Incredibly informative videos!! I just found your channel but I have been watching all your videos on the LS swap. I should really be asleep right now but I can’t stop watching 😂🤣😂 I have a 1985 c10 swb that I have had since I was in high school 1999-2002. I have been wanting to do the LS swap to it but do not have the knowledge or time to do it. Would like to get it done so that my oldest son can drive it in a few years when he turns 16. Not looking to make it fast, just something dependable that sounds good. I have been looking to find someone to do the swap for me but it can be hard to trust someone that just says they can do it. After watching these videos it’s very clear that you know what you are doing. I live about 4 hours from the area you said you are located. If I could bring my truck to you, would you be willing to do the swap? It looks like you have a lot going already so I understand if you are not interested. Either way, I’m loving the videos and look forward to watching this channel grow!
Thanks for watching. If you would like to get a hold of us concerning a possible swap just send us a message at uglytruckexperience@gmail.com. Would love to hear about your truck. That would be a great truck for a 16 year old and a great way to keep that truck on the road. Thanks
Thanks for another in-depth, deep-dive. It appears that All-Data and a scan tool is key to doing wiring. Unfortunately I'm just a shade tree mechanic and that stuff is way too pricy. I guess I'll have to test it "live". Look out!
Alldata and Mitchell both have option for individuals with project.cars that is pretty reasonable. It gives access to all the info for what your working on. Thanks.for watching
Great Video! I', thinking though...the way that you have the normally closed brake signal wired into that relay, the relay is energized all of the time when the vehicle is running. You could have run that wire through pin 30 and 87A, and then used a simple signal from your brake light switch (which is right in the same vicinity) on pin 85 to open that connection. That way the relay would only be energized when you step on the brakes.
Hello Jeff. You are correct. I use that method when wiring up a truck that did not originally have cruise control. On the ones that were equipped with cruise I use this method just to keep my cruise circuit separate from any other circuit. On this one, the relay will only have power when the cruise is on. If I was wiring one up for myself, I would wire it like you described. These are going back to customers that are hundreds of miles away, so I try to isolate the circuits in case someone has to work on it in the future. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it. Jerry
Thanks for the great video. I've watched a lot of your videos while doing my first LS swap. You guys explain everything so good! Can I do this setup on my 2000 5.3 drive by cable setup? Its in a 86 Chevy K10. Thanks!
Hello Tyler. If your running a drive by cable, you will have to use a cable cruise control box from a donor. It wires very similar to this drive by wire. I have always wanted to do one but have not gotten to it yet. Let us know how it goes if you get down to it. Thanks for watching our stuff. We appreciate it. Jerry and Emily.
I'm swapping in a 02 DBC 5.3 into a 94 S10. Hoping I can get my cruise control to work. Already have the cruise control module mounted on the firewall and the cable connected to the throttle body. Have not got it running yet so have not messed with the cruise control wiring at all yet. Shouldn't be to hard. The 02 DBC amd 94 s10 are very similar whenni comes to cruise control.
Thanks Shady. That's a pretty interesting swap. Just for fun I'm going to look at some wiring diagrams on that one. We appreciate you tuning in! --Jerry and Emily
Like the videos and I used the factory fuse box out of Yukon to put in my 1993 Chevy c1500 with a lq9. Works good was wondering if this will work on mine is the relay going to work with it or need change some wires thanks
Hello Zeke. I will have to take a look at the wiring diagram on that 93 to help answer your question. If I was going to guess, I would say that the switch will work in the same manner but am not sure if it would need the relay. It may have a double brake switch already. If I can get a moment, I will take a look. Thanks. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience I went to junk yard and it does have two switches one on top for the cruise control shut off and the one for the brake lights. This vid popped up on my feed as I was just starting to wonder how I'd tackle keeping cruise control on my 91 S10 that is getting a 2003 4.8L and 4l60e. I am going with DBC and saw that you have DBW. Would this work with a DBC setup?
The drive by cable wiring is very similar to this. We haven't had the opportunity to do one yet. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it. Jerry and Emily.
I did the LS swap into my 61 Pontiac. Used the original 2004 Silverado harness , fuse box, TAC module and Cruise switch. My cruise doesn't work. I supplied keyed power directly to the switch. (used the O2 sensor downstream circuit) I checked It at the C100 connector. The switch functions properly ...tested all four wires for power when pressed, etc .. The original CHMSL wire C2 A-10 is wired from the fuse box to TAC module as it was in the factory harness. I didn't touch it. I wired purple C1 C12 TCC signal wire to the dual function brake switch with power on when pedal is not depressed. That was tested and works. I tested the original CHMSL wire C2 A-10 and there is no power to it. Does the computer power that wire up when the vehicle is in motion or something? Scratching my head. Where does C2 C12 get its power from? I think that might be my problem. Do I also have to connect the C3 A5 purple TCC Brake / signal wire to the brake switch?
