I love how everyone in the comments, from different parts of Africa are telling their story about these matches. Big love to everyone, Football is a beautiful game and I hope the world becomes a better place.
Indeed! Not just Africa but the Middle East, North and South America even parts of Europe. The Nigerian Super Eagles of the 90's were high achievers and brought joy and unity to so many people across the world.
I remember, i was 12 yrs old still in nigeria when we won the Olympics. it was very late in the night, and we had no T.V. We listened to the brazil vs Nigeria Game on the radio. I remembered my father pacing back and forth the living room. When brazil was up 3:1, it was so sad. And then it was 3:2.. and before you know it, Kanu did what no nigerian has ever done, equalizer the game with brazil. That moment was a defining moment in my life, i saw my father so happy!, the noise that came up, you can hear it, flow through the night skies. Like an earthquake! i swear.. The whole nation was happy, you can see people in the streets hugging one another, no ibo, hausa, yoruba... it was just one Nigeria. No politics no religion but pure joy spread through the nation. And then, the unbelievable game winning goal came..sigh. This game was, against Brazil showed me Nigeria is filled with people with good heart. Yes, we still have greed but i will tell you.. we have football!
Tears in my eyes, reading your soulful, enchanting and valuable account from your family on Nigeria's Olympic Football 4-3 golden-goal win over Brazil in Atlanta 1996, ngussie84. I pray GOD's favour, mercies and love on Nigeria and all Nigerian People, always.
You guys deserved it , that team was so good , all the players on every position were just legends. And yes politics are there to hold people down while they make more money .
I was still in primary school in Kenya but I remember we had the names of all the Nigerian players by heart. They we representing the African continent. I also still recall Sunday Olise's goal at the world cup. Thank you super eagles, you made our childhood what it was.
Believe me: I'm Brazilian but I'm a big fan of this Nigerian team. It's 2023 and I'm still playing Winning Eleven 2000 and it's one of my favorite teams. Babangida, Okocha and Kanu destroy with opponents! I already made a team with only African players in the master league: Kanu, Babangida, Okocha, Oliseh, Mboma, Masinga, Weah, Slimani etc. Olimpiada more than deserved, because it is not easy to beat Brazil and Argentina in the same competition.
I will never forget those games....celebration were evry where in Somalia even though we had civil war, but Nigeria made us forget. Nigeria thought Brazil & Argentin a lesson. LOVE FROM Somalia.
We can get to this point again that is if we look out of the street of best Nigeria player on each street of each state and pick out one best player each from different regions I believe with the training and all we will get there again

Mohamed Ben Mehressi same here in Egypt, I was nine years old and I remember my father and all my family are jumping on the air from happiness and dancing and laugh with the Nigerian players once they score a goal! 😁❤️
Brings tears to my eyes. Such an incredible Nigerian team. I was a young boy in Kenya then and it felt like we had won the World Cup. No African football team has brought joy to Africa like that Nigerian Olympic mens football team
Time flies.this game brings tears to my eyes.what a game it was for all Africans. I was in my country Ethiopia we all went out to the street to celebrate I wanna be teenager again
Kanu is just one of those players you can't help but love. Such a star and down right amazing guy he did more than lead us to victory, he scored very crucial goals as well. A true LEGEND indeed!!!
That was my best moments in the history of the African football. I was the happiest guy in the world after they missed to win the 1994 world cup. Yes, got hurt after that game against Italy. Always been a great nation of football. Love from Senegal.
I was about 5 when this game happened. I remember my dad and my uncles watching it the Nigeria Vs Brazil game and how much joy there was in the air, I didn’t understand the significance of Nigeria beating Brazil and then Argentina right after. It was beautiful to see looking back on it now as an adult. I literally have tears in my eyes as I write this. I’m not an emotional person at all but this brought out my emotions because it shows the potential that Nigeria has. If we invested more in ourselves, imagine what we could accomplish? From football to academics, politics to business and so on. We have great people in this country and this Nigerian team is just a small sample fo the rest of us. One day we will reach our potential. Now let me wipe these tears of my eyes before I get caught being soft 😂.
I still remember when it was midnight in Cairo and You hear a big explosion it's Nigeria scoring a new goal. You should mention that Nwankwo signed to Inter Milan few days after the tournament and the medical test revealed he has a big problem in his heart and doctors in Inter were wondering how come he still a live.
I had just finished my WAEC exam at the time. There was no light in my neighbourhood, and very few homes had portable power generators. Our entire compound watched the match on a black and white TV powered by a car battery, set up by our electrician neighbour. I had a front seat position. I will never forget the jubilation that ripped through the air that night. It was a perfect moment of unity and love among Nigerians. Everyone who gave up and went to bed when the score line was against us, got out of bed. And celebrations lit up the sky like daytime. It was beautiful!
Proud to be an African , every time I watch this video I feel like WOW that was incredible and I remember that team , every name every star and I miss these football days .. with all love from egypt
When I was watching this match I was crying, because I remembered our heroes past, when Nigerians are united, no tribalism, no nepotism, no corruption, no bribery, where love and unity with peace reign, bound with freedom in one nation; their is nothing like killings, we love ourselves whether you are from the south or north, nor the west, no book haram, we managed and enjoyed our resources; my tears could not allow me to write so I will stop here for me to continue to cry; Nigeria unite. I Love Nigeria that Giants of Africa.

