This guy has single handily convinced me to never go near a new build in my entire life.
You can only trust the Victorians and their child labour usage.
Depends on the reputation
I've found myself actively looking for fake weep vents when I'm near some new builds.
I'm in one as a first owner! You are right, avoid at huge cost!
@@johnfaulkner6776 what part of the country may I ask?
Fark. This makes my DIY jobs look like a master tradesman.
Every time my wife says "why don't you pay someone to do that" I show her one of these videos, there are good tradespeople out there but finding them and getting a job done this side of Christmas next century some time is mostly a nightmare.
My Dad had a new kitchen put in. He kept shopping around for the cheapest price and in the end he had a large kitchen made with the cheapest materials with issues that I noticed.
- Cold draft is coming in from the top of the cupboards now. (Apparently we may not have insulation in the walls).
- Tiles are badly done, not straight, ugly edges etc.
- Exposed plasterboard in gaps next to the units.
- Didn't plan a spot to place a freezer in the kitchen.
- Kitchen cupboard shelves are warping and look like they could break, especially in the extra wide cupboards which seem like they need more support in the middle.
- Had a cheap laminate and hard to clean counter put in. It has an odd texture to it. Seriously, it's not as easy to clean as the previous smooth countertop of the same material.
My Dad mostly hires good tradespeople but with this kitchen it seems like a waste of money, although it's bigger, in some ways it's worse than the previous kitchen.
The building industry in the UK is a complete disgrace. Large developers throwing up substandard homes as quickly and cheaply as possiblem. Leaving homeowners and renters to pick up the pieces.
Back in 2016, I had the misfortune of moving into a new build flat, thrown up by a complete cowboy company.
When I moved in, the wood flooring, and all the walls were caked in paint dust, because the walls have been sanded down but not cleaned off. The property have no opening Windows, and the extraction system that was totally inadequate. Meaning the property was baking throughout the whole summer.
That was ok though, as they are balanced it out with one of the main radiators not working. Meaning it was freezing cold in winter.
And the cherry on top: the whole building was so shoddily put together that it started leaking. I had water coming into my flat during heavy rain. That also put a giant bucket in the lobby, to catch a constant drip drip drip. 😄
Thankfully the issues were eventually sorted. But only after the original building/management company went into administration, another company started sorting out the remedial work. Complete cowboys 🤠
I built my own house. It was my first complete build- start to finish, bottom to top. This video cheers me up no end !
Flip flop winkle spanner. 😂. I’ll be using that one. Thanks.
My Dad: "Great, I found someone to do it for half the price".
The finished job:
The issue is cheap eastern European labor that don't give a crap and sod off back home at the end of it. Most don't come back as they make enough money from one trip.
12/12 22 Was involved with a Developer 3 decades or so ago & experienced poor finishing from sub-contractors. Could'nt get them to perform - they were doing foreigners for Directors who never came on-site, in one case within 2 miles from the Office, to experience a Handover or even carry out any pre Completion checks. Their main concern were Financial Completions squeezed into a last Friday of the month deadline. Soul destroying for anyone trying to do Good Work ! Quality - good quality - concerns was just a talking shop ! By the looks of these vid's things have deteriorated further ! Recommend anyone buying new to proceed with caution !
Alright, now I feel much better. My place dates back to the 70s but was built in waaaaay better quality!
Keep up the good work. It would be nice to see one of these houses with a before and after the repairs have been done.
03:30 somebody was planning a fake weep vent I suspect 😂
To be fare the electric box warning was only printed in English ...😉
fair*
Do they no longer do elbows for toilet waste? Can't remember the last time I didn't see a flex on the bk of the toilet on these videos. I absolutely love the commentary on these videos more than makes up for the YEE HAAS workmanship
Wouldn’t want this guy anywhere near one of my jobs 😂😂
Then I wouldn't want you anywhere near my house 😉
There's supposed to be a Site Manager who inspects every new build property before they sign them off. It shouldn't need an external snag expert to have to come on site and point out dozens of potentially dangerous faults. They should either have never happened or been corrected before the signing off process. It is indeed, ridiculous.
We have inspected ourselves and found nothing wrong.....
The site managers are there however modern day ones do absolutely fuck other than sell materials on side
Looking at these makes me realise just how good were the builders doing my house refurb. Thanks guys.
I loved the "Frankenstein Finish please".. all totally Shocking.
As someone in the industry, it's worth paying for your own inspector to check the build at all stages not just at the end when the damage is done
it would be interesting to find out how you are being asked to inspect these properties...is it by the new owners ...and what are the repercussions and costs to fix...ect
New owners. They’re a private company.