Hey Bill. It sounds like you have it wired correctly. As long as you have power at C2 A10 with brake on and power off at C1 C12 you have it wired correctly. You are probably going to have to wire a resistor into the CHMSL circuit. That will give it the impression that the brake lamp and chmsl bulbs are not burnt out and let the cruise control apply. I use the same little gold resistors that people use for the led lights to keep them from hyper flashing. You could also wire in a light bulb just to test this theory. Add a wire from C2 A10 through the resistor or bulb with the other lead from resistor going to ground. I bet cruise will work after that. The powertrain diagram does not show that extra circuit on that truck. It is shown in the exterior wiring circuit but still a complicated circuit. Let me know. Hope this helps. Jerry
Walk to this rabbit hole with me. If you were to use the factory LS harness and c100 connector: * The dark blue wire would go to position A: Set Cruise. * The Grey wire would go to position L: Cruise On. * The Dark Green wire (Grey/Black wire in the factory LS C100 connector) would go to position S: Cruise Resume. What throws me for a loop is that on a regular DBW standalone harness the only other wire that would need to be connected is the Light Blue wire which is in the C2 Connector, Position A10. I wanted to get a second opinion but I'm pretty sure that your 87A Light Blue wire: Cruise Release would get tee'd into this wire from the C2 Connector and the Cruise Control option and TCC Brake should work accordingly.
Most of the wiring diagrams for those that I have seen are not correct. The wiring that goes to the CHMSL is normally open and the one that goes to the brake switch is normally closed booking down the road with your foot not on the brake. When you apply the brake, it just does the opposite. No power to CHMSL and power to brake signal at the throttle actuator. I have checked it with the actual donor and confirmed that. There are other way's to wire it, but this is the way I prefer to do it. It is built in for some redundancy to make sure everything is all good. Jerry

I'm not sure if you can purchase just the tool without a subscription to the shop program, but it's from AllData. It's a Bluetooth OBD2 reader and a tablet. Thanks for watching! --Emily
How does this hook up to the cruise control actuator on a 78 blazer. it’s the older mechanical style with the button on the end of the lever ……..on the steering column next to the column tilt actuator. There is no resume.
It’s a 2003 with tac module. Dbw
Hello Jack. You might have less headache if you put a later model switch in that has all of the outputs that run everything. Jerry
Are u using the original oil pan from the 5.3 ?
Yes, this truck has the stock 5.3 oil pan... But we did install a low profile pan on this 78 C10 if you want to check it out! ua-cam.com/video/XanlbyNiLzE/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the awesum videos u guys r awesum an very helpful :)
Does the cruise control and the ABS work on PCM?
Thanks for watching! The PCM and the throttle control module control the cruise control. The ABS is totally separate and has its own module. --Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience Does the PCM need programming to start the cruise
control?
Also, all wire connections are correct, yet it does not work (does it have anything to do with the speedometer because it is completely disconnected and I have not finished running it)
I need a little more info on what you are working on. Thanks Jerry
Does this apply to dbc set up?
Hey Francis. Drive by cable uses a cable box to hold the throttle plates open. The wiring does work in a very similar way though. I have always wanted to wire one up but have never had the chance. Jerry
So is that a drive by wire system?
Yep! The cable operated throttle has a cruise control module under the hood that the cable goes to.
What gas pedal did you use for the swap?
Hello Danny. We use the adjustable pedals. There are a ton of them out there to purchase. Here is a link to our video on them. studio.ua-cam.com/users/video_qO5Jjl6Py0/edit
@UglyTruckExperience if I had a drive by cable set up what would be the difference in wiring?
What do you have for engine, transmission, harness, ecm? Year and model and is it already a functioning swap with drive by cable. Jerry
Do you have drive by cable or drive by wire throttle bodie?
Thanks for watching! This one is drive by wire.
Can i youse the oem 1990 ck1500 turn signal cruise control with a throttle drive by wire?
Would this work on an 82 style??
If the truck originally had cruise control it would absolutely work. You would still need to get a wiring diagram for that truck and double check everything but it is very similar if not the same.
Sub and got that bell ringing! Great Vid! Thank you!
Thanks so much for subscribing! We appreciate you watching!
How have one showing how get the speedo working
We've used the Dakota Digital adapters, and they've been great. You'll want to make sure you order the right cable for your truck and setup, but it's pretty straightforward. Here's a link! ua-cam.com/video/hLqXYWG_WhY/v-deo.html

How can this be done on a lt engine
We're going to get into some of the Gen 4 and Gen 5 stuff soon. The body control module is incorporated into the cruise control system on the LT along with a few other things. Very similar to Gen 4 LS. They couldn't just keep it simple. Thanks for tuning in! --Jerry and Emily
Emily, I can’t remember your husband’s name
👋👋 Hey Ray! His name is Jerry.
