Is your chicken pin or coop better than this? If you think so tell us all about your setup in the comments. Lets compare ideas and see who has the best setup.
I will be assembling the coop back together live tomorrow on freedom acres to show that it is just as easy to put together as it is to take apart. we will be bringing some of the big girls out to see their new home.
How do you keep the chickens warm in the winter? I want an all-around coop, not just summer proof. I'm saying this because I like this coop a lot, but I wonder if this will also keep my chickens warm in December?
Not just words, ALL ACTION! Who can't appreciate that??? Appreciate the demo Lead! 😊 Safe travels back and forth to Freedom Acres to you and Lady Lead 😊
Wow! That really does seem like a simple and easy set and break down. I shared this with a family member that’s thinking about getting chickens. Thanks for sharing.😊
This video made me think of my Dad and Mother, they are from Mississippi. If they were still living I would purchase enough land for us to live on it and farm. My Dad built us a chicken coup when I was a child with scrap wood from his job and chicken wire after my Mother fell in the snow chasing a dog after our chickens in the city. It held up for years after getting rid of chickens due to a neighbor reporting us...
Love my producers pride poultry pen. I disassembled and moved by myself and then set it back up. Even 60 year old girls can do it. ☺️ I would love a second one to expand also. I am so doing this 2x4 trick tomorrow. Thanks for that Ingenious tip.
I agree I have the producers pride large run with the coop. We ended up putting together another coop for more space, during the day they still hang out in the same run and have room to roam. It is a great product.
I have two of them end to end - LOVE THEM!!!! I have a had a few issues. Mainly now small birds and Bio-Security. Wrapped them in chicken wire and the birds still come through the chicken wire itself. Beyond that - so far - so good. One got damaged in transit (Shipping) TSC did assist in that matter. They are a great investment. Wish they were made with a Hardware Cloth type heavy duty still like the base of the coop they have - and the coop in the run triple protection for the ladies.
I live in an urban neighborhood, 5 miles from a State Capital. If I put this in my backyard with chickens in it, the local raccoons would reach through those openings to grab a bird and bite the heads off. Rats and squirrels would squeeze between the panel connections and eat all the food. Young possums would be able to make off with any eggs as they squeeze through behind rats and squirrels. Foxes could slither under it and feast on my girls. The only use is to keep dogs and coyotes at bay. If I had this in my backyard, I'd be up nights with my angle grinder and a roll of hardware cloth struggling to make it predator-safe. I long for an out-of-the-box solution, one that can be reconfigured as needed for broody pens, sick animals, ever-changing flock sizes, and all the things we need a portable cage to do. I'd even love something like this to secure my container plants from the ravages of birds and squirrels. But this product is not even close. Sorry.
You must live in a very warm climate the way you use those 2x4 as chicken roosts, all quasi open-air. I like the idea of folding down and easy transport.
We have the same chicken coop and we absolutely love it!! You are right, they are the best! (Btw you can also purchase the retriever expendable welded wire dog kennel at TSC and just had a roof to it to get the same coop) Thanks for all the videos!
I had to step my game up a couple of years ago Sapper. During 2020 we could afford to keep losing birds to predators. And to be honest, things have gotten even worse if you ask me.😂
Cool as a fan. Video was worth it for that alone. After building a mobile wood coop and run that's pretty heavy I wonder how much better off I'd have been trying this first. The one issue I see for areas with weasel population are the gaps, a weasel will be in there with no resistance.
I’m sold! You have great ideas for how to turn it into an actual coop. I was so confused about nesting boxes and roosting bars. I’m going to do them exactly like yours!! Thank you! They sell a cover for it too fyi!
I built this over the New Year weekend. I’m so glad I did. I did the roosting bars and nest box shelf like you showed. Thanks!!! I’m so happy. I can tell my chickens are too. My store bought coops were falling apart. This one will last a long time. I’m going to attach a second one as well when I have another long weekend. Thanks again! 🐓
We bought one of these a few months ago and so far we are as enthusiastic as you are. I'm worried about weasel and mink. We've seen a couple mink in the area. I'm not sure where you are, do you have those types of predators? I was thinking of lining ours with 1/2 in wire mesh, but that's a bit of a job, if it is not necessary. Thanks for your work!
Sorry to say that there are several instances on Raccoons reaching into large openings like that and pulling the bird's head out and killing it - horribly. You should put hardwire mesh over the outside of those runs.
Lead I got the retriever dog kennel from TS, it’s basically the same thing but in stead of the cage roof it’s a tarp cover and I ran hard wire cloth under the tarp just incase the raccoons try to tear through the tarp. 👍💪🙏
@@leadfarmer73 🤣🤣, Hey you are a doer bro!!! that's why we all watch your videos, I'm new to the chicken raising game, its scary and new for me, but I got nothing to lose by trying. You and lady lead encourage us in a daily, keep moving forward bro. 👍👊
Guava 👋🏾 Uncle Lead! Do you have to put anything around the bottom or underneath the coop to keep things from digging in? Thanks for sharing and stay blessed fam! -Calvin