The people who can't spell etc right, shocking 🤯
The scary part is....Some of these issues can cause serious harm or even take yours and your families life.
The companies are supposed to have people to go through the snags before handover clearly there guide dogs were busy that day
12/12 22 Health concerns around the WC would occur soon after daily use.
The day the NHBC became happy to accept a mastic seal to a porch canopy instead of lead flashing was officially the day the building industry died in the UK. Just imagine a canopy seal leaking, filling up with rainwater and rotting the ply framing internally. The whole lot is gonna come down like a fish tank full of water. Hopefully not on the home owners head. We have been back to one canopy and it has water in after about 3 months so it's only a matter of time!
my at the time elderly parents moved into a new build abuot 15 years ago, tons of problems with their house but they like many others just wouldn't notice unless pointed out... the folk who make these houses know that generally lots of stuff won't ever get picked up , depressing!
You're incorrect about those stairs, they're cambered so you can take them at speed 😂
These Builders thought "The Plank" was a training film.
These videos make me feel confident in my meagre craftsmanship abilities
Where did the builders tie up their horses...
the issue is that these new build companies are subcontracting to subcontractors who are then subcontracting to other people. this causes people to do things cheaply or sloppy/fast. the new build goes to a plumber we will give u X amount for doing the first fix on all our bathrooms, at a set price. sounds good on paper but the faster you do the work the more u earn, and the cheaper the mats the more u earn. so it promotes cutting corners. if the building firms hired people to do a job full time and paid well they would then get better finishes. so moral of the story is there is no accountability because of subcontracting.
If I am going to buy a new house and I find these kind of issues, do I have the right for a repair or reject the property?
I picture Gareth Thomas in my head while listening to yer man talking!
Most of these are superficial and can be fixed easily. With this low quality of workmanship, I would be more worried about the things that an inspector cannot see. How about foundations, basement water proofing, airtight vapor barriers, quality of insulation, waterproofing in bathrooms, cavity wall insulation, underground drainage pipes, etc.? These issues could show up years later when all effective warranties have expired.
they are going for the "greed holiday villa " look
how can people walk away happy with there work ,fair play to you for showing how shabby some cowboys are
That last house, with all those faults, especially regarding the brickwork, what would need doing? Is it sometimes better to rip it down and restart?
For anything structural, if a structural engineer says its ok then its ok, otherwise its just cosmetic.
What are you builder doing out there in the UK!!!!
well the art of bodging is still alive ; i think anyone still thinking of buying a new build should employ a company such as this it is very sad
ill never buy a new build unless i get a house built for myself and ican see the work being done
Do these problems actually get resolved?
They stopped making decent houses in the late 60's early 70's.
Ironically, a lot of the mass housing built in the 50's was also very poor especially in areas that had been bombed like the Midlands. They were thrown up, often by poorly skilled trades in the push to get the country back on its feet after the war.
Too be fair I don’t know why they use the cheap ugly toilets that expose the waste pipe and water supply, a little bit extra and you have a nice concealed unit that look much more pleasing on the eye than any top finish around an exposed waste pipe
More difficult to install! The monkeys that work on these sites can barely manage to plumb in a toilet when they can access all the connections - can you imagine the number of leaks when all the joints are concealed?!
Ridddicalus I love it 🤣🤣
I've worked in a lot of new builds in my area, and its absolutely shocking what passes these days. It's not just the workmanship and shoddy finishing, it's the use of cheap materials, lack of thought gone into installs, drainage issues....it goes on and on, and every new site is the same. You couldn't give me one of these new builds. Not unless I could flog it straight on.
I blame Tony Blair. Everyone should go to university - but you can't apprentice to be a proper trade at university.
Building industry doesn't like to spend on training. We as a nation no longer invest in our future. HS2 a money pit to be emptied by the construction companies...
Yeah he just wanted everyone in student loan debt.
@@beeleigh23
The idea of high levels of students is good, but the execution of the policy was flawed.
Ah, the Apocalypse finish...
"Do not make holes in meter box" What the hell was so hard to understand about that? Cowboys gonna cowboy
Perhaps the workmen can’t read English.
Maybe it was Danny Trejo fitting that door furniture :)
Wish he come down to my house in Porthcawl my builder messed house up so bad I lost 200k on price no joke
Shocking
I reckon the site managers are sniffin in the office n to para to leave to check over the work😂😂
I love the accent. 'Redicless' lol
Does the building company get reported or does someone just come and fix it all?
