The Hurricane" (1999) movie brought me here. I fully expected to see a fight somewhat similar to what was portrayed in the film. Not only was the decision NOT controversial...Joey Giardello actually won the fight pretty easily! In fact, I scored the fight 72-65 for Joey Giardello. Not even close! 😂 That's Hollywood for you...
Giardello is quite gifted in the body and footwork department. He shuffles and weaves quite gracefully, and uses those tools to their full effect, all the while keeping his distance and only closing in to punch when an opening presents itself... Masterful boxer. Giardello is a very experienced fighter here, and it shows. He's outpointing Carter at every step.
Joey didn't know about how badly they depicted him in the Movie until Joey and his Wife went to the Pre-Screening as VIP Guests from the Daily News....then Joey rightfully took action, and the Directors admitted that they Exaggerated the entire Fight Sequence, and other Sequences in their Movie, in order to emphasize "Their Message, which was about Freedom, and Injustice".....They also then watched the "Real Fight" and admitted that Joey cleearly won the Fight Fair and Square, and said they had no intentions of damaging his Reputation, or his hard earned achievements.. They also made Notations on every Film that was to be seen, or sold again on TV, DVD, VHS, etc.....besides the Monetary Settlement they paid Joey!
Yup! I was far too harsh on Carter in my OP, he was a great puncher and a very, very good boxer, maybe if he hadn't been an alcoholic he could have been a champion, but Giardello beat him fair and square and the film makers lied. Carter was definitely guilty of the murders.
Not only did Joey clearly win the Fight, but Joey also never ducked "ANY" of the Greatest Middleweights, of possibly the Best Era of Middleweights ever....Joey had 133 Fights, along with his long amateur career, and Joey was "34 Years Old" in this Fight, to Carter's 27 Years young and strong!! Carter even said he hit Joey with the Best he had, and Joey just took em, never really hurt......Joey had Carter punching at Air all night long. It was really a Rotten Thing to do, what these Film Makers did in the Movie portrayal of this Fight, and they admitted so!!
please don't listen to those people that r saying he's guilty. read the case yourselves and make up your own minds. people don't portray your opinion as fact.
Carter was an great puncher , but he just could'nt beat the top middlweights and he lost something like 5 outta his last 7 fights. So his best days were behind him for sure. And the more that i read up on his case, the more i thought he was guilty too.
All I got to say is that if Ruben was guilty why would a federal judge see his case n then release him. Not because he was guilty but the case was fixed.
Not gonna speak of Carter and the murders. I don’t know if he did them, and I don’t think it’s fair to say. However, Carter lost the fight to Giardello, and that trash movie they put out depicted Giardello as bruised and broken. This was far from the truth. Giardello won the fight hands down. truly a sad story. Carter was a great boxer and I’m not taking anything away from him, but people just need to see the truth. Go back, watch the REAL fight. It’s not like this was a close fight that could have went either way. I’ll leave the murder stuff to the lawyers and attorneys to squabble over, but I know boxing. Boxing says Giardello won.
Good afternoon l have to agree with you. I am a boxing guru or junkie having followed the sport since the seventies. Carter lost this fight fair and square.
I hope you don't mean the 16th Round by Carter written by Carter ? You think he would admitt his guilt, your trippin ! Watch the documentry about it called Hurricane: the other side of the story, the movie wit Denzel was all bullshit and Volt63 was right, they had to pay off Giardello for the film's attempt to make it that Carter was robbed and that Giardello was all beaten up. Carter was given another trail in 1976 and was convicted again. continued

Yep, even Rubin "Hurricane" Carter himself acknowledged that Giardello beat him fair and square.

Wow, thanks for posting this!!!
Giardello sued the filmmakers for the untruthful portrayal of this fight in the film. It was settled out of court-they paid him!!!
Amazing upload!

What year was this fight?
did the commentator say "feeling each other out and giaradello like the man who moves in on him" sound kinda wrong haha

Dam I really want a Schmidts now
crazy to know joey is my grand uncle
dam i wish i could write him a letter
I can relate to the Schmidts beer commercials. Spend most of my money on beer & women, the rest I waste.

Round 1 - Carter landed far more power punches. Hurt Giardello late in round.
@Postie218 All I have found tells me he was innocent.... -.-
he may not of killed those people but he lost this fight