Not going to lie, the entire time watching this, I was hoping you had the birds corralled up somewhere while you were taking it down, to avoid the great chicken escape lol. Looks like everything went very well.
Can you do a follow up on the chicken food you been giving them? Last year you fed them beans and pasta. Did you change feed? Do you still give them this? Do you suppliment with other foods for vitamins?
This video has a great audio! What do you use? Also, there are animals that can dig under the cages! Maybe use a cement pad and put dirt and grass on top of it!
I Love mine!! I have rabbits in mine on the ground so I lined the bottom and about 2 ft up the sides with smaller wire. Im about to get another for my quail. Raccoons can not get in either. ❤
Lead just pray brother! The most high will reveal to you what’s going on in this world! Pray for like minded people for you to attach yourself to. What’s happening is spiritual! Preparing is good but without YAH it’s not gonna mean much. Shalom!
If you have raccoons in your area I recommend adding smaller wire ( like hardware cloth) at each end of the roosts. Raccoons reach through and grab a chicken then pull a foot or head through and start eating. We also have put solid metal (or wood) up about 2 feet at the bottom. This keeps the wind from blowing through at the ground level so keeps warmer and makes it chick safe. Our cages are similar construction and started life as heavy dog kennels. Great cages. We often use them to raise meat bird chicks or move a setting mama in and let them hatch their babies and keep them safe the first weeks.

Thank you I wondered how easy it was when I looked at it the store it's so study so I figured it was hard
How to get in touch with you ? Considering buying some of your fruit trees if you have any left to sell...

In fact, there are cheaper chicken houses, you can take a look at ZiDtia Chicken Coop

I love the chickens. Reminds me of when I would collect the eggs for my grandma. Awesome chicken coup. You are a great teacher.
I love how easy that was to disassemble and to watch you reassemble on the new land.😊
I will be assembling it back together live tomorrow on freedom acres
Thank you for sharing! That's still a lot of gaps for snakes. I'll have to line the sides and bottom with 4" hardwired cloth.
Nothing fancy, man you got it so fancy I'm moving in. ❤

Appreciate this. Great info, especially if you've purchased coops over & over again.
Do you think they could be converted into a green houses by adding some polycarbonate panels.

Fantastic! like that it folded and each individual panel didn't have to be taken apart! Approx. weight in carton?

Hey Bro, I got the Producers Pride cages too. It really is good, my chickens are 6 weeks and going out today for the 1st time
these cages are the best when it come to predators. I have them on security cameras, trying hard to get my birds at night but they eventually give up.

Okay, what do you use for digging under the coupe preditors around your coupe?
Hey Lead, where you put them for winter? I'm trying to decide which coop to get but it gets cold here. Thanks
We get too cold here id have to make a box area with door for fall winter
Guava 👋🏾 Uncle Lead! Do you have to put anything around the bottom or underneath the coop to keep things from digging in? Thanks for sharing and stay blessed fam!
-Calvin
I don't because the birds like to dig. but on the outside I pound fencing into the ground so it discourages predators from digging.
I put wire on the bottom of mine. I have a raccoon problem. They haven't been able to get in. ❤
Ok this good information thank you posting this info 👍❤️

How well these work in a cold climate in the winter. Is there anything you would do for winter to this cage.
Sweet!
thank you Paulette

Hey LF and LL I love what im seeing xoxo
I Love mine!! I have rabbits in mine on the ground so I lined the bottom and about 2 ft up the sides with smaller wire. Im about to get another for my quail. Raccoons can not get in either. ❤
Also the size is great for zip tying a tarp over the top and sides for rain protection. Fits great.

If they are in dirt becareful nothing digs under and they don't dig out. We had something trying to dig in by the main door.
Do you have to fight with flies? How do you get rid of them
ONLY thing that I use is hardware cloth to protect from snakes, opossum, squirrels, rats, mice, raccoons, etc. etc. This would not work for me.
So what’s this thing called?
How much does it cost?
Where can I get one?

zero smells. ZERO! it's the only way I do their coops for about 15 years now

How do you guard against snakes?

They sure will. I have a “one armed” rooster now from that happening.
What do you do in the winter time? Won't they freeze? 🤔 I know it doesn't take much for processed chicken meat to freeze.
They are birds. I know we never think about it but yup chickens are just big birds. And what do birds do in the winter? 🥶 🤣😉

yes. they can withstand the cold just like the little birds in your backyard.
