  • The former coal baron Trevor St Baker says renewables will play the biggest role in Australia's transition to net zero but is advocating for a backup of 10 to 15 percent nuclear energy generation going into the mix, and says the current moratorium on nuclear should be overturned.
It comes during the debate on the Opposition's uncosted proposal to build seven nuclear power plants. But the founder of the St Baker Energy Innovation Fund and the Victoria Energy Professor Bruce Mountain say there is almost enough untapped potential for rooftop solar supported by large-scale batteries to meet the electricity demands of the grid.
