I've worked all over Europe and nothing compares to the poor build quality of British built modern homes. The building plots are too small, garages are too small for the average car, rooms are to small as for storage space forget it, front gardens are near none existent. Had an annex built because I became disabled, door handles broken, taps broken, shower floods no matter what I do, floor is at a slight gradient so my wheelchair rolls if I'm not sitting in it, door to the outside was left untreated, outdoor handrail is falling off. It's 3 years on and I've got to have so much redone. I don't know the cost but it was very expensive and my father (sparky by trade) was concerned about the ceiling work when they were doing it enough to speak up. And that's when they know a disabled person is moving in, think about the lack of care when they don't even have to meet the incoming residents!
I own a council house from the 1970s iirc. Literally the only work I've done: Remove the water tank in the loft, remove the steel reinforced coal bunker, flashing and a few bricks around the chimney. Zero issues since it was built, all for under £100k.
Used to plan the internet/phone lines to new builds, after giving clear instructions to ground workers on how to install the network it was wrong 90% of the time, nobody takes pride in their work or cares anymore
What happens to these faults you raise? Do the ever get addressed? Is it even possible to address them? For walls that are out of plum do they have to get torn down and rebuilt to fix the issue?
I should not laugh, but my son has been managing projects on his own in and around the home counties for over a year now, and all the years I spent on snagging I would come home frustrated and wanting to kick the dog because grown professional men have had to be led by the hand every step of the way to finish properties/projects to a minimum standard, is now being experienced by my boy. He never believed me how shoddy sub contractors behaved when not properly supervised, and is learning the hard way never to trust others until you have inspected it yourself.
I just bet when the builders are shown these snagging reports - rather than feeling ashamed they will get all defensive and still try to fob off the new house owners with the most amazing crap workmanship.
How are the government eco schemes delivering- my external insulation was a real mess and Im now a bit scared of taking on any more of their schemes (despite being in fuel poverty).
I'm just an aerial installer but I swear I've seen every single one of these in new builds over the years Absolutely shocking how bad of a job they do. I had one row of new build houses, probably around 20, not have the kitchen TV sockets wired properly. Only socket in the house that didn't work, and it was the same socket on each property. Something tells me the site manager got some intern to run around and throw some faceplates on all willy nilly When you got fast turnover like this you get fast problems too!
I'm a scaffolder that works on 99% new build houses. I would never buy one myself or let anyone I know buy a new build. I'm currently on a 80% social housing / 20% private. The private are all selling for over a million. They use the same old crap in them all. You just get more rubbish for your money.
How the hell did the insulation get missed of the whole cavity . I wouldn't have a new build if someone gave it to me for free would loose money putting it right. I bet half of those houses no one knows who's done the work trades come and go on sites daily
Im with you there lets go for Fred champion and steve hoskins construction ,they get in every site because they are cheap the build quality ,well, its completely missing but their k being right in with the councils
only way this shit stops is if they make it illegal to sell any new build house without a well documented just like here snagging inspection and for every fault the buyer gets to reduce the asking price by double of what it would cost to repair each item or wall, then maybe if these pricks wernt making money throwing shit together and calling it a house, they'd go out of business and more reputable companys would triumph and the buyers would have somthing worth their money.
if you are ever in cornwall go to the tesco in truro and walk around. the floor by the tills drops 30 mm in a few meters and was signed off when it was built years ago so nothing new here
House bashers, that's what we call them, the cheapest wins the job or is given by the developer to a friend he knows who in turn creams as much money from the job and pays his men peanuts and sets out strict time parameters. I think most trades that he picked up on want to do a good job but perhaps can't due to the demands placed on them. I wouldn't buy a brand new house unless it was a small private developer that takes pride in his reputation.

same with most people.. but beats working in a shithole warehouse.
NEVR BUY ONE its as simple as that
You probably won't get a look in anyway. They are being paid for by the government with our money and given away to illegals.
@@elliec3736 They're not, what a load of bollocks! Always one racist quoting shite from The Sun..
0:30 that got me lmfaoo wasnt expecting that
Had an annex built because I became disabled, door handles broken, taps broken, shower floods no matter what I do, floor is at a slight gradient so my wheelchair rolls if I'm not sitting in it, door to the outside was left untreated, outdoor handrail is falling off.
