyers are more savvy. They know it doesn't cost $99 to ship a pair of shoes(not yet anyway). The market would take care of these sellers because buyers don't like to feel like they're getting ripped off.
eBay could have addressed this issue in a number of ways. They chose the way that makes them more money from every seller, which is fine. They're in business to make as much money as they can. But let's not pretend it's something that it isn't. They didn't HAVE to address the issue in this way. They CHOSE to.
I wish you were around when I used to resell 😊😊
We can all appreciate that e-commerce business are in it to make money for their shareholders. For those who do not upcharge on shipping the added Ebay feature is not an issue for these Sellers. However for those who do take advantage and overcharge on shipping, those will have an issue. Majority of Sellers are appreciative of having their items shown globally to millions of prospective buyers and we pay the Ebay fees inclusive. However, what Sellers have issue with is Ebay allowing scrupulous buyers ripping off the ethical Sellers with their fake returns, item switch and false negative feedback, the constant Ebay website technical issues (search, payment, combined shipping, listings disappear, drafts disappear, etc), the Buyer only focus, etc,. Ebay needs to do a better job to investigate the scam Buyers and not allow them to get away with ripping off the very good reputable long term Sellers and improve the constant technical issues at hand. Until then, many more Sellers and Buyers will leave the platform.
I know they been charging fees on the total amount which includes shipping
Ebay charges way too much of a percentage on clothing sales. (15%) Ebay makes more money on most of my sales than I do. That is absurd.
And you do 99%+ of the work, they don't.
I do not have a problem with paying a fee on sales tax because I do not want to be responsible for distributing that money to all the different states where sales are made. I do feel that paying fees on the shipping is really hurting my bottom line. On all my sales Ebay takes 35 to 40 Percent in fees. They charge 15% for jewelry and then promoted fees and I have not been able to figure out where the rest is being taken. Anyway my point is if the buyer pays $6 for calc shipping and ebay takes 35 % or 2.10 I am getting about $4.00 for the postage, THEN the ebay label costs an average of $4 each I am NOT saving anything and nothing towards my supply costs AT ALL. I am thinking I might be better off opting in to giving the buyer the discounted postage but adding a handling cost to cover my supply costs . I use Jewelry boxes so my supply costs are over $2 on each sale. The seller hub showa my fees are 35%. jewelry fee is 15% and promoted is 8 to 10% so I cannot figure out where the other 15% is taken from?? do you have any ideas that might help me figure that out. Thanks,Diane
I'm ok with fees on the taxes. Ebay does alot for selllers in tracking and submitting taxes for us. I think if sellers pass on the shipping discount to the buyers than fees should NOT be on shipping. If we pass on the discount then we are getting hit with more fees on shipping money that is not ours. I'd love to pass on the discount, but I'm not going to pay more fees so no go for me. I'm sure there is a way for ebay to do this. They should have figured it out and offered it when they rolled out passing out disc shipping fees. Lower shipping fees do play a role in getting the sale. I think ebay dropped the ball on this one. Great video and always.
Thank you for explaining. I thought i was doing something wrong.
Its their business. They have the right to do as they will.
That's a mighty fine looking ashtray 😉
The dishonest sellers are why we get charged fees on shipping. Back in the day people would sell something for $1 and $99 shipping. They did not have to pay fees and got away with it for years. Now the playing fields in equal for everyone. So, it is the price of doing business.
Ebay can get 50% if you sell an item for $5 and the shipping is $15
yes but why would anybody do that.
People know u pay state tax ,when u go to a local store😮,same applies online
I have to stand up for eBay even though I haven’t had a sale in 5 days! eBay doesn’t a lot for resellers, 95% of the time customer support is very good, I honestly think eBay does a lot for us for the fees they charge.
Good morning Kevin 😊😊
Great video Kevin.
Ebay fees are awful for us sellers selling small ticket items
I understand
Take all the taxes and nonsense out the equation. They are charging the seller a certain percentage, but there adding the shipping cost into that before taking their 10.5 percent which is a rip off, why is the seller paying a portion of the shipping in their sellers fee?
Why shipping large items is pointless now unless very expensive. Ship lighter stuff and make more money for you not ebay.
This question must have been from a New seller. Ebay has been taking final value fees & tax out of shipping for a while. When sellers start selling items for $2 and charge $200 for shipping, eBay is going to react (which was happening all the time). If you don't like giving eBay 10%, you simply DON"T understand the business. They bring millions of buyers to the table. This coming from a seller who has been blasting eBay for certain concerns I have for 20+ years. eBay is far from perfect but someone who thinks giving them 10-15% (if you use promoted lsiting, etc) simply doesn't get the business. Funny to hear some of the nonsense that people think out there. Cheers
This is such horseshit!. The seller pays a sellers fee on the amount sold but ebay adds the shipping fee to that amount there for i am paying shipping fees adding in to my seller fee which raises the cost thus raising my cost.
Seems pretty uncomplicated to me. If you don't like eBay's cut on their platform, sell somewhere else. I don't personally like the amount that eBay takes, but most of the "crap" my dad had hoarded for years is ONLY being sold on eBay, esp. the old video games. And I am not even a business. I am just trying to liquidate his stuff to help my mom pay for her living expenses, since the household's overall income went down after my dad unfortunately passed away. I am just grateful for buyers actually choosing to buy from me, since there are other choices (bigger, more efficient resellers) out there. Yeah, it breaks my heart to see my dad pay $50 for something, and I am lucky I can get $10 for it on eBay, and of course, after all the fees & taxes, my take home is maybe $4. But again, it is either get $4 to put toward the electricity bill or throw the item out. Though, I am not sure the amount of time and labor and supplies is making it worth it. The flexibility between three jobs has value to me, plus, selling so much stuff allows me to increase my ratings on eBay, since my acct was dormant for over a decade.
They have been charging fees on shipping for years!!!!
I don't mind ebay fees on shipping because the seller can set the shipping cost for the buyer, and back in the day it was common to see items with really cheap purchase prices, but high shipping costs because people were trying to avoid paying the fees. I would say that ebay shouldn't charge fees on the sales tax, because that is set by the state/county and is required to be collected by law, so you have no say in that, and don't ever see any of that money anyway.
Why do you think eBay should process and collect sales tax on your behalf for free?
@@WellnessWizdom They shouldn't, but the government requires them to, it's not their choice. They used to not collect them even though it was still technically required for sellers to charge sales tax, but no one did.
I appreciate the math lesson!
I was just asking my husband. I thought Ebay was charging me way to much.😢
Sellers caused this. People were selling hundred dollar items for 1.00 plus 99.00 shipping and eBay caught on.
See if anyone agrees with me......When I make an offer, as a woman to another woman at a rummage, they usually don't take my offer BUT if I send my husband over to her and he makes an offer, she accepts it. Ummm. Wonder if anyone else has this happen? Happens often to me. The ladies usually take your offers too, Kevin, must be that smile. lol