With luck that day Nepa brought light and it was 3-3, shortly nigeria scored the golden goal and the ultimate celebration started with people chanting our players name and music kicking off. This is a priceless memory .Nigeria was one of the happiest nation back then, where football always bring all together regardless of ethnicity, religion ,politics or rivalry .
The Brazil game remains in the heart of every Nigerian till today! I remember when we were trailing 3-1. We had a penalty and Okocha was going to take it. My dad said he was going to miss and he missed. The only time I had so much hate in my heart for my dad 😃. But with Papillo majestically equalising and scoring the winner, all was forgiven! Most people will not remember that Okocha missed a penalty in the Brazil match because it is not on any highlights. But I was 11 years old and still remember it thanks to my dad's (unwelcomed) prediction during the match
It was really amazing journey how Nigeria won Gold, How they put every tough opponents out, sometimes it's really doesn't matter from which country, under what political scenario you are playing, the thing only matters is your Country, the determination you put to get your Country flag rise high, and moment you give to all Countrymen to unite together to cheer your Country. I am watching from India and hoping one day our team would get their and make believe that Cricket is not only game to be played and cheered for.
This was definitely the Golden team of Nigeria. I remember the Brazil game watching very early in the morning. I was 4yrs of age and I could remember my aunt and other siblings so jubilant after the Golden goal. There was even a song composed after the match. Lovely moments in the country's history. So sad our country can reproduce such players anymore.

Alexandre Sarmento the irony is that many of your Brazilian people are of direct Nigerian heritage. Carnival, candoble, athletisicism. I love Brazilian people as well.
Yeah I know...Brazil's people is a blend of whole world but mainly from Africa, and It exert a great influency on culinary, arts, literature, and popular language. At the time when Brazil Was monarchy our country was the 3rd most powerful economy in the world with a giant army force in the sea, and the brilliant mind from that time were a african descendent called André Reboucas

Arguably, the Greatest moments of international Soccer . How one African nation took down all the greatest countries of soccer! That team deserves a Documentary film.
We are African, even if not, he/she might just be surprised and might even admire the victory more than we do. Let's know we borrowed English and not everyone speaks it and they are not good at it. They have to write it the way they understand it.
This victory was celebrated in Ethiopia as if our own team had won the gold. What a generation Nigeria had !

The same 🇧🇷 that would be 98’world cup’s runner up and 2002’s champion!
The day Nigeria showed the world what we can do when we are united and not distracted by the noise.
Kanu always a legend and hero, up Nigeria
I remember the semi-final, I was awakened by the screaming. It was late at night and the whole street was wild with celebration. Proudly Nigerian
Nigeria made the whole Africa proud❤
It was an honour to witness this heroic Nigerian team live back in the day!

Arguably, the Greatest moments of international Soccer . How one African nation took down all the greatest countries of soccer! That team deserves a Documentary film.

This happens only one time in the history, african country beats brazil to qualify to the final, and beat argentina in the final.
You are a big fool

We are African, even if not, he/she might just be surprised and might even admire the victory more than we do. Let's know we borrowed English and not everyone speaks it and they are not good at it. They have to write it the way they understand it.