4:10 even the door stop looks shocked 😮
What happens to these faults you raise? Do the ever get addressed? Is it even possible to address them? For walls that are out of plum do they have to get torn down and rebuilt to fix the issue?
Exactly what I was wondering.
I believe they produce a report that the home owner hands to the constructor and under the NHBC they have to fix it.
are the sight managers paid off to let these pass or something!?
Site
yes, they are. they get paid bonuses for finishing houses quickly. plus the site managers work for the builders so why would they give a shit?
I should not laugh, but my son has been managing projects on his own in and around the home counties for over a year now, and all the years I spent on snagging I would come home frustrated and wanting to kick the dog because grown professional men have had to be led by the hand every step of the way to finish properties/projects to a minimum standard, is now being experienced by my boy. He never believed me how shoddy sub contractors behaved when not properly supervised, and is learning the hard way never to trust others until you have inspected it yourself.
how old was your son when he started managing?
I come for the housing work, i stay for fhe accent
I just bet when the builders are shown these snagging reports - rather than feeling ashamed they will get all defensive and still try to fob off the new house owners with the most amazing crap workmanship.
How are the government eco schemes delivering- my external insulation was a real mess and Im now a bit scared of taking on any more of their schemes (despite being in fuel poverty).
1 hard hat out of plum and these door handles come off so you can take them to work 🤣
sadly it's almost expected for a new build house to have such issues these days...
Foreign brickies working for minimum wage has pissed of real builders.
I'm just an aerial installer but I swear I've seen every single one of these in new builds over the years
Absolutely shocking how bad of a job they do. I had one row of new build houses, probably around 20, not have the kitchen TV sockets wired properly. Only socket in the house that didn't work, and it was the same socket on each property.
Something tells me the site manager got some intern to run around and throw some faceplates on all willy nilly
When you got fast turnover like this you get fast problems too!
Never seen zone valves under a bath before.
Nothing is made properly anymore.
Even my mid century house is better then these houses that looks like its been built by a bunch of yeehaws
Except Hondas and Toyotas, of course.
Interested to know what deal/agreement you have with Taylor Whimpey?
These houses came to be because people stopped giving a shit about attention to detail.
@@gongagongBad quality housing has nothing to do with immigration. You people are obsessed. Get a life.
i darent look around my 10yr old new build house, roofs fallen off on the front and back, insurance wouldnt cover it. can anyone tell me why not?
How do you avoid buying a place like this?!
Don't buy anything built post-WWII
Just after 1900 up till the 40's will give you great structure and upgrade options.
aaaaaaaghhhh the avarage London rent experience
I've watched so many of these videos that UA-cam is now giving me ads aimed at builders (I'm not a builder)!
I bet half of those houses no one knows who's done the work trades come and go on sites daily
this is what happens when you get subbies who get subbies in to do their subbies work....every day is a 16:59 Friday job
Pls name and shame developers
I would love to see companies named and shamed for this
Im with you there lets go for Fred champion and steve hoskins construction ,they get in every site because they are cheap the build quality ,well, its completely missing but their k being right in with the councils
only way this shit stops is if they make it illegal to sell any new build house without a well documented just like here snagging inspection and for every fault the buyer gets to reduce the asking price by double of what it would cost to repair each item or wall, then maybe if these pricks wernt making money throwing shit together and calling it a house, they'd go out of business and more reputable companys would triumph and the buyers would have somthing worth their money.
They should be made to check every single property the same way car manufacturers do.
totally agree.
What seems to be the problem? “Well… look at it… it’s massively on the wonk!” ☝️😆
Start naming and shaming the bad ones too!
What do these site managers actually do for their salary?
The key is in the title. Whenever you see the word "manager" you know they do nothing.
That floor really was something else. Holy shit
The kickboard cut to match was the icing on that cake.🤣
if you are ever in cornwall go to the tesco in truro and walk around. the floor by the tills drops 30 mm in a few meters and was signed off when it was built years ago so nothing new here
My dad used to say they should leave building to engineers.
Fence is gonna be rorten before long... no gravel boards
500,000 lol thats for the shed where i live
sure is pal
Would not go anywhere near a new build now days
I will stick with my 200 year old house , built properly,
new builds make be violently ill
not joking