On the plus side, the tradesmen and women who are conscientious and do high-quality work are in high demand and get to charge more, seriously, who is passing these jobs!
will you be name and shaming the house builders ? .. Love ya videos
Why are they using Flexi couplers on the toilet waste
Absolutely shocking I tell you
I do wonder how CML's are issued to new builds, NHBC clearly aren't doing their jobs
These developers are just taking the piss now!
I am beginning to think trained baboons could do a better job on these houses.
That last clip was horrendous. You should name the builder. It’s a shame buyers don’t have the right to say “I want my money back” They’d soon sort themselves out!!
By that time you have exchanged and completed! Provision to hold back a sensible retention until all snagging is complete would help with the lesser issues.
UK has new build warranties.
It's complicated (ish), a quick glance shows a 2 year developer warrantee that definitely covers everything show in this video.
Who the hell would want one of those "Jerry built" crap boxes.
shame you can't name and shame the companies that's building these houses they shouldn't be in the building game
That last one needs a full video. I can’t believe how bad new builds are. People working on a bad price is no good at all.
Do you ever name and shame?
The UK needs a half decent earthquake most of these piece of shit new builds will fall down the fact most of these houses in the video will be 350k+ is fucking unreal
I wish you could name and shame the build site managers and the house builder. That might wake them up a bit!
A machete 😂😂😂
Deanobox builders hate him
Good old English building....
Winkle Spannering of the highest order !! 🤦🏻
Does no one ever get in trouble for all this?
The site manager is fine with it as they are the first ones signing off the work. So no, nobody gets in trouble.
@@twistsouth514 omg. That's atrocious!
@@vmm5163 it’s because the site manager only cares about the house being finished on time because then he gets his bonus. You should see some of the shockers in my Taylor Wimpey house. Plaster that looks like it was just thrown at the wall and left like that. I have a friend who manages utilities across various sites and she says sometimes the site manager will take several pictures of things in one house that’s done neat and send those pictures to the NHBC inspectors claiming they are several different houses. It’s absolutely disgusting, these people should be in prison.
Nothing ever gets done about it though because they are not held accountable. What it’s going to take is for someone to literally die because their house collapses on them. Only then will this worsening problem maybe get resolved. And yes, it’s that bad. They miss structural components and the snaggers - as thorough as some are - can’t possibly find those things that are inside the walls and floors. You’ll find out though, when a wall falls down or your floor collapses or a fire starts because the electricians wiring your brand spanking new house cut corners to meet deadlines and nobody checked.
typical
Did they already call the polish back?
Should be fucking criminal. The directors of these companies need to be in prison. It's the only way they will actually give a shit.
All the building companies are big tory donors. Don't expect government pressure.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's what you call house bashing just bash em up and move on to the next house doesn't matter what they look like just get em up 🤔👎
You only have to look at this video to to think not to buy a new
Is this the exception or the rule? All the deals for first-time buys are new builds but I don't want to risk this garbage. The question is if this is what you can see what about everything you cannot.
To be honest that's the same in every house. You can only see surface level unless you rip the place apart
This guy has shown me to never buy a home in the UK
90٪ of the new built houses in the UK look like match boxes.
Absolutely no design or style
Its all a bit redikalous..
The new builds are getting worse and worse. How bad do you think they will get before someone does something about all this CRAP!!!!!!!
Hopefully the new code of conduct and ombudsman will sort these people out!!!
Do a job on your house and fill out a million forms pay a fortune and get building control all over you..
build a new house get charged a fortune for a tiny plot, rough it in and the builder self certifies their work...
Something wrong...😂😂😂
Can we some examples of your work
Never buy a new build off plan. Asking for trouble.
Yikes house crash will show there true value :)
Reedikkerluss!!! Haha! Seriously awful workmanship. I'd be ashamed of doing a DIY job that badly.
Who buys em.
Weston Homes are the worst of the lot
I could do a betterjob
Pointless watching this , he never names the builders
I could do better work and I'm no builder or carpenter.
This is what happens when your building team consists of 80% apprentices on less than minimum wage.
This is even worth as buying Chinese crap from Amazon. Totally shocking...
Englishmen laziest specimen ever created. Bring in the foreign builders half price work all hours and top quality.
Even I could do better than that , maybe I should get a job on a building site, who is this company? 🏴🌧️
Close the borders!
New build no thanks
Never buy new.
DONT BUY A NEW BUILD
'kin' hate builders... great content, but pretty sure the people who cause these snags don't care about your reveals...
