I think the plain silver one in group two will be a male, because it doesn't show any other patterns.
Do you really want to keep them in groups later on? You know, they can be really scary killers from one day to the other, not only the males, also the females. I'd not try to experiment with that, to be honest. But maybe i misunderstood you. 😬
It's just, we always get to see what happens in our facebook group. There are already too many people who won't listen that these birds are monogam. They'll show us their scalped or half skinned birds and wonder why, because "they harmonized since forever" 🙈
Anyways, I like you video idea and i'm patiently waiting for week 5 👍

You think that plain silver is a male ? I hope so!
So these birds are meant to be kept in pairs? From everything that I've seen or heard they always say that you should keep 2 females to one male? When i had my first set I had them in pairs but after the female laid her first clutch of eggs she chased the male out of the cage and never came back.
And yeah I saw that scalped one it was so sad, I can't imagine having to see that on one of my precious birds! So do you keep yours in pairs to prevent this?

@@stephanieyang9168 I have a silver one that looks exactly like yours, only mine're two weeks younger than yours. It's just a guess that they'll be males, but your other silver quail has this typical female pattern, which i've never seen in silver males before.
To be honest, these are my first button quails, but i've been researching for almost two years. I've also been in those facebook groups since, that's why i see those pictures often. The problem is that people think they can handle button quails the same way as japanese quails, though they're different species. I'm german and we're a really strict folk when it comes to taking care of pets (well most of us at least) Best example is the german style of hamster enclosures xD. Sorry that i can only give you second hand experiences, but in a few weeks i'll keep my buttons definitely in pairs. It's also good for the males if you keep pairs, because if you'd pair up two or three females to one male, other males will have to be given away or be killed. That's why so many males are already going to die, it's just so sad.
As for your last pair, i think it's normal that the female can be agressive towards the male to protect her eggs. But from what i've heard, you'd only have to seperate the male for a few days and they should be fine by then. Pity that yours was chased off so hard, i'm sorry 😔

CaptainOwk yes they say that the silver are hard to tell the gender, but i will watch for its behaviors to see if its a male or female. And for the other silver one from what i was seeing its a silver red breasted female. So it's a mix silver not a full like the darker one.
I think people mostly keep them in groups because they want to keep the female from balding on their backs, maybe I will do a trial of groups and if that doesn't work then I will try to pair them off if I have enough male to female and try it that way.
Also when I researched about separation they said its very hard to get quails to like each other if they already don't like each other even if you separate them for a few days when it comes back it will still get attacked if they truly don't like each other. But its okay because I wasnt planning on matching those two up, I want to try to breed them by color to not get so many mixed hatchlings!
Did you hatch eggs from an incubator or did you buy them as chicks ? How many do you have ?

@@stephanieyang9168 I'd like to give you a link from a breeder in switzerland. It's written in german, but she has a page where she shows the variations that she's breeding (she also seperates to get the true colors). The pictures always show the male and underneath the female. That might be interesting for you.
Well yes, if they don't like each other from the start that's difficult indeed. Imagine you have to live with a partner who's been chosen for you from your parents 🙉 Oh boy.
I heard that reason as well. I'm not sure how you can prevent the males balding the back of the females too much. But i guess it's a result of not enough space or hidings. And if you have more females you're just spreading the problem on all of them, don't ya? 🤔
I appreciate that you' re listening to me and i think you're really caring about all of them. I hope it'll all work out for you and them. ☺️
I had only four eggs in the incubator, because i wanted to make sure that i have enough space to keep every hatchling. So in the worst case i'd have four pairs at the end, that was the thought 😂😁
All eggs were bought from different places to make sure the chicks that hatch will have different bloodlines, just in case i could at least pair two of them up. And i also hatched four eggs to make sure that there won't be a lonly chick, even though it could have happened anyways, it was a risk. But everything worked out pretty well, all hatched, they're healthy and i don't mind which gender they'll be ☺️
