    I bought a brand new 2019 A50 Altitude powerplay back in August of this year and It has not missed a beat. Over 800 miles on it and not had a single problem that wasn't caused by me...speed sensor cut by the brake rotor when a stick got wedged in the drivetrain! $30 replacement part. I wash it every other ride and have not had any of the water proof issues. I have upgraded just about every component to top spec. If there was an A90 rally edition...this would be it! Cannot say enough about how good this is. The only negative that I have is that it is a beast to pedal when your battery goes flat!

      Nice, and also imagine very nice not having the pain I did in first 14 months 🤣
      But that is also a testament to how much I believed in the bike as knew it was the best. I just got unlucky with this one. However as mentioned it has also not missed a heart beat since all fixed and is the ebike I wanted when purchasing it 👍🏼
      Your bike sounds good and certainly A90 worthy by sounds of it! They are so good aren't they, let you have that unique feeling as well as not as many around really. Thanks for watching ⚡

    Great review. Admire your honesty. Good to highlight the bad as well as the good. And also about yourself and your capabilities. There is a lot of cynicism out there on ebikes, but love the way you just emphasize what a great bike this is and ultimately what pleasure it gives you. Fair play - good for you. Look fwd to seeing Marks review on it, be fascinating to see his thoughts on it - All the best Adam 👍

      Really hard to not come across as a I know everything as I clearly don't, but instead what this bike is to me at my level.

    Great review mate. Glad you had good support from your dealer. Good dealers are even more important for e-bikes, because of the increased potential for issues compared to acoustic bikes. I've been trying to sort out problems with my old e-bike since March after the dealer stopped stocking the brand. So far, I'm onto my third dealer after getting ripped off by the second one I went to! Got the bike back last week, and guess what, it still doesn't work!

    • @ElectricMountainBiker

      So true, think the hardest pill to swallow was that it never worked correctly from day one and then took 14 months to fix fully. Just figured if I could share some of the learnings it might help others not have to go through that pain themselves. Thing isnwe never get told these hacks so have to learn about them from different forums.
      Sounds like you are having a nightmare as well, would be good of you share your learnings once it is fixed. Really hope they resolve it soon as well for you!
      Good after sales support is crucial, that is the main reason I did not want to purchase an ebike online. I wanted a person I could see face to face.
      Cheers for watching and glad you liked it 👍🏼

The idea was to sell the rocky and my dh rig and get a inbetweener endro but covid means I can't get a bike(nomad) until the new year. Great review, lots of good hacks in there, maybe don't do your tec-talk road side😀
    Seems like they need to lift there water proofing game a little , quite a few brands have problems in this area, it's a mtb it's going to get wet and muddy , for the price we pay a little more thought on these small items would go a long way. What happened to motor and battery? Was everything fixed under warranty?
    They are a slick machine, I'd love to own one but they are pretty pricey here in NZ(probably on par with specialized) also almost impossible to get like many brands at the moment.
    Glade you are enjoying it.
    Shane

    • @ElectricMountainBiker
      @ElectricMountainBiker  3 роки тому +2

      Yeh thought that afterwards by a road was not great 🤣
      They really do, the controller being such a crucial part has to be totally waterproof, to the point even if it was submerged it still works.
      We pay a load of money for the bikes so should not be getting such a simple thing wrong.
      Fortunately everything was replaced under warranty, the battery and motor were replaced, in my opinion because they were unsure what was actually wrong with the bike and figured it could cure it.
      The UK distributor actually called me in the end to apologise and ensure everything was sorted for me, which eventually along with the bike shop they did 👍🏼
      Yeh these are not cheap, I actually added in a clip where I say the crazy thing is this bike is worth more than my car which is also true. However road traffic decided to interfere with that clip haha.
      They sell out really quickly when they come in stock in the UK as well.
      Thank you for your comment and really glad you liked it 👍🏼

