With your excellent DVD, I have learned how to effectively use my trekking poles and Ihave become a better hiker. My knees are also a whole lot happier since I have used my poles. Going down the trails, it is as if you are hiking next to me, instructing me around every bend and up every hill. I'd recommend your DVD to anyone who loves the outdoors and also wants to exercise effectively. Keep on posting more videos.

Excellent! I've discovered that once you get used to using them, you can't hike without them - like having 2 extra legs! Definitely going to incorporate this valuable info in a future segment of Hikers World. Thanks again!

I bought trekking poles to help my knees on downhill. I didn't realize that they help a lot going up the trails too! Hiking is easier with trekking poles.

I'm looking to get into nordic walking as an alternate form of outdoor activity and exercise. Last winter, I purchased a pair of snowshoes with poles, similar to the type your demonstrating here, with the height adjustment and rubber tips. Will I be able to use those when walking? How important are the rubber tips? What type of shoes would you recommend? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

For comprehensive instruction on all terrain, I recommend the award-winning DVD. Practice segments, learning progressions, drills, equipment, pole care. To really get the benefits: power, endurance, upper body strength, fat burning, USING YOUR MUSCLES TO PRESERVE YOUR JOINTS, you need to use them correctly. For about $15 you get it all :)
updated 2008, gorgeous scenery, made in USA, 1 hour 46 minutes of helpful info.

Can I use my trekking poles (with the rubber endings on) also for Nordic walking? Thanks.

@58JayKay Great Cross Training! Be sure to check out the Nordic Walking page at the AdventureBuddies website as well as our new blog for tutorials and benefits comparisons. Rubber tips are essential. See blog for shoe recommendations. Not sure about the poles you have. Probably you can use them but possibly not optimally. If you're going to do an activity, having optimal gear (see blog for what this means) can significantly improve your performance & benefits. Enjoy!

Learning optimal use provides huge benefits - that's our point! On downhill, save your knees by using rectus abdominus, pectoralis & biceps muscles. The core muscles absorb stress from your knees. Strengthening the muscles is just one of the many benefits. Impaling is not something we see with even basic instruction.
The Hiking Poles DVD has downhill instruction as well as many tips for more safely and completely descending. Visit AdventureBuddies site for more info.

I've taught people with Parkinson's, MS, TKR, PF, PN, balance issues, etc. My suggestion is to get the DVD (available on my website: AdventureBuddies. NET). For $14.95 you can learn everything you need about using poles optimally. Then, after watching, feel free to contact me directly via my website and I'll be happy to answer your specific questions. Happy Hiking and Good Luck!

Here's what I think: You can Nordic Walk with Trekking Poles, but you would not want to hike with Nordic Walking poles. If you're going to do a lot of Nordic PoleWalking, you might want to invest in NW poles. Visit our Facebook(dot)com/PoleWalking page for more info or the website PolesForMobility(dot)com
