    Watching NorCal Dave pays off again!!! I’m back offshore and I walk past the walk in cooler condensing unit to go upstairs several times a day. I noticed the tell tale signs of it flooding back and told the chief engineer he may want to take a look at it if nothing has been done to it lately. Told him to check the fan motor and coil if no one has adjusted the charge lately. Sure enough, they had piled up boxes around the evaporator, starved it of airflow and it iced up solid. A round with the heat gun later and we don’t get spoiled groceries now.
    Thanks Dave!!!!!!

      Nor-Cal Refrigeration & H.V.A.C update: I guess they had been steadily lowering the thermostat to compensate for the ice buildup. After cleaning the coil and not re-adjusting the stat, the cooler was a light freezer for a while.

      Robert L they always turn the tstat down. I have videos showing this. You had a multiple offender 👍👍

    I’ve used the flux coated rod and what you’re using in this video, and I have to say the white paste and coil are my preference. With the paste flux, you can see when it gets hot enough to start taking silver by the way it starts bubbling. Great work as always, Dave! 👍🏻👍🏻

    I wish a lot of the older central air units had flare nut TXVs, Ive done two TXV replacements and its super high stress for me since they were braze in/sweat in TXVs. I always worry ill be cookin them even tho i have the heatpuddy and wet rag on em lol. Great video Dave

    • @OcRefrig
      @OcRefrig 6 років тому +2

      Don't worry about it man. some guys don't even use wet rags. you are taking precautions and care so your doing it right. just keep a little wet rag around the valve, get in there with the torch and get out. use oxy acet torch, #2 tip, Get in and get out is the key. its all in the prep work, clean your copper real good, clean the txv real good ,inside and out , use flux and 56% silver solder and your golden.

    • @OcRefrig
      @OcRefrig 6 років тому +2

      Check into danfoss all stainless steel Txv's , i've heard u can just use 15% and no Rags or anything. the valves are bullet proof i think ive heard. no Wet Rags needed i think ive heard. maybe check danfoss.com . i ve never installed the all stainless steel ones , but i believe i've heard that u don't have to worry about anything sweating them in. you might want to check them out.

      I currently work for a company that's well, the owner is a nice guy but he's not the brightest bulb. Hes weird with what we do and don't,, many of the times we go with the manufacturer's choice of parts. I have only done one Danfoss TXV on a Trane TMM front return unit. Fresh after the install the unit kept pumping down, gas would not flow through to the suction. Long story short we pinned the TXV, replaced it with another Danfoss, and same issue occurred. We ended up installing another new AHU.
      Anyway I haven't dealt with a stainless steel TXV. Would be an interesting encounter. Thanks for your help though, your kindness encouraged me. I will definitely use your advice, with the flux. 👍

    So you can use a 502 exp valve with 404a? Is their a good substitution chart available?

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 6 років тому +1

      the pressure/temperature chart is withing 4 lbs or less across the whole range, same valve will work for either gas, small adjustment may be needed ;)
      changing-over is hard because the oils are different, R502 is "CFC" and used mineral oil. where 404 is HFC and uses POE oil mostly.

    • @NorCal-refrigeration
      @NorCal-refrigeration  6 років тому +2

      Hvac 1 sporlan web sight has all the TXV listed. 502 was usually used on low temp ( freezers ) 404a was the replacement for it. Then it was used on medium temp. And you only needed one refrigerant for both. When I started R-12 was medium temp R502 freezers and R-22 was for A/C.

Granger is a good place, but it's just real expensive 9 times out of 10. never used it for getting units from. just respiratoors, industrial stuff, big trash cans , Rain boots, stuff like that.sometimes i get exhauster motors from them , relays -omron relays etc.