    Appreciating the problem of how to get an EMTB into an estate car. Can't see how to attach a picture here so will have to describe. I have a roller made from 6 inch plastic drainage pipe, wrapped in a bit of old carpet. It's about 90cm long. A length of plastic rope about 6mm diameter forms a loop going through the roller. Put the loop over one of the front headrests. The tube is then parallel to the front seats and about somewhat less than one metre in from the back of the car. Take off the front wheel of the EMTB and holding horizontally on a balance point (one hand top of forks the other top of the rear triangle / seat post area) start to put the bike in and rest the back wheel on the roller. Then slide the bike in, the back half rolls on the roller and you only need to hold the front end. Then I have a quick tie of the back wheel to the headrest of the passenger seat and ensure the handlebars are at 90 degrees to the car because I have a front mudguard and it'll get squashed if the bars aren't at 90 degrees. If you send a msg to facebook user Jules Kayak I'll send a picture next time I put the bike in the car.

    I’m in the market in 2022 for an EMB. Sounds like the Rocky Mt Powerplay is a real contender. I like the characteristics of the drivetrain, however all the issues you needed to replace makes me question if the reliability for that amount of cash should turn me away? The giant Trance is sort of my top choice for now, internet research is cheap and that’s were I am for 2021.

    • @ElectricMountainBiker
      @ElectricMountainBiker  3 роки тому

      So hard choosing the right ebike, went through that myself as well.
      I got unlucky with my bike, was partly due to lack of knowledge potentially ofnthenissie by the bike shop I used. Once I approached another one it was fixed straight away.
      Honestly though bang for buck the Giant would win, for actual feeling of riding rocky wins for me.
      The motor is unlike anything out there on the market for natural feeling and responsiveness. The 2022 model sounds amazing as well, loads has changed, that much so I am looking at selling mine to get the 2022 model. It is amazing what they have updated ⚡👍🏼

I have dusted off my 1999 schwinn Moab 3 and been falling back in love with trail riding only to discover that I’m not 50 anymore….shit. I can see that the EMB platform is the best of worlds for someone who is made to explore where the noise of a motorcycle and the weight says NO, and hiking is not enough excitement, the bike is just as incredible as it was back in 66 on my Columbia one speed. Just before it goes into the cover there is a chain guide which does a good job of clearing it of chain. However, yep you still get a load in there from wet conditions. In fairness I ride mostly wet conditions and not a problem, you must check it after every ride and clear it when needed.

    I had a torque sensor error and I was able to recalibrate. However the motor doesn't turn on. The only thing that works is walk mode. Do I need to reboot something else?

    • @ElectricMountainBiker
      @ElectricMountainBiker  3 роки тому

      When my torque sensor arm failed, it was due to it being slightly twisted so needed a new one. When that was failing my motor would only engage intermittently.
      My advice would be get it back your dealer and get them to check it over, as the error code (33 I think) can also be the speed sensor. Try giving that a clean and if it fails take back to shop. Better safe than sorry is what I learned.

    The only good thing going for it is the total maximum weight it handles. All those cogs look like too much to clean & too much to go wrong. Why the hell would you use a press fit bottom bracket?!??

    • @ElectricMountainBiker
      @ElectricMountainBiker  3 роки тому

      Obviously I am going to disagree with you fully on this, but sure you also understand why as well?
      The cogs do take some extra cleaning, but in reality that translates as an extra 5 mins on the cleaning. But by having these extra cogs and the torque sensor results in having one of, if not the best motors on the market for feel. Instant delivery of power and in a controlled manner, marry that up to a bike with the same geometry as its none motor version certainly provides you with a fantastic handling ebike. I tried cube, a very neutral ride no life to it, trek powerfly just monster trucked it ways through, did not feel like you were actually riding the bike.
      But it is also personnel preference, and what you want from your bike.
      No idea though about the bottom bracket, I am certainly not technical gifted to answer that 🤣
      Cheers for the comment though, always good having an opposite thought 👍🏼

    • @ElectricMountainBiker
      @ElectricMountainBiker  3 роки тому

      Well we will find out, as yes there is more more weight to it for sure but it is also a lot more stable less skitting around downhill, which translates to holding better lines. I am not the fittest of people as you can see yet I am no more knackered at the end of the run 👍🏼
      Where you slow down on exiting a corner, on an ebike you can use the power to very quickly get straight back up to speed. Cannot wait though for their rides on it, sure there will be smiles at least
